Firstly, everywhere on the grass is solid OOB, meaning that driving on the very edge of it is required to prevent Lakitu from placing you back on the track. This means that the actual drivable area of the grass surrounding the track is deceptively limited.
Secondly, no this is not useful for TASes in any way.
My main motivation behind this was that I thought it would be quite funny to be in the cow pen to the right of the track. It was
Clipping through the fence is complete garbage and essentially requires bruteforcing since there's no visual indication to tell you if you're close or not. Bottom 3 TASing experience oat.
Initial OOB navigation was pretty simple apart from a few tight corners, but the real difficulty came with the wallclip to cross from the fence to the edge of the OOB seam. I tried this for a while with no success and eventually ended up leaving the ghost with no intention of returning to it.
spoiler alert i DID return to it and got a tiny bit closer to the point where it seemed somewhat plausible. Then epik came in clutch and did it in like 5 minutes or something because he is a wizard.
OOB navigation from there on out is fairly calm, apart from a few weirdly angled slopes that make traversing it slightly awkward at times (this is also why 2 shrooms are required at 2:01)
While it is theoretically possible to drive across the entire perimeter of the OOB, the game's ghost input limit prevented me from doing this (I'm pretty sure it's impossible to bypass this, correct me if I'm wrong).
