Let's hope that weed-cutting boat gets some use this season. I rented twice in 2013 and 2015 and both times we weren't allowed in Lecarrow due to weed. Hoping to visit there in a few weeks.

That's a shame Doug, I know any canal can get a bit weedy but so long as you check the weed trap on the engine raw water intake doesnt get blocked you would have no issues. And it is a really idilic mooring and so peaceful. I hope you get to visit it in the future.

Well, I have my own boat now, so I'll take the risk! My experience is the hire companies don't teach their renters to check the traps, which may have something to do with their reluctance.

You're probably right. Hope you'll get the chance to visit it soon in your boat, and make sure to have a Guinness in Coffey's while your there 😃

Love your videos! Do you ever navigate from inside? You looked so cold!

Hi AM, Thanks for your comment, the weather has to be very bad before I'll head inside. Even when we sailed to France I stayed outside round the clock! The visibility inside is really not good.

lecarrow brings back memories, hail storm on lough ree in 2008 cruising down too athlone, very sunny that day until 30 minutes into the cruise from lanesbouroug, the mother was my myself and the girlfriend, my mother was pale, stuff was flying everywhere, strong westerly wind , took shelter in there. oddly the boat i rented was called lecarrow. i opt for wider beam now. is that gerry adams moonlighting as coastguard

That's the thing about Lecarrow, most people discover it when they need a safe harbour to shelter in. Then they dont want to leave! Ye of course thats gerry moonlighting, you'd never know where that lad would show up!

Another 4 seasons in one weather. A peaceful village a few metres away from Lough Ree. Is the canal that leads from Lough Ree and takes you to Lecarrow village suitable for two boats passing each other? It looks like in summer time this canal could be quite busy.

Ah can two boats pass in this canal? For the most part you will see an approaching boat in plenty time and be able to pass without any great difficulty although you do need to be careful and go slowly. If you meet a boat on one of the two blind bends well that's another matter! lets say luck can often play a part, be it good luck or maybe bad luck!
I've never actually bumped another boat here but I have come close.
