The way things are constantly being remade. Someone like Sabrina Carpenter should just do a cover and maybe that would bring attention to the attention. Yes get the pretty white girl to do.

It's a shame because the industry pushes out people like Cardi, Nicki, Iggy etc that makes girls want to look like them. This song here if people took it in the way they take in those other artists would open a lot of peoples eyes.
Not as big as they should have? Lol TLC have 4 #1 singles (including this one), 4 successful albums, 4 Grammy Awards among a plethora of others etc. How much more did they need to accomplish to be considered "big"?
Their songs are great. Always a message in it. They are sexy without even trying, beautiful even without makeup. Glad to have TH-cam to relive those beautiful days

1999 was honestly one the best years for pop music. TLC, Backstreet Boyz, Brian Mcnight, Britney Spears, Mariah, Whitney, Lauryn Hill, Shania Twain, Christina Aguilera, Brandy, JLO, Monica, Ricky Martin etc
I agree, BOTH of them were SO BEAUTIFUL inside AND out! They're now making beautiful music, collab-ing for us, TOGETHER in the heavens 🎶💖🎶 Thank you both for sharing your talents with us during your short time here on this plain! RIP Lisa & Aaliyah!

its her opinion why should she get over it, The 90's had the best music , theres very few artist today that are even worth listening to. #BRINGBACKTHE90SMUSIC
T-Boz helped write this song. It was a poem she wrote while in the hospital. After seeing a episode of Ricky Lake where the men were referring to woman as "fat pigs" and other disgusting things. Gave the poem to their producer Dallas to turn into a song. I love this song. I grew up with TLC being my favorite songs to listen to. I loved them. T-boz and her unique low, sultry voice, Left Eye and her adorableness, and Chilli with the ability to look sexy no matter what she wore or did. Way more to them than that obviously. Left Eye was an amazing person. So much more to her than I ever knew. i watched a documentary called "The Last Days of Left Eye" it's tons of self recorded type videos, edited to make a documentary. She had an incredible mind and soul. I highly recommend watching it. It changed my life.
And they called broke men Scrubs, I guess it's OK for them to insult men but they come running to the defense of women cuz of a daytime talk show designed to provoke anger from the audience to get them to watch
@@adonaiministriesewg8849comparing a female to another female isn’t telling them the truth. Telling someone they need bigger boobs is your opinion, not truth. You and the 6 ppl who agreed with this comment are delusional if you think either of those things are being honest.
honestly i don't think this song got enough credit. It touched bases on on some pretty deep issues that women go through. Especially with what is deemed as beautiful socially more acceptable in society of appearances and why young girls develop eating disorders.
I mean it was a #1 song and it got major props back then. I feel like TLC has been out of the spotlight for some time, so a lot of the new generation doesn't know about them. Still, singers like Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga both said that this song and TLC in general inspired them to start singing and performing.
It was also nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammys (but lost to Carlos Santana who tied Michael Jackson's record for Grammy wins in one year). But, yeah, not enough credit compared to their other hits.
This song was released in a time where there wasn’t social media telling everyone that they are “less than” or you need a BBL and lip fillers to look perfect…ahead of their time and very relevant for the current time, TLC is timeless ❤️
Absolutely. They made songs about safe sex, the risk of hiv, loving yourself, and living too fast. These other ladies sing about having sex for money....
I think around this time in 1999 plastic surgery was becoming more common for younger girls. And super skinny models were in. Twenty years later and the trend seems to be returning, sadly.
@MB Exactly, I'm a guy and even I know women are held to a higher standard of beauty by society than men. Back in 2015, The Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart did an excellent segment satirizing the "Dad Bod" trend that was going around: th-cam.com/video/XRcrHP4xmlg/w-d-xo.html
@@chloedassler6156 Don't say that. That's why a lot of our struggles gets dismissed because we're perceived as "strong black women", we have our flaws and weaknesses just like every other race. A lot of us can't handle it and go through a lot of mental health issues because of it.

@Teveon Gant ok so that is your opinion on what the video means, thats all you had to say,I thought ,maybe TLC stated the meaning in an interview, thats why I asked for a source.
Teveon Gant Lmao hmmm,I don't remember ever saying that but okay 👌 just simply stating that what you had said is your opinion. Most people who get these procedures are usually insecure about themselves, why else would you get it?This is my opinion: This song isn't about embracing a fake body lol 😂 it's about embracing who you NATURALLY are and not allowing these "BEAUTY STANDARDS" or anyone else change you. I mean Chilli did run out of that hospital after seeing that 12 year old who was crying just before she went under the knife.
I'm a 46 year old father of 2 from Kerala, India. TLC'c 1994 album CRAZY SEXY COOL is still one of my all time favourite albums forever. I was just a 18 year old boy then. I still listen to the album almost every week ❤️🙏

I 💖 TLC I'm an 90s kid this song Unpretty came out when I was 7 years old Left Eye Died closed to my 10th birthday . I grew up listening to TLC, my mom was an teen mom when she have me & she's an TLC fan , some of my cousins love TLC
This song got me through school as I was bullied for my weight but this song helped me accept myself so I thank TLC for showing me that being the size you are is not something to be ashamed of.
TLC was truly ahead of their time with both the lyrics and the visuals of Unpretty. I now see this song as a powerful, personal letter to social media. Rewatching the video after so long moved me to tears. Its message feels even more relevant today, capturing the struggle between self-worth and the pressure of impossible beauty standards pushed by social media. The line “Never insecure until I met you” perfectly reflects the alarming insecurities social media creates. It’s a reminder of how platforms designed for connection often leave us questioning our worth, feeding comparisons and unrealistic standards that didn’t exist before. The second verse, especially “get rid of you and get back to me,” hit me deeply-it mirrors how much better and more connected to self I’ve felt since leaving social media and rediscovering myself. And Chili kicking that guy’s ass at the end? That’s me kicking social media out of my life! 😂 Phenomenal self love song.❤ I deeply miss this era but I am so grateful I got to experience it in real time. 🥹💖
I'm an 18 year old girl who has low self-esteem and insecure to my apperance,When i first heard this i realized that you must love yourself and don't be afraid to be unique. #TLC💙💙
I wish I had heard this song when I was a teen at 18. I weighed 99 lbs and had a tiny chest. I always felt so insecure. I should have appreciated my body like it was. Everyone should feel good about their bodies.
I wish I had understood at 18 what I do now. People will try to mold you to be what they want you to be, and it's never worth it. You are the only one living in your body, and you are the one who has to like it.. You and Only You.
Yes embrace you but being a teen is hard time in a person's life hopefully as u start to branch out n find your way in life u will see yourself better i think many teen girls have that same issue cause u constantly are around plenty of other young girls that u sit n compare yourself too where as when u hit the real world u won't have as much time to do that hang in there
ano because loads of artists have sign language in their videos .....Jesus one of the only videos that I have seen who signs ....always a negative comment ...just appreciate how amazing the message is here 🙏
yeah, I thought the same thing! I think we were just really young, and more into the music, than to the whole presentation, and maybe now we have more experience and knowledge.
the day I turned the TV on MTV or vh1 an saw this I just starred into the tv really liked this song but it had meaning behind it made me think what are some of these ppl at my school goin thru 20yrs ago it was life changing for me a memory ill have forever plus my mom was cleaning the house clear blue sky with all windows open great day Of very few memories
Sadly this song is even *MORE* relevant with all the Instagrams and Tik Toks now. Not only is society even more superficial than before it has normalized the superficiality and turned it into a legit career. Really sad
And to think our generation gave Britney Spears a hard time... when Gen Z hits their 30's how much worse will they be kicking themselves for falling into vanity traps?
So very true! There is so much "fakeness" in the world today, all for the sake of trying to impress everybody around. So much obsession with vanity. At the end of the day the only people out there that are worth changing yourself for are the people who would never ask you to do it because they love you and appreciate you for who you are.
It was insane, how versatile in sound & style this group was. From Hip Hop, to jazz, to pop, to this track here that really shocked a lot of us in incorporating a bit of rock to an R&B sound. TLC had no limits when it came to creativity in music, style, & message. Even with Left Eye's passing they STILL carry on her memory in performances to this day. That's love & loyalty right there, a true girl group of friendship & family.
Did you end up getting any of those biddies? Maybe some lipo now that you're in your late 40s? Treat yourself girl. You don't have to look how you feel.
I know!!! I find myself tearing up because I got bullied for being skinny. I was just into aerobics a lot and the girls on my dance squad had body issues, but took it out on others instead of looking inside to find their own pretty. It took me a while but I found my inner beauty and this sing slaps because it helped me so much❤️
Wow I came across this today and it takes me back to when I didn't understand so much. Today I'm 40 living with body dismorphia, depression and anxiety. This was ahead of its time for sure and is more relevant today than ever 😭 I loved TLC

This song helped me so much when it came out. I listen to it every now and then when I’m feeling insecure about myself. It reminds me that I’m alright the way I am. I was devastated when Lisa was killed in that accident. This was one of my favorite groups when I was a teenager. Thank you TLC for reminding me that I don’t need outsiders to tell me that I’m beautiful and that I don’t need no scrubs.
This song is very special to me, it's during a time in my life that I was feeling really horrible & very scared‼️ It was dedicated to me from my daughter when I beat cancer, but the loss of hair, weight loss & overall changes to my body were a little to much for me to take in😢. I cried when I read your comment. I'm fighting diabetes, and everything that comes with it. I was very unhappy for a long time, and I started eating. Totally agree with you
Lefteye was truly an angel on earth
TLC was so ahead of time it sucks when I see talent like this not be as big as they should have.
It's a shame because the industry pushes out people like Cardi, Nicki, Iggy etc that makes girls want to look like them. This song here if people took it in the way they take in those other artists would open a lot of peoples eyes.
They were the biggest musical act 20 years ago
What? They’re one of the the best selling female groups of all time
They look pretty damn big to me 😂🤣😂🤣
Not as big as they should have? Lol TLC have 4 #1 singles (including this one), 4 successful albums, 4 Grammy Awards among a plethora of others etc. How much more did they need to accomplish to be considered "big"?
it's 2021 and i'm 29 and i barely just realized how deep this song is. and timeless. holy shit tlc.
Their songs are great. Always a message in it. They are sexy without even trying, beautiful even without makeup.
Glad to have TH-cam to relive those beautiful days
Deep? Three very attractive girls belting on about what it is like for unpretty girls. Same as that Markle twat talking about women struggling to get jobs. Its smug and phoney
I'm 26 now and this was my favorite song back in the day made me feel better knowing most people have insecurities even the most beautiful looking ones and that I wasn't going through it alone
this song needs to be re-released considering the way today's kids have body image isues

They recorded a new song for their upcoming record called "Perfect Girl". It should pick up right where this one left off.

It changed my life.

honestly i don't think this song got enough credit.
But, yeah, not enough credit compared to their other hits.
dakota barnes It got enough credit when it was out.
dakota barnes I Agree
It's not just girls. Why do you think guys are packed into gyms trying to look the way they are made to believe they need to to not be lonely.

My favorite part of this whole video is Left Eye doing sign language 🙌🏾
I just thought she was doing her moves for the video clip...

Left eye's relativity to the song is superb. Sign language. That lady was exceptional. Brilliant. Pure intelligence.
I'ma grown ass man and this makes me cry. I feel so bad for women. Especially black women.
It's hard on planet.
Dont't feel too bad for us, we are tough, we can handle it 😉
Men and women have to deal with this today. Blame social media.
@MB Exactly, I'm a guy and even I know women are held to a higher standard of beauty by society than men.

@@chloedassler6156 Don't say that. That's why a lot of our struggles gets dismissed because we're perceived as "strong black women", we have our flaws and weaknesses just like every other race. A lot of us can't handle it and go through a lot of mental health issues because of it.

@Teveon Gant Her point was girls don't need too do what they do on instagram for clout.
@Teveon Gant Source?
@Teveon Gant ok so that is your opinion on what the video means, thats all you had to say,I thought ,maybe TLC stated the meaning in an interview, thats why I asked for a source.
Teveon Gant hmm..yeah.. that's definitely your opinion.
Today's society and generation of kids need to listen to this song and watch this video.

Phenomenal self love song.❤ I deeply miss this era but I am so grateful I got to experience it in real time. 🥹💖

You're beautiful! Embrace your youth!!

At the end of the day the only people out there that are worth changing yourself for are the people who would never ask you to do it because they love you and appreciate you for who you are.
yuh
Couldn’t agree more!
They used the Rock/R&B style first with Red Light Special
Thought they broke up after left eye's passing
"At the end of the day I'm just tripping" = self accountability. The liberals controlling media can't have any of that

I know!!! I find myself tearing up because I got bullied for being skinny. It took me a while but I found my inner beauty and this sing slaps because it helped me so much❤️
