    Lots of great stuff here, I personally don’t watch NH on a regular basis but I must say his knowledge of programming is insane. I kind of wrote him off bc his actual training isn’t very applicable to myself (there’s no way I could recover lifting like he does 6 times a week) but his knowledge of lifting is very deep indeed.

    Great interview, man. I find this blackpill/white pill stuff very interesting. I think this recent fight against the black pull is pushing too far towards naive optimism, creating unrealistic expectations, and thus setting people up for disappointment and disillusionment. Regarding the limits part, think of it as a perpetual newbie gauging RIR. I agree with NH here because there is no psychological sense with which we can gauge against what measure we are pushing ourselves. You only get the sense that it gets harder but thats about it. It happens with nearly every skill you can think of. There are supposedly biologically stamped phenomena/abilities you are never supposed to make improvement in until there is some researcher/anecdotal evidence to push against that perception. Pitch recognition being one, now we know its perfectly possible to get a nearly identical to "percect pitch" pitch recognition with some training. And like this, there are a Myriad of other scenarios/endeavours. Yes, how fast/far you progress will always take your genetic predispositions into account but even then epigenetics can and often do workaound these limitations to some extent. There will always be a hard cap at some point but its extremely unlikely the average person will ever reach it before old age makes you decline.

    People not believing NH is natural is kind of crazy… he says 6ft2in @210 lbs. Visually, I’d estimate him to be no leaner than 16% body fat in recent content. That puts him at FFMI of around 22. That’s unquestionably achievable naturally, for most people actually, if they learn how to train hard

  • @wilaustu
    @wilaustu 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't think either of you described double progression correctly. It means you have two ways of progressing: either by adding weight or adding reps. It's the same as NH's evolving rep range concept, because you progress in reps as long as you're within the range, but you progress in weight any time you reach the top end of the rep range. The increase in weight should put you back in the low end of the rep range and you focus on adding reps again and so on.

    it took 2,5 years until someone explained to NH that his evolving reps/sets is just variation of double/triple progression, however i'm pretty sure he to this day treats it same way i.e. "its different from what others talk about and it wasn't explained before i did it" instead of just saying "here is my version of double progression and my reasoning behind it"
    also this IQ take is as confident as it is stupid, however there is still no video of NH about IQ or twin studies
    as of implications of the fact, that IQ is 90% genetics, consider less redistribution of wealth within the country and between countries, from wealthy to poor, from whites to blacks, from west to africa etc
    you yourself could come up with hundreds of implications if you actually accepted this fact

      haha I should do a vid where I talk about this amongst other things, but it is kinda similar to double progression, Sean N....not sure what his name is, has a good video on that.

    • @Spike00773
      @Spike00773 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's basically the same, NH doesn't seem to realize what double progression is. But as he said, the main difference with evolving rep ranges is that you'll use the same weight for all sets instead of increasing weight in some sets but not other like you would do with DDP

    • @ssdabel
      @ssdabel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Spike00773 yep, he did mention that, but I think with some iterations of double progression you also do that. So it would be like, for example:
      8-12 reps, 3 sets on the bench
      Week 1: 80 kgs x 11, 9,7
      Week 2: 80 kgs x 12, 9,7
      Week 3: 80 kgs x 12, 10,7
      Week 4: 80 kgs x 12,10,8 --> now you can increase the weight.
      I'm pretty sure double progression is often applied this way by many.

    • @BBoor82
      @BBoor82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ssdabel @spike
      From my understanding, a STANDARD DP would not have you increase the weight until ALL sets hit top of rep range. I.e. 12-12-12 then increase.
      DDP would be variable, where each set operates on it's own spectrum. If ONE SET hits 12 reps, then you increase weight. So it could be like:
      80 x 12-10-8 (so next week you would increase to 85 for the FIRST set, but leave the subsequent sets at 80).
      It seems NH approach is like a hybrid, where you would increase ALL sets, once ONE SET hits the top of the rep range.

    It feels like a NH video but it's not. Let that sink in

  • @user-cn6my8kz4e
    @user-cn6my8kz4e 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I followed this guy for a while but I can’t really get past the fact that he doesn’t have any citations for any of his theories. His entire approach to training seem to be based on speculation and his own logical conclusions that lack arguments. Sure, it obviously works well for him - he’s got an impressive physique. But many things work for many people for a variety of reasons, eg. good genes etc. Doesn’t mean it’s appropriate advice for the majority of people which is is why scientific research is useful

    • @ssdabel
      @ssdabel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From his videos to me it's clear that he at least learned from people who are rather scientific in their thinking, or he is familiar with the scientific consensus on most topics. Either way, I think if there is additional input he could benefit from would be to work with more people and see what others respond well to -much more so than being more familiar with the literature. I think this generally applies to everyone.

    • @timk8258
      @timk8258 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s all speculation and anecdote delivered in rambling, disjointed diatribes as if to be deliberately incoherent. Just look at the numerous comments here from people who still don’t understand how his rep ranges work despite the fact that he has a series of like 15 videos long “explaining” the concept.

    • @Soccasteve
      @Soccasteve 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These kind of comments always crack me up. Do you honestly expect someone to cite "science" for you anytime they tell you something? If they did so, would you go and look up said article and confirm said conclusion was actually correct and not taken out of context? Would you then look up all the other articles surrounding the topic to make sure this study represents the entire literature and isn't just a one off? Insane.
      You're not going to be able to figure out everything there is to know by studying scientific articles, this activity is more of an art than a science. There are multiple ways of going about things and even if you did know all the "science" then you're still going to have to do your own experiments because not everyone responds the same way to training. You're better off talking to an experienced coach than someone who only reads research articles and doesn't train hard at all. Sure some research is interesting and useful but with lifting you're better off experimenting with a few ideas, seeing how they work, then adjusting and tweaking from there. If you really want results, get an experienced coach who's trained a lot of clients with good success.
