Well, legally she can't actually stop him from seeing his son. Even with what he did, the worst the courts may do is have him do parenting classes and therapy, but they won't just give her full custody. She would have to prove him a danger to their son, even after therapy and classes. Unlike the past, courts now try to keep fathers involved in their child's life. Also, if she denies him his visitations at all (unless there is a very valid excuse) or tries to alienate their son against him, he will have a case against HER that could get him more custody than she wants.

Husband and In-Laws could have visitation rights, with husband needing supervision visits. And court issued a restraining order against SIL, so that he'll and others, would hopefully think twice before getting ideas about bringing him over to visit auntie.

I’m only 13 minutes in and question the sanity of OP and Her husband allowing the sister in law to baby sit. She was committed to a mental institution, involved in a very domestically violent relationship with another mental ill person and clearly wasn’t in her right state of mine when arriving at their house.

I feel bad for the kid. I know how he feels. My family members used to tell me extremely elaborate lies and then severely gaslight me when i pointed out inconsistencies. They would actually group up and support each others lies or worse say I made up the lie and then chastise me for it when it was a lie other family members didn’t like. It got to the point that I doubted myself so much I had a reputation at school for being gullible and I was bullied for it. When believing the lies had negative consequences my family members would tell me it was my fault or even laugh at me for being stupid or punish me got it if someone got their feelings hurt for it. I don’t talk to 80% of my family as an adult because they are so prideful and unhinged. I’m glad OP was smart enough to pull her son out of this situation. It got to the point that I doubted myself so much I had a reputation at school for being gullible and I was bullied for it. When believing the lies had negative consequences my family members would tell me it was my fault or even laugh at me for being stupid or punish me got it if someone got their feelings hurt for it. I get these are fake 99% of the time but I genuinely had a similar situation as the 'tom'. It's traumatic. The custody battle, the psychologists, the eventual addiction... There's some family you need to keep away from kids. If I'm ever blessed enough to have a family and children, there are family members they will never meet.
