For sure the best way to do it. Is much more simple and faster. Also you do not mess up with the sender unit either you need a special key to open the sender hatch as the 90% of videos show. Many thanks for this video!!
I ordered the set and just installed it. I used the nut and put it over the pipe with a pipe wrench. The rubber seal closes it off, therefore i dont need to glue it. It is sealed off already. Great video, that helped me do it, never thought about putting it in the air hose! haha, Thanks
I just fitted mine. I flatten top with a file so o ring can seal. I cut 20mm off the breather pipe. I drilled out to 5.5mm then screwed in the stand pipe. I then put a thick o ring and a copper washer onto the thread. I then slid a long 10mm socket down and tightened it with a pair of pliers. I have air tight seal inside and on top. I am not going to use epoxy unless I have to. I think the two o rings will do the trick. I also fitted non return valve at the stand pipe outlet.
Im also looking for a solution for fitting the stand pipe. Does your solution affect the breather pipe functioning properly? I can imagine the file will help but why cut the breather tube at all?
@@alanmorris9598 how else can you reach the standpipe nut deep inside the breather tube? The only way I could was with the longest deep socket and by trimming about 12mm off the end of the breather pipe. The o rings are well beyond that so sealing is not affected.
For the final step..... Insert the breather. Then the standpipe, but don't screw it down. Apply Epoxy to the thread of the standpipe, *then* screw it in. This will ensure a good seal all around the breather as it squeezes the glue out of the thread. (Much less mess!) . Only then insert the rubber pipe.
Great idea, but I noticed a few things that I for safety definetely would have done different. First of all, NEVER take off the plus from the battery before the minus. One mishap with the tool and you have a nice spark that could make the battery explode if you are unlucky. Secondly I would clean the area around the breather pipe BEFORE removing it to avoid dirt falling into the hole.
You can buy this one: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403776540469?hash=item5e02f50f35:g:qc0AAOSwr91i0SA3&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8HGiwLCWqUfhYD58HoklVdDH1RLcUK9lbwrhrOz3rgRP2fvXJ2dR6N95KDJALfAdafhSgTgH%2BB9%2FWRc6FWioCzSF3aGRn%2FS2As7aln5QZQhvacaPPgBtQGuNd16wG13aOGTXvpQEyZJEHD%2BZ7Lvn8jONp1%2FIbXfDWNe6iKqqGS1THWlpG4PHxO%2B5VEGZE86aqdArUQE1DKeefTh4RtEcbTZbIsdem9sZfWTSHSJPhOk3ONRA%2FkmgFPAWpHLcCg8XM7mapdT6Zd7IF7I84NW6b8l8TKnzhvMqI90LwF6rBo98oKetXOFoqRxNzoozHPZ9ZA%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM5uKxlPZg
With this mounting method, make sure that the tube in the diesel pump does not touch the float. From my own experience: because of this, the float got stuck and did not indicate the correct tank content. Result: stranded with an empty diesel tank.
Thanks for this. I have the same van, i would be interested to see where you have routed the fuel line, put the pump and where is the heater if thats possible?
Hello. Great idea! I like your video. Did you have any tank pressure loss / problems leaking around the hole you made for stand pipe? (A nut on the inside would help to make a better air tight seal????
Hi Garry, thanks for the appreciation, so far i did not encounter any issues, and i am using the heater on daily bases. No tank pressure loss, when i open the tank for refill i can hear the pressure coming out, no leaks, because the glue that i used creates an air tight seal. The initial plan was indeed to put a nut inside, but that proved to be very difficult with the tools that i have so i just used the glue, and as i said, no issues so far. But feel free to put a nut inside if you have the possibility, as it would definitely help. Have a great day!
Just as a precaution measure. To be sure that i don’t try to start the engine, or activate the fuel pump, or produce any sparks while i am working with fuel.
Looks like I'll be doing this on my new Iveco Daily.. I don't know why they don't all just have blanked off auxillary outlets like on the top of Sprinter pumps.
I've just discovered this hack as well. I have a 2016 Iveco Daily. How much space do you have above your tank? I have an insulated box so I reckon 5 inches of clearance. I could take the elbow off, modify on it's own then reinstall the elbow. How long was your pipe?
@@astronomenov99 about 5" the same and your dead right, the easiest way is to secure the dip tube on the workbench. You can get the elbows pretty cheaply from Iveco if you want to have one modified and ready for when you take the original one off.

Thank you for your video - very interesting! Do you think the plastic of the breather hose is thick enough to permanently act as a thread for the extraction pipe? Given the vibration of the car when driving? Maybe better to fasten with selflocking nut on the inside?
Thank you! I think the selflocking nut would be an extra security point. I also used locktite glue to fix the pipe to the breather. Only time will tell if the breather plastic is strong enough.
Thank you! I just did the mod in about one hour! Unfortunately I was not able to use a nut from the inside because I could nut reach far enough with my tools to hold the nut while fastening from the other side. So I did the same like you, with the exception that I used a thread cutter to make the thread. Yes only time will tell but I think we should be fine...Fingers crossed!😜 Thank you very much for your video again... I think you saved me many hours of work!
What about if I install this and connect it to the pump but not install the heater? Surely diesel shouldn't bypass the pump (which I'll leave the red cap on)
Hi there I've purchased the standpipe from the link you sent..thanks 👍...is there any reduced draw up to the heater as its narrower pipe..did the heater manufacturer confirm this was ok? Thanks
Hi, when i inserted the pipe for testing it went all the way down to the bottom of the tank, which makes me think that the fuel float is not directly under it. I drove the van more than 2500 miles, filled the tank several times, and no issues so far. Fuel gauge indicates correctly. I use the heater every night, and had no issues with it either. Also. I am not a mechanic or a professional van converter, video is just showing what i did, it is not a how to video, as it is mentioned in the disclaimer at the beginning of the video, so if you have any concerns, please ask a qualified mechanic or engineer, before attempting to do any work on your vehicle. Thank you!
Hello i am doing the same thing on a Fiat Ducato and i would like to know if the stand pipe is going strait down or do you give an angle foward to avoid all the sender unit system. Thank you .
If you put the pipe through the breather as i did in the video, the stand pipe is going straight. It doesn’t touch anything. Don’t forget to cut the stand pipe a little shorter so it doesn’t reach the bottom of the tank.
It should not be glued in, i struggled a bit to get it out, but maybe in your case somebody glued it in for some reason. In this case you could unscrew the entire unit, (although the method i presented is to avoid doing that), but i only recommend doing that if you know what you are doing and are confident enough to do it. Otherwise, ask a mechanic to do it for you.
@@agoravan Thanks for the reply! I did manage to pull it out with great effort. Now I'm stuck on how to get the fuel line to the fuel pump from there :p
@ShadowV if you watch the video again, you will see that i routed the blue hose under the van. My fuel filter and the pump sit under the van. And from the pump there is the clear hose that travels under the van until it reaches the point where my heater is located ( in my case it is in the middle of the van) and i drilled a hole and routed the hose back in to the van and connected it to the heater.
