The Secret To ICE COLD AC In An 80 Series Land Cruiser! | Aux Fan Install FZJ80

  • Living in the desert proposes a few challenges to keeping any cars interior cool, and the 80 series is no exception. One of the ways I have found to mitigate this on the 80 is an 2200 CFM auxiliary fan install. Much like the JDM 80 Series, this fan is mounted in a similar location, but with a lot more airflow and some custom wiring. If you are struggling during the summer months, give this a shot. Relatively inexpensive and rather quick upgrade to the factory AC system.

    It's always good to torque down the grill screws to 300 ft/lbs 😜 So whenever the AC is on the fan will turn on? It doesn't gauge what the temp or pressure is in the AC system is and then turn on? I think there are a couple of write-ups in Mud about this. I am curious to see what affect this has on the H2O temps when that air is being blown over the radiator.

      Yeah, basically this fan runs off of the AC pressure switch, I'm not sure what the function of that switch is, perhaps for compressor operation. I went wheeling soon after this and it keeps the temps right at 190 while doing low speed stuff and idling. It was about 85-90F ambient temp so I think that's pretty good. We'll see this summer when we're well over 100 degrees lol

    Those solder joint connectors are trash. Bought some and just metal plastic before the solder melts, heat gun isn't any better

      Good to know, figured I would use them on something less critical just in case 😂

    I did the same thing to my 80 with an old fan from a 4Runner. It’s perfect for stop and go traffic, slow speeds and on the trails. World of difference in the AC temps. Great mod!

      Absolutely! Good idea as well!

    So now that summer has definitely hit, how is the fan working out? What kind of temps are you pushing? In Vegas around 110°+ I'm pushing 60°ish without a fan

      Yeah I'm sitting around 102-108 depending on the day. I haven't measured it directly, and admittedly I should probably replace my condenser, but so far it has made a pretty significant difference over not having one last summer. AC is quite nice when idling for long periods compared to basically non existent before 😂.

    Great video, very informative. My AC feels a bit humid so I think a new dryer is in order. This fan set up looks like it would make a difference. I might have to try it. Thank you for posting.

      This has been one of the best mods I've done hands down, really makes a difference at idle for AC.

    What is that beefy radiator you have in there?

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a Ron Davis radiator OEM replacement. 10/10 recommend, well worth the money.

    why not just upgrade the clutch on the belt driven fan to move more air???

    • @motor.mausGarage
      @motor.mausGarage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Already did! This is for idle/low rpm AC performance mainly

      Oh, perfect! Do you have a link to it by chance? I wanna see if it'll be compatible with my 80. Mines got the diesel engine, and i dont have the room to install an Aux fan because of all my coolers i added an intercooler.....

      This is the one I got, but I don't think it'll work with the diesel engines. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent 🤔
