@Hi_Nu Ver 0 Zero_Tester The music at the end of Lufia 2 is soooooooo great and fitting. I loved those 2 games, but if you guys like cool stories I recommend "Undertale" and/or "To the moon"
To me it's one of the top 3 RPGs on the SNES. The other 2 being FF6 and Chrono Trigger (very unoriginal, I know, lol). I love A LOT of 16-bit era JRPG's, played most of them over the years (not so much after they went 3D), so the competition is fierce, but if I had to pick 3 on SNES, these would be my favorite ones. As for which one of them is better than the others, this is too tough to answer, they have different qualities that I love about each of them.
Boys. My game was success i could end this game, BUT i dont know exactly what happaned at the end? Who knocked the door? an what what happened with Ark?
I played Terranigma 20 years ago, and I should play it again because it was a bewildering fantasy epic. I just remember being constantly amazed and feeling like I was some legendary figure from Greek mythology. The rest of the time I was totally confused, had no idea what was going on, but the gameplay was solid
Terranigma is singlehandedly one of the best video game experiences that there is. To those of you on the fence about playing this game: play it. Enjoy it. Cry with it. Love it. You won’t be disappointed!
It certainly is one of the best Snes games. For me I do not think its close to top 10-20 games ever or anything. But it is still a very enjoyable experience.
@@BalboaBaggins Better than some FF games? For sure? Than most?....I think thats a stretch. FF6 FF7 FF10 Easily beat terranigma. Terra is for sure better than FF1 and 2, 3-5 is debatable. 8 is probably as good as terra with different flaws. FF went to hell when they made it online tho.
This game is amazing. It has 3 parts that are completely different! 1. Many hours just to get out of the under world. 2. Many many hours to ressurent the world 3. A ressurected world where you have an RPG/city building mechanic. Awesome!
Man, I remember thinking after beating the 5th tower "man, that was a cool game!" and then they send you to the overworld. I couldn't believe how massive this game was
Never played this or Soul Blazer. But I did play Illusion of Gaia and it was so good that now I want to play both this and Soul Blazer. Before recently I didn't know these games existed.
Both games are great. He kinda underplayed the difficulty of Teranigma though. There's parts that are rediculously hard. The puzzles are mind breaking and there's parts where the difficulty increases to the point where you feel like you hit a brick wall. Play it. With a walkthrough.

I still remember the goat you were left with under the avalanche. Or the zombie-infested "mirage town" in the Gobi Desert. Maan... this game has so many sad and memorable moments.
This was the game that got me into gaming as a whole. You can imagine how mindblowing was to a kid to jump from casual Mario and Killer Instinct, to goddamn Terranigma. The art style, visuals and story are still, in my opinion, one of the best I've seen; peak SNES goodness here. I firmly believe that those who answer that Chrono Trigger was the best RPG snes without at least taking a moment to consider, have not played this game.
@@ericwatts7757 I can honestly say the same about Terranigma. I played Chrono Trigger well after Terranigma, so I admit that nostalgia may play a big part in my opinion.
I would consider them different games and fairly equal, same as Secret of Mana which I would also put as being fairly equal. Most SNES RPG's I played were fantastic.
This game was one of the few RPGs in Germany but therefore popular, we played it with friends from the neighborghood for years 1996-2000. A very religious experience, especially wuth superb German translation by the Nintendo Club Deutschland Staff and the German Big Box package with the Guide.
Terranigma was the first game that made me cry. The ending, where Ark was given one final day, before pretty much disappearing from reality along with Crysta and all its inhabitants, and its subsequent ending, left me teary eyed. This whole game is basically about one dude, fighting to bring back the world as we know it all on his own. And in the end, no one will remember him. As a young man, still trying to find his own way in the world, this hit me on so many levels. Especially when I saw the end credits and heard its music. I still have the original cartridge and I cherish having it. And Bloody Mary is still an absolute b*tch
Such an underrated gem. It 's easily in Top5 SNES games ever made. One of those games that makes you feel like you've experienced something special whenever you beat it (just like, let's say, FFVI or Chrono Trigger).
I absolutely adored what little of this game I got to play in my youth. I remember having to walk away to compose myself after the avalanche and truly felt like I'd lost something when I could no longer speak with my animal friends. I still want to one day return and beat the game completely. A true masterpiece and well worth the time invested into it.
Didn't get to play this one until about 6 years ago, but it came to me at a very difficult time in my life. Absolutely blew me away, with one of the most bittersweet endings ever. I will say that The Way Home might be my single favorite video game music track.
Us didnt get Terranigma, Eu didnt get Mario RPG and Chrono Trigger... some of the best games of the system sadly. Luckily, we can enjoy it in many forms easily nowadays and everyone should check these gems out. Solid video and yea, man is the SOT so good in Terranigma.
So this video was just recommended to me, and every time I see someone on here talking about Terranigma I have to watch. Terranigma still sits extremely high as not just one of my favourite RPGs, but also as one of my favourite games in general. It's such a beautiful game visually, audibly and narratively and it's rare a game hits me emotionally quite like Terranigma did. That ending credit roll still manages to bring a tear to my eye even after the countless times I've seen it. Pretty sure I still have my original cart somewhere (Aussie here) but my SNES is long gone so I still give it a run every few years emulated. I had no idea growing up with this game that America never got it. Such a shame, but if it makes you feel better we never got Chrono Trigger until the DS port ;)
This was one game I played with an emulator more than 20 yrs ago and it blew me away, so much that I continue looking for games of this style on the current consoles. Thak you for the trip down memory lane
I just learn that there is a remake version of ActRaiser for PS4, Pc and Nintendo Switch. (ActRaiser Renaissance) Let's hope the "Blazer trilogy" also finds its way to modern platforms.
I remember getting stuck for about two weeks in the destroyed town (yeah I know the name, vague for spoilers :P) before finally spotting those monsters walking into the house from behind. Subtle, game, *real* subtle. :P
I played it last year and when the credits rolled i stood up and clapped... This was not my ordinary RPG experience... Rather it has been a journey and a time travel back to 1995... This game is a masterpiece, from the exquisitely good artistic design to the tears inducing music that reflects what you see on screen in a way that makes you feel like you never did before... Quintet made a masterpiece, and sadly, only a handful of people got the chance to praise them, before they dismantled and went separate ways... When I will be 80 years old, rocking back and forth on my wodden chain, I'd like to be reminded of this game, and maybe even have a chance to play it again and listen to those tunes...
I love this game to bits. Definitely would rank it above FF6 personally. One thing you could have highlighted better is the sheer amount of optional things to do. Also the fourth game in the Quintet Quartet: Robotrek. Definitely recommend all four. Anyhoo... Most memorable part? Difficult to choose just one part... But let's go with Louran. When you first arrive it seems like a 'normal' fantasy town/city... But at night it's zombie time in the dead city. Even though its not a long part of the game it is memorable because even here there's so many little details and optional outcomes.
Man, I remember 14 years ago when I was in high school AUS (secondary school if you're in US), a friend gave me a flash drive with a SNES emulator and a huge ROM archive. I played all the FF, Lufia and Breath of Fire games but Terranigma took the cake for me. I never finished it because I got stuck and couldn't figure out what to do next. But it was so mysterious and riveting. I was sick off the random-cut turn-based battle style of FF so the seamless action battle system was so damn refreshing. There was NO content on youtube on Terranigma 14 years ago. I'm so happy that people are giving this game more attention. Cheers mate! How awesome would a full-on 3d open-world AAA remake of Terranigma be in 2022 with all the awesome tech we have now?!
I am still amazed how many topics they put into this story: Dualism, beeing one with nature, the lion king, exploitation of nature, history, scientific discoveries, moral, scientists without responsibility, Faust, bio weapons, virus, artifical life, zombie apocalipse, …
I randomly ran across this game in a ROM pack many years back. For some reason this game isn't in every pack, just some of them. I tried it out... for like 10 hours straight. This is one of the greatest games on the SNES and it's a shame I didn't have it back in the day.
Would be so cool if they made remasters/remakes of this trilogy but specifically the most memorable part for me in Terranigma is the whole area/part with the Lion King reference, good stuff~
I feel so fortunately to play this through emulation back in the early 2000s. I was on a rom site, and was just browsing genres and picked it completely by random. No hype. Discovered it by pure accident. One of my favorites for sure. The soundtrack is amazing.
I have heard so much about this game in the last couple of years, and I hope that I can play it soon, because you really summed it and its merits up in a beautiful way. Absolutely love your videos, Sir!
Wow, this video truly is a nostalgia trip to me! Terranigma was the first real (action) RPG I've ever played and I loved and still love every second of it. Gameplay is awesome: a well thought out balance between classic RPG elements and interactive gameplay. But I think we can all agree that the story of this game is truly something you'll never forget in ANY videogame. Especially the finale where every mystery until this point in the game becomes clear. Without spoiling to much: the scene with (Baby) Ark and Melina. To keep it short, the ending (still) hits hard... The buildup throughout the intired game is also great (you get to know and love the characters). The way the game tries to explain the creation of "everything" and how you progressively see the world growing and even more important, evolving is really special. Truly one of my favourite games of all time!!!😁
I bought this game as a teenager at a fleamarket because I liked the cover and the title. I’ve played it through many times since and every time I’m amazed at how beautiful the story is. I especially love the fighting system and never found a game where I enjoyed it that much. Just an amazing game through and through!
This is the biggest misconception in Terranigma because when magic is used you get the crystals/Magirock back, so the use of magic is unlimited and that's why the magic also costs money to the dealer otherwise the magic would be free.
"Late in the consoles life-cycle." I remember STILL seeing Genesis display units on Toyr'R'Us in 1997 when The Lost World Jurassic Park was released for the console.
Luckily the game was released in Germany at the time. It was one of my most memorable games of my childhood. Even today, the story of this game is pretty much the best I know from JRPGs. The game should have been released in North America as well, it was definitely one of the highlights of the Super Nintendo era.
This is a game I need to go back and finish- I picked up a repro cart of it and the game blew me away because of how good it was! The combat is way fun and the music is very well done. One of my favorite tracks is Zue but a lot of the music hits the emotions. Reviving the world was such a cool concept and is one you really don't see very often. I loved watching what happened after each dungeon during the 2nd act of the game. I highly recommend the game and encourage anyone who is interested to play it however you can. Great review!
Just finished it last night. This is a game that sticks with me. Its simple but poignant story moved me. I can't wait to play it again. You're right about the menu. Also the magic system. I hardly used it. Ark's battle moves by themselves are fun enough.
Beat Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia and loved both of the games. Never had a chance to play Terranigma since too busy with work. Would love to set some time for a month to play through all 3 and fully enjoy them.
Privileged to have played this game as a kid. Amazing storyline, engrossing gameplay, and fvking challenging to boot. A true masterpiece. They dont make em like this anymore.
Slider attack FTW! I remember finding the town of crysta so mysterious and appealing, particularly being in the middle of what is otherwise a desolate land. It made me want to know more about that world and town. The "plot twist" near the end however felt....fairly fricking dumb to be honest. Unless it was meant to be some sort of joke, which it didnt feel like. It literally changed/affected nothing.
I think this was one of the first games I played once I discovered rom emulation and games in English (fan translations, etc.) that never made it to the USA, great game, your video made me want to play It again
No lie, this game is begging for a remake. Imagine an open world version of this, where you have to rebuild with all the modern advancements in that genre from today
German Fans of Terranigma should definitly watch Parappa's In-Depth analysis "Das Quintet-Quintett: Terranigma (Teil 1 und 2 )". Its over 2 and a half hours long, but worth every minute. Its very entertaining and informative, it even has some songs in between.
I'm convinced that if this game was released on the SNES in the USA, it would've been just as populat as Chrono Trigger and FFVI. Easily my favorite SNES game!
I played on Emu. Did hallucinate Australia being a secret hidden continent? I remember playing it, and some how lost my save file, second time I played it I found a temple i didn't find my first play through and it was Australia.
The most memorable part of this game? Getting stuck in it. First, there's the Ra Dewdrop, which for some unusual reason, has to be equipped instead of used from the pause menu, THEN used in the game field, THEN you're allowed into the room with the poison gas. Not very intuitive design. There's that one castle because they only said "check the wall opposite the unpaired statue" once, and never again, making the hint disappear forever. ...and then there's grinding before Dark Gaia. Thematically, it's okay, but the translation is not great. Admittedly, it was the same guy who translated the original Pokemon, and it was a different time. Oh, and if you've ever played Robopon 2 (doesn't matter which version), you might notice that A LOT of Quintet's old graphics get reused in that game (including Terranigma's overworld GFX and font), and that's no coincidence. At least four Quintet staff members worked on that one, and it was one of their last before they mysteriously vanished.
I'm trying to remember a SNES game - is this the one? It had city expansion but it was bugged. One of the cities couldn't max out even if all quests were done. And you could buy/own a flat in one of them. I also think you marry and get a child. Your main character and wife sacrifice themselves and you play on as the kid. For reference I'm German and probably played the game like 30y ago.
oh man good game but i have to revisit it because i played years ago. the one thing I never forgot was the side quest town building missions I loved that about it.

One of the most underrated games ever. It's a crime that so many people were robbed of discovering this game because of bad circumstances.
Quintet trilogy on SNES is just so unbelievably good.
"Late in the consoles life-cycle." I remember STILL seeing Genesis display units on Toyr'R'Us in 1997 when The Lost World Jurassic Park was released for the console.
... playing the ending theme in the background .... makes me so emotional ..
Your videos are the absolute best! So glad to catch this one (almost) live.
Thanks Dennis! Apologies for the late response.
Funny this video came up. I just recently fired up snes9x and decided to give this game a try.
Luckily the game was released in Germany at the time. It was one of my most memorable games of my childhood. Even today, the story of this game is pretty much the best I know from JRPGs. The game should have been released in North America as well, it was definitely one of the highlights of the Super Nintendo era.
Your videos are in the elite of snes and ps1 game info. I love watching them.
I agree with the description given in the video; this is such an amazing game!
Just finished it last night. This is a game that sticks with me. Its simple but poignant story moved me. I can't wait to play it again. You're right about the menu. Also the magic system. I hardly used it. Ark's battle moves by themselves are fun enough.
Congrats! Such a great game.
If this game ever got remade or a remake wow. We would be in for an absolute treat cause I love this game.
Man! I never played it, but now I really want to. Looks great.
I was just thinking about this game recently. Played it a few years ago and was blown away. Truly a lost gem if you live in the US.
Beat Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia and loved both of the games. Never had a chance to play Terranigma since too busy with work. Would love to set some time for a month to play through all 3 and fully enjoy them.
When the shot of the dove and yea train? I don’t remember that scene for some reason
I didn't realize they used real places and people from history after some time through the game but it was definitely something I enjoyed
Privileged to have played this game as a kid. Amazing storyline, engrossing gameplay, and fvking challenging to boot. A true masterpiece. They dont make em like this anymore.
It really is!
I discovered this gem in 2017 on my ps3
I was amazed how beautiful it was and well polished
I recommend this 10/10
Slider attack FTW!
It's an official translation for the PAL region. It also exists in German and French. Not aure about Spanish and Italian.
Who else wound end up SCREAMING at that dang fishing boy to move his ass so you could get the red gem/stone from under him like I did?🤭
No lie, this game is begging for a remake.
Goog day, is the opening theme to your videos from Final Fantasy 6?
It's Magus' theme from Chrono Trigger. Closing theme is from FF6 though.
That room with the painting of the people with no eyes.
Good memory!
I played this game on emulators about 4 times over! Bought a copy off Ebay when it was cheap back in 04.
Time to unpack my old SNES with a copy of this and play again, Thank you!
I loved this game. Hard game to get a hold of. Played on emulater, but many of the emulators have issues with this game specifically.
one of my favorite games of all time :)
My all time favorite game. It’s too bad it never came to the west. Thank god for emulators.
Yeah,I needed a guide around 3/4 through, it gets pretty challenging with many "what the heck do I do next" moments. But overall a solid game
It had a complete game guide in the package when it was released here in Germany back then.
Created back then a perfect save file with all items, best gear and weapons possible + max. level and money in 10 1/2 hours. 👍🏻
Greatest action RPG ever? More than that, this is probably one of the best games of all time.
My favourite game on the super Nintendo. I still like to listening to the soundtrack today
That must be Dragon Quest 5 I guess, I'm not really sure. Terranigma doesn't have marriage.
oh man good game but i have to revisit it because i played years ago. the one thing I never forgot was the side quest town building missions I loved that about it.
Always thought yhis was like a part of illusions of gaia
Terranigma - Secret of Mana - Lufia Best games of the World THX for this Super Nintendo Time
Now I know why I ended up with a giant sailor knot in my throat upon finishing this game through emulation a decade ago.
Just a fun fact: In Portuguese "Terra(e)nigma"" means "Puzzle of the Earth". Great game, by the way!
I always remember the zombie town scenario. That was really sad...
Duuuuuude you just took me many many many years back.thank you
Truly one of the greatest Games of all Times
New subscriber here! Really enjoy your videos. I’ll just ignore that little shade thrown at Lagoon in this one 😜
The Live A Live remake gives me hope that this game will get similar treatment.
Yes, seems like they’re giving some love to these old classics!
I need to download this I loved
Soul blazer and illusion of Gaia. Not sure why this was never released
This is one ill never forget ❤️
Wasn't it great?
