LMAO ...I know EXACTLY what that thumping is. It's an actuator in the HVAC box. A tab broke so now it just spins add hits the broken tab. I know because my 93 does the same thing. It goes away after 60 seconds. 😂😂😂
@@michaelnieman6218 I just had a 57 Olds Super 88 and a horse. When I was 15, I got the horse, and I rode her everywhere. At that time bicycles were not in fashion, so I rode my horse everywhere. Blend door actuator is exactly what I was thinking. My old ford used to clap for me every time I opened the door. 5 hours of dash disassembly and re assembly or hear my truck clapping for me for a minute or two when I fired her up. Easy choice.
I'm amazed my 99 S10 is still running all the original stuff other than usual alt/starter/AC compressor/4 or so heater cores/8 waterpumps/radiator/engine...ummmm? Never mind.
Paul you just let your kids struggle with working on their own vehicles and they will figure it out. It they come for help just tell them what needs to be done and let them figure it out. They will learn more from struggling then you doing it for them. I know it is hard to watch them struggle but what they learn is priceless. You don't insure all of them😂😂 Those sitting in the boneyard aren't insured. Of course some hold insurance all year, like the new pickup & their Yukon. The old firebird Paul acquired should be insured all year. Just the daily drivers, & those that are used for off road recovery for liability protection
@@Chevyman02 You can insure them all under the Fab Rat business policy. Then hire the boys as employee drivers so your rates don't go up for having unseasoned drivers. I'm sure their responsible young men but insurers will charge for that till age 25 or so.

As an automotive collision tech I somewhat approve of your repair. That thumping noise is an all too familiar thing with those trucks. The blend door is broken and it's fighting the vacuum. It's kind of a pain to fix being in the hvac box but it's not impossible.
Many years ago, I had a friend that used a small dozer to plow in fiber optics. He was having problems with his fuel filter plugging up, so I made him a primary screen that was easy to get to to clean. I put this screen on the fuel line fitting at the bottom of the tank. It worked well for him for a month, then he said that he would need to clean the screen every 20 minutes. So we pulled off the fuel tank, and I filled it full of water, then I cut a hole about 6 inches in diameter in the upper side of the tank. I then filled the tank with 2 five gallon buckets of crushed rock. I chose pieces of rock that would just barely fit through the hole in the tank. Then I made a patch for the hole, bolted it in place, and then we chained the tank to the boom of his back-hoe. We put about 20 gallons of water into the tank, and he proceeded to shake the heck out of the tank for about 30 minutes. You should have seen the crap that we got out of that tank, it was almost like a slurry. We then flushed the tank out a few more times, and he was good to go. We could not just replace the tank, because we could not find one. It was an old TD? so parts are hard to find, not to mention very expensive. He had no more issues with dirty fuel.
My dad had had a maroon truck just like this a '93 I grew up in that truck. That clunking noise is probably a blend door actuator motor, his made the same noise :D As did my 02 trail blazer
