    ABOUT US:
    Welcome to our crazy life. We took a leap of faith in 2020, and uprooted our two horse-crazy girls from their life in the city and traded it in for life on a farm. We now live on a hobby farm in Ontario (Canada) with our horses, registered Nigerian Dwarf goat herd, chickens and fowl, bunnies, a livestock guardian dog and house dogs. Follow our journey and life on the farm as we vlog our daily lives with our animals, and our girls' riding journey.

      Glad you found value in it ❤️. Kate’s coach will be a huge help in bringing her up correctly. I am excited to see where these two are in their riding by the end of the year. Kate will also still be riding Stevie (for jumping), until Luna is ready.

    Luna is exactly where you'd expect her to be at her age and experience level. What a chance to bring her along in a sensitive horse driven manner and build a beautiful bond and trusting relationship. Don't worry about a thing and things will work out as long as you proceed with the horse first in everything you do, which of course you really do. Congratulations and good luck with this amazing and exciting adventure!

      Thanks. I love watching our girls and horses develop in their riding abilities and education. Kate has completely immersed herself in furthering her equine knowledge with the intent of working in the industry, and so with the direction of her coach, trainers, and the knowledge she is gaining from her other pursuits, I am excited to watch these two develop as a team and see where they go.

      Thanks. Yes, we are fortunate to have his experience and knowledge for helping Kate develop Luna and bring her up correctly, building on the strong foundation the professional trainer gave her this summer. How old is your Luna? What breed is she?

      Yes, he’s phenomenal. We saw him teach a clinic 2 years ago and were hooked. It is impossible to get in with him though because he is in such high demand and will only teach private lessons so he can dedicate his full attention to one rider. It is really hard to get in anywhere around us because there is such a shortage of lesson barns and coaches since Covid closures forced many out of business. When we recently heard one student was taking a break over winter and their spot opened up, we grabbed it as well so Julia can now go weekly!

      Thanks, you as well! Kate is loving university so far and is doing really well. She is in a 5 year co-op program, so she has to maintain good grades to stay in the program. She is working hard, and we are so proud of her. I hope your year is off to a good start 😊.

      I know… it’s hard to believe she is the same baby that used to want to fall asleep in Kate’s lap 🥰.
      Yes, “Slow and steady wins the race” definitely holds true for training babies. She is such a smart girl and picks things up so fast, but the overall process can’t be rushed if you want to give them a really strong foundation and set them up for success. How old is Forte? What breed?

    Congratulations on the new horse, I bought a 3.5 year old that is now turning 6 and she also has been through some saddles. I look back on my journey training her and it has been a fun experience, she is on my channel. She was also started by a reining trainer then went to a hunter barn to be sold where my trainer bought her off of videos for me. Time will fly and the baby moments horses have become less and less but take your time and enjoy the ride along the way. Best wishes.

      Thanks. Luna was actually born on our farm, but she has now become Kate’s new future show horse. Nothing rattles Kate when it comes to horses, and she is able to stay calm in the baby moments, which is good. She is excited to bring Luna up with the help of trainers and coaches. She intends on working in the equine industry, so loves any opportunity she can learn new skills. That sounds so exciting for you and your horse. Good luck with your journey as well! 🥰

    I could not see how kate did when luna did'nt wanted to go in, but next time it could be better that she turn the horse to the other side so she can't see that freeky door going up😅.
    When this was her jumping teacher, why they did'nt put at least some pools on the ground, to see how she react.
    And luna was'nt protecting kate , but she was scared by that bird😅 and that's normal, she's very young. I don't know if she rode her before, but i think it could be better first to start with groundwork, at the hand working, travers and maybe shoulder in and out, to make her stronger and have more balance. Kate is doing great on this young horse.😍

    • @BarnBootsandCountryRoots
      @BarnBootsandCountryRoots  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Not to worry, I know she wasn’t protecting Kate, I was just joking 🤣. Good suggestions. Luna has actually done lots of ground work since she was born with exposures and has already walked through pools, over tarps, etc. She was boarded and trained by a professional for almost a year when she was a yearling for training on appropriate ground manners and exposures. Kate volunteered there as well, so she could build her knowledge and experience training and working with high level competition horses (Grand Prix / Olympic level horses). This summer, we boarded Luna again because the vet cleared her to be started under saddle based on her development. The first 1-2 months was daily training from the ground only, and after that the trainer backed her). Kate has ridden Luna a few times, but this was her first lesson with her coach, and Luna’s first time riding after several months of sitting in the field because she outgrew her saddle and it took us time to find one that fit her properly. Luna is just at the start of her riding journey, so still lots to learn, and I’m sure there will be many baby moments, but with the knowledgeable direction and help of her coach, Kate is learning how to continue her training and development. We are excited to see where these two end up 🥰

      @@BarnBootsandCountryRoots i don't know if there are many brands of saddles, also their quality, but i could see there are also saddles from brand Stubben. They seems to be very good saddles, although, at least in the netherlands and belgium you have to wait 3 months for a new saddle from that brand, so sometimes that saddle don't fit like it has to be. But i'm sure there will be good other brands in canada. Of course west europe has more brands because there is a real horse industry. A smaal country like the netherlands has 600K riders and only 500K sporthorses. They have 7300 competitions each year. I follow on insta and TH-cam riders who go compete almost every weekend with their horse and even sometimes with 4 to 8 horses a day. But mostly they have only 2 horses.
      And most people have only fun with their horses like trackriding and outdoor rides in the forest. Many horsegirls have for their horse or horses 2 saddles, dressage saddle and jumping saddle. I could see also westernriding in canada. That's an whole other story of saddles.
      I know kate has a good fundation and likes to learn. But don't forget to keep doing all kind of groundwork, that makes young horses much stronger in their backhand and balance, what is important to make a bond with the horse and to ride correct. Also kates sitting position is good. Did you knew that in bwlgium and the netherlands there are diferent schools where you have the normal lessons and combinated ith a horse or you can can bring your horse to the stables at the school. Also schools where you can learn to start a equine business. And than i don't even speak of schooling to be an instructor at diferent levels, also instrutor with the biomechanic of horses, freestyle academys, body language academy.... So many diferent. And i was surprised that that does'nt exist in the united states. In the netherlands you have to have a degree to give lessons, in oficial recognised education.
      Another fact: in spain there are 3 oficial saddlefitters, in canada 28, and in the netherlands i think more than 500. In the basic saddlefitters school are each year 35 students, and there are after that also a few extra specialization academys. I don't know all the horseshops but i know at least 25 brands. And there are brands with more branches. Even one: epplejeck, with 14 branches in the netherlands and 6 in Belgium 😘

    what breed of horse is Luna ?

  • @CiPuGi
    @CiPuGi 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    It often helps to get a young horse into a canter if you trot on the wrong diagonal. It helps push the inside shoulder forward and put weight on the outside hind.

    Back in the ‘70’s, 80’s, 90’s we didn’t walk horses through people doors. Just saying.
