- They decided to bring back The Orville, so we decided to go back to where the journey began and sin the Pilot... and the rest of the crew as well. Here's everything we found wrong with The Orville pilot!

It would be funny if for like the next month or so anytime the narrator tries to skip we hear the error sound and a dejected sigh.
Only thing that would make this channel funny is if Jeremy took it back over
And instead of skipping they have to fast forward!
@@mattstyles2498 then stop watching them until he’s back (if he comes back) lol problem solved. You’re welcome. Spend your time watching things that ARE funny to you.
@@mattstyles2498 what do you mean? That’s clearly Jeremy.
“Happy Arbor Day” was a much better joke than “You got wood.”
For those that know about Arbor Day, yes. But I think it's highly realistic that no one else on his bridge with the exception of his ex wife knew what Arbor Day was.
Oh my God, please do both seasons. This show is an absolute Star Trek love letter and really finds its legs in the back half of the first season
This show as a whole is a lot better than the pilot made it out to be. I'm glad I stuck with it.
Yeah, I honestly can't think of the last time I saw a show where practically every episode was better than the one that came before. And by Season 2 they were regularly making the best Star Trek since DS9.
Although I do wish they'd tone down the Ed-Kelly thing. That's my one big complaint. That subplot just isn't interesting at all.
Its a solid Trek show. Really. I am so ready for the new season.
Yeah the pilot was a bit iffy but the rest was surprisingly good
Me too
In this case the pilot was about the same length as the other season one episodes, and so it did indeed only have 25 minutes of plot advancement; but the portions that introduce the characters is critical to the other episodes.
This show is basically Star Trek fanfiction and Seth MacFarlane has gone on record as saying that he wanted to make this more of a serious sci-fi thing but Fox forced him to shorehorn comedy into it because that's what he's known for.
Now that Hulu has picked this show up it'll be able to be what he actually wants it to be. The trailer for the next season looks like it's going to be a lot less comedy focused, which is a good thing.
All that being said, this show has actually dealt with some very serious issues in very well handled ways. The episode about the all male species going through a legal battle to keep their daughter stands out in particular
I actually enjoyed the humor more than the serious issues it dealt with, since the messages were super heavy handed every time.
@@RBGolbat funny thing is I actually know a few people who for the most part can't stand Seth MacFarlane shows. They say American Dad is better than family guy but overall it's all pretty dumb. His movies included. But this show they like. This is the show that resonated with them. To each their own I say.
Each season the show upped the sci-fi elements & incorporated the comedy into the story’s better.
Those early eps are rough. Much of the comedy fall flat. For me the character Seth MacFarlane plays is the straight men but he kept trying to 1 up the other characters.
As season progresses the comedy was background satire on sci-fi genre & situational. Once Seth stop trying to do tight 5.
Seconding. The Orville treats its audience with respect, handles complex themes well, and its humor isn't bottom tier. I especially love that the crew actually likes each other, they aren't constantly at each others throats and always looking to a single savior character every episode.
@@OversoulGaming I'm one of those people. I don't particularly care for Family Guy or American Dad, and his movies have been mediocre at best. But I absolutely love The Orville.
The krill captain saying “A marriage is work.” is what got me officially hooked to the show.
The Krill helmets aren’t meant to protect them from weapons. The lasers or whatever can usually just go through their helmets/body armor. The helmets protect against direct sunlight, which is deadly to Krill. Once they’re inside the building, the helmets aren’t needed.
Yup; this is one of the many "sins" which got answered in a future season 1 episode.
Neeeeeeeeeeeeerd
Sun dangerous, lasers not dangerous. Got it.
@@ortzinator Actually I think the lasers are TOO dangerous for the helmet to do anything. They probably had personal shields generators or something to block weapons fire. But it's been like 2 years since I watched it so I could be wrong.
@@ortzinator Yes as lasers only dangerous when hit but sun can kill because they will burn up
This show is so slept on. It’s fun, doesn’t take itself too serious. I thought people hated this show 🤣
There is nothing wrong with this show, apart from Halston Sage departure, it is one of the best shows, can't wait for season 3
You are dam right sir
I just finished binge watching season 1 and two last week and I can't believe how heavy Halston's make up was in episode one...
And then all of a sudden I realized she was also in Fox's Prodigal Son.
I think she's going to make an appearance in season 3
@@terranova1203 I hope so, they left because they were in a movie and had scheduling issues so since its been a couple of years maybe we can get her back as a recurring character (Not that I dislike her replacement)
She was also dating Seth at some point. Wouldn't be surprised if there was some unstated uncomfort going on.
The fact that they didn't remove a sin for MacFarlane casting Penny Johnson Jerald who plays Dr. Finn in the Orville, and who was Cassidy Yates on Deep Space 9 is a shame. Also they should have removed a sin for the seat belt joke, as it's poking fun at most of Star Trek for not including seat belts on any of their ships! All in all great video though lol just make sure to remove a sin for when Robert Picardo (the EMH on Voyager) is in an episode and we'll call it even!
I KNEW I KNEW HER FROM SOMEWHERE
There are moments when you can hear Seth's voice go all high pitched and squeaky and giddy and it's weirdly adorable
I really like this show can't wait for season 3!
The Orville. The best Star Trek in a decade and a half. Funny & fun. I love it!
When the parody of Star Trek does a better job of honoring Gene Roddenberry then the current Star Trek series.
The new star trek shows are literally being produced by his son. Stop being ridiculous

KURTZMAN DREK
IS CRAP
Ah, The Orville... More like real Trek than most of the actual Trek these days.
Strange New Worlds has actually been good so far! They might finally have the formula right again!
@@TheBigBenji890 the problem is that it stuff we already seen
What? No... This is some hot garbage. The new Trek is definitely hot garbage as well but this abortion of a show is on another level.
@@MichaelTerndrup So if it's something different it's not real Trek, and if it isn't different it's just more of the same? You would think people would just be happy they're making new shows, and if you don't like the shows don't watch them. I swear, nobody hates Star Trek as much as Star Trek fans.
@@hjspalenka you would think right? But it's easier for people to complain than enjoy something. Like disco season 3 and 4 has David Fing Croenenberg and the majesty that is, the cool collected ardeth bay, freaking Carlos Oliveira from resident evil, not to mention the Warlock Osiris from Destiny, freaking Oded Fehr himself as Admiral Vance. Not to mention how Michael Burnham has one of the most fleshed out stories from being responsible for starting a war and her friends dying, to stopping someone from doing the same thing she did.
So glad they finally got to Orville. There's so many other episodes I'd love to see them sin 😂
Yes
@@MichaelTerndrup Considering they're doing this a week before Season 2 starts, you might get your wish.
@@AraWagoner season 2 already happened
I still thought the whole plan with the time device was going to be patching it into their shields, so they'd have the months to affect repairs they said they needed. To the Krill, it would be like the ship blinked, and was back at full power, weapons hot, and a full volley of torpedoes already being launched at them.
Or, you know, time machine just turns all the Krill to fossils and the ship into a corroded hulk.
And if you're worried about aging your crew you could attach the time device to the robot. Even without moving he could use his increased computational speed to come up with technological advances that win them the whole conflict.
"You're supposed to also be parodying Star Trek, not becoming it"
WROOOONG.
What I like about the Orville is the original marketing really leaned hard on over top comedy & is was like 3 eps in I was like is this just a sci-fi adventure show with some jokes occasionally.
Selling it as a comedy was Fox idea; some of them thought they needed extra comedy to qualify as parody to avoid a copyright infringement suit. Seth wanted sci-fi adventure with some jokes.
Yeah, I actually lost a lot of my interest because I wanted THE OFFICE in space.
This was one my favorite shows cant wait till the new one comes
Thank you for finally getting to one of my favorite sci-fi shows! It was just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. You had me on the floor with ‘holo victories’
Do the rest of the series please!!
I've always had a rather bigger nit to pick with the whole "screaming death of the scientist" scene. She wouldn't have lived long enough to age visibly, let alone a century or so. No food, no water and - oh yes - her heart, which is in charge of supplying oxygen to her brain, is outside the time field. She would have just appeared to die instantly and crumble to dust.
Unless the temporal field is affecting her at a cellular level, so no time is actually passing.
Maybe the device in the lab was just "turned down" pretty low. The most recent use of the device was the demonstration with the banana, and it was only aged a few weeks wasn't it? In that case, maybe what we actually saw was exactly what would happen to a human head over the next couple of weeks after losing its blood supply. Meanwhile her lungs and vocal cords (outside the field) are just doing a somewhat involuntary thing (screaming) because that's the last message they received before her brain went offline.
For a theory I just made up on the fly, I think it's pretty good. However I have no idea about the seed they sent to the Krill ship. I mean, they said it was some genetically engineered super-tree, but how could it do anything without 100 years worth of sunlight, water, soil, and carbon dioxide?
I think we're meant to understand that the time acceleration field is finagling with how things inside the field would continue to progress through time, independent of what's outside the field. For example, one of the uses, IIRC, is growing plants for food, which can't happen with all of the plant's nutrients, water, and sunlight still outside the field. But if the seed were to grow normally over the course of years, and then that timeline collapsed backwards via the field, then the seed would have gotten its nutrition in that alternate timeline, while we see it mature out of nowhere. Same thing with the aging head and all the blood and oxygen it should have had to live to old age.
Wouldn't it be better for the doors to fail closed to seal off that compartment. Last thing you would want is the door to be stuck open if there is a fire or exposure to vacuum and the panel gets damaged.
You didn't sin the fact that it was ROB LOWE that blue himself in that opening scene?
Also, it took me watching the show, giving up on it not being funny enough (I expected a space-based Family Guy), then rewatching it to realize it's not supposed to be a parody of Star Trek. It's supposed to BE Star Trek, but with a touch of workplace sitcom. The show was a bit more enjoyable once I reframed my expectations.
"Sure is sporting of both ships to agree to fight for a big on a single plane instead of taking full advantage of the 360 degrees of maneuverability provided by space."
360 degrees is still only one plane though, so... One sin back? xD
360° means they can rotate in a circle across one plain but ignores the other 2. They can 360 on the x axis for example but get more options in space with the y but more importantly the Z access
3:44 "Why does this place have stairs at all? Stairs should never be allowed in space!"
My dude, there are, like, 50 episodes of Star Trek that would have been resolved in 15 minutes if they had some god dam stairs.
These stairs may be a shitty design for this situation, and they really need a fucking elevator, but don't diss the stairs, it's not their fault! Blame the architect!
5:04 *something about soundproofing the Captain's office*
God dam architects! Sin that bastard!!!
The original series established there's stairs in the emergency crawl ways in a few episodes. What's inexplicable is that they seem to have removed them from the designs by the time The Next Generation.
@@jonnunn4196 They have ladders in the Jeffery's tubes so they can get between levels without the turbo lift. The problem is usually time, those later Enterprise ships are huge.
I feel like while the pilot is still a great episode, it definitely doesn't do this show justice. One of the few shows where the quality increases instead of decreasing with every season, season 2 was fantastic and season 3 looks like it's gonna be a masterpiece.
correction: a plane is defined by 3 points. 3 is the only number that can be described on a plane. it must be 4+ ships to describe a space. so no matter how the three ships are flying the will still be on a (rotating) plane to each other
Honestly I love this show, but the first couple of episodes hadn't found their footing yet and were a bit rough.
3:20 would you describe what a vacuum cleaner does as "sucking"? the vacuum of space works in exactly the same way...low pressure and high pressure areas equalizing.
The vacuum cleaner uses a pump to lower the air presure and create suction. The vacuum is contained and it pulls in the surrounding presurised atmosphere.
In space the vacuum is not a contained volume, the air in the ship is and it is blown out it to space.
Been waiting for this sins video for so long. Hope they do more episodes!
Thank you!! This is great! Star Trek Strange New Worlds next?
11:08 I’m surprised you didn’t do that scene from _Galaxy Quest_ where Loredo screws up taking the ship out of the dock.
We freakin' LOVE this show!!!! Pilots and usually the first few episodes always start out a little rough, but man it definitely gets better each season!!!!
If you're looking for blue aliens try the draags from Fantastic Planet
I'm so happy you are sinning this show. I'm also really glad it's finally coming back
"THIS SHOW BROKE MY SKIP BUTTON!"
I actually loved this show, but that still made me laugh...
Here's to hoping you'll do the whole season
I want to petition CinemaSins to have Aaron continuously say Pew pews because for some reason it's fucking hilarious
Super underrated show. So excited for tomorrow!
glad to see the orville getting some love
I was already watching it 'ironically' (from a Trekkie & techie perspective). Now, I can watch it ironically for the RIGHT reasons. Thank you tvsins.
The pilot is basically a tone experimentation according to the creator. But as the show goes on it continues to improve with each episode.
Just finished seeing all three seasons of this show. It was darn good. Hope they can pull a fourth season.
in its defense it is one of the best star trek shows to come out in a while, its a good show and if your fan of any of the star treks i would say give it at least 3 episodes and see how you feel after that
Yeah! Orville Content! 💪
Why would they need to train a dog to lick itself on command? Have you never seen a dog before? The hard part is getting them NOT to lick themselves. Dogs will literally do that all the time and they don't care who's watching.
This show is absolutely perfect.
I'm so so happy you sinned this! More please!
Also, nicely timed with s3's premiere in several days! Nicely played.
Thank you for doing this series.
Gotta sin blowing up automatic door controllers one way or another, it seems.
Continue this!
Loved the Orville.
8:26 thank you for saying this. It is my biggest pet peeve that in space all battles are 2 dimensional for some reason.
Please do Everything Wrong With Alias, “Truth Be Told.” I don’t want the whole series. I just want the pilot. It’s available on Disney+, Hulu, & Prime Video.
I'll admit season 1 was a chore but they were finding their way
Season 2 is way better
Still the best Star Trek offering in the last 10 years.
Whoa... a show I've seen! This is crazy. I ... I don't know what to do now.
7:43 Lego Benny would be proud of you 👍
SPACESHIP!!
The only people on television with peripheral vision are the people missing an eye. Then they can see everything happening around them, even on the side they can't see.
7:30 the head is aging different than the rest of the body. meaning the blood is as well.
she's got 20 seconds in the field before the lack of oxygen in the blood kills her.
This was hillarious! Please do the rest of the orville next!
Please?
Pretty please?
Pretty please with cream and sprinkles on top?
Tbh, the first season of The Orville was the best season of Star Trek in a long time
Sin this show all you want, but after _Enterprise,_ this is the _true_ successor to the Star Trek lineage.
I admit I liked the early Orville much better than the later seasons because it leaned out of the comedy when that was what I was here for.
Technically wouldn't their field of fire/maneuverability be half a sphere, not "360⁰"?
The circumference of the celestial sphere is 360 degrees. So its “radius” is 360/2pi = 57.29 degrees. This is purely a notional quantity. The area of a sphere is 4pi r^2 = 4 pi (180/pi)^2 = 41,253 square degrees.
So, half that. Not bothering with the calculator, I should already sin that twice for making me Google. 🛎️
No need to train a dog to do something, that can be accomplished with peanut butter.
It was also likely a video loop.
Do more on The Orville!!!! It's great
I watched most of season 1 of the show hoping it would be good. There were some highlights but the level and amount of humor was borderline insulting
That said, much of it is WAY more clever than it's been given credit for ... esp. S1, E7
Seth is a huge fan of Star Trek and after watching the Orville I wish he was asked to direct the newer Star Trek shows
The best star trek made since enterprise
Two problems with this show:
1. How it was advertised. Watching the original ads for this show made me want to skip it.
2. This show ended after two seasons. It was and is really, really good.
It was renewed for a 3rd season for Hulu.
@@miahthorpatrick1013 Well that just made my week!
@@WonderWolf13
Same!
Def missing an "Adrianne Palicki is not my girlfriend in this scene".
Here are all the audio outtake clips at the end:
1 (10:48): Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Paramount Pictures, 1979)
2 (10:54): Battlestar Galactica (Part 2; Syfy, 9th December 2003)
3 (10:59): Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Code of Honor" (season 1, episode 4; 12th October 1987)
4 (11:08): Star Trek (Paramount Pictures, 2009)
5 (11:20): Family Guy, "McStroke" (season 6, episode 8; Fox, 13th January 2008)
6 (11:26): Star Wars (20th Century Studios, 1977)
7 (11:30): family Guy, "Death Has a Shadow" (season 1, episode 1; Fox, 31st January 1999)
8 (11:32): Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Paramount Pictures, 1991)
I felt bad about dropping off of watching this show like halfway through the season, but, seeing how much got skipped... I'm kinda fine with it now lol
Don’t forget shooting a control panel for a door results in whatever is required at the time even a door open and then the shut lock from the same shot. What would they do in modern times a keyhole probably wouldn’t lock after being blasted
Please keep doing this
The show gets much better after it stops trying to be what MacFarlane was forced to market it as. He wanted to make a science fiction show, but he couldn't get the show without marketing it as "family guy, but live-action and in space". About midway through Season One, the show seems to round a corner, and gets much better. The premiere of Season Three (available now on Hulu) is a fantastic, serious look at psychology and behavior in the aftermath of serious trauma, with an occasional humorous moment.
The Orville predicted the "pet doing something embarrassing in the background" cliché before the Pandemic made it common.
I really don't care about this series I try to watch it and it got really born fast
You need to start doing TV Sins on older cartoons, like Chip N Dale - Rescue Rangers, because you'll find a lot of things to sin.
I don’t think it’s fair to sin this show for flat out turning into Star Trek - Seth Macfarlane can’t help himself!
Looking forward to June 2nd. 🚀
What, no 'Red thingie heading for green thingie' from Galaxy Quest?
Or any Galaxy Quest outtakes?
Finnaly. Love the orville
Where did all the mass come from when the seed became a huge tree? When a tree grows normally it pulls all that material from the soil. WHERE DID THE MASS COME FROM???
I just started ot watch it... almost through season 2...
THE SHOW BROKE MY SKIP BUTTON!!
*Failing to make even ONE "Galaxy Quest" reference* DING!!
it is completely appropriate to ask someone their age in the event they look like they might be too young for the situation in question. You get carded when you go to a bar if there is any doubt that you're 21 or older and you better be sure someone trying to date you is at least 18. There are other situations where underaged people try doing something they're legally not allowed to do yet. People need to stop acting like your age is some private thing. It would be included with your name.
Best scifi show on TV.
When I saw the trailer for this back in 2017 while on holiday in America I thought this was a comedy not a drama. They were promoting it as though it was a comedy, a parody of Star Trek.
Do more of these please.
Been waiting for this one 😁
So, did you guys deteriorated to the point where you ignore what the show is actually like and just project what you want it to be on it?
"Go away with this character development and thinking and talking about stuff. Seth McFarland is in this so became Airplane! style parody now!"
I mean...the fax machine & wiffle ball are both inventions that aren't really easy to use as a weapon.
To be fair, Season 1 of most shows isn't very fantastic. Orville definitely improves over S1 and even more in S2.
Oh yeah!
