    The police made an attempt to reason with the hijacker, then when he refused to accept, they acted accordingly. If someone is putting the lives of innocents in danger, the safety of the hostages takes priority over the survival of the suspect.

    Same thing happened here in my country a few years ago and the hijacked vehicle was a tourist bus to boot. Sad to say our rescue/de escalation attempt was an utter failure. Our national police and the local and national govt, by extension, embarrassed themselves live on national TV, not wearing the prescribed wear , fking up protocols during such emergency situations. The international community feasted on our incompetence, and the mother nation of the victims condemned us for it. Those were dark times.

    Apparently, in Brazil the Governors helicopter-in, directly to crime scenes on bridges and praise the police for killing criminals.
    Whereas, in other parts of the same hemisphere but further north, the Governors make excuses for criminals killing police.

      A person dying is never a happy ending. All of the situation is sad, it should have never happened in the first place, but we are glad no innocent lives were taken. But this is definitely not a happy situation nor ending, its not like they all went to disney world and ate ice cream, thats a happy ending.
      Either he was crazy, or poor, or whatever, a society should work to avoid these problems happening in the future, so that the victims dont go through traumas like that, and that no one would have a reason to hijack a bus..

    Some background story: many years ago a similar situation happened in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). At the time the police failed to shoot the hijacker and he ended up killing innocent people.

    We, the Brazilian people, regret the situation in which the criminal placed the innocent workers.
    We regret the situation and not the action. I hope other criminals think twice. Because even the people themselves are doing justice with their own hands. We are like that, stole died.

      So true, the same thing happened in Manila when a former soldier highjacked a bus full of Chinese tourists... The outcome was not good, a couple of people died and it was so embarrassing for the PNP 🤦

      PNP watching this won't do anything, corruption and making money is the only thing they're good at (most of them). Other than equipments that is lacking, they are not prepared well for these cases.

    For everyone wondering, while the FBI and the SWAT are better funded end better equipped, Brazilian BOPE are way better trained, since they go in shootouts weekly, if not daily, and most criminals are armed with automatic rifles

Since criminalize the guns rights, our criminality just grow a lot. It's a very dangerous country here, Rio de Janeiro it's the worst big city, between 2018 and 2019 they had a Military intervention because of massive number of criminal organization in Rio's slums. I don't live in Rio, i live in a medium town close to São Paulo, biggest city in South America, and even here, criminal organization is in crontrol of slums and prisons, they have better guns than police and the population have nothing for defend themselfes.
