Zion Subway Hike, Bottom Up (Utah)

One of Zion National Park's gems - the undercut slot canyon feature called 'The Subway'. This hike is as off-the-beaten path as it gets in Zion with two approaches that each have their unique challenges. Getting a permit is the first challenge, followed by specialized equipment for walking in freezing water. Lastly is the 6-8 hours of route-finding along a canyon river which can get insanely hot in the summer.

I assume you passed through the first drop, pretty steep and slippery, into the floor of the canyon. I see you did not even carry a stick. How hard was that portion going in and coming out ?

It is a steep canyon, but the trail switchbacks down the hillside, and the grade is never too steep

Do you have to go through the high level water or can you just turn back ?
