This piece of furniture is called a chifforobe. Chifforobe is a word type called a portmanteau, a word formed by blending two other words together, in this case chiffonier (chest of drawers) and a wardrobe (cabinet for hanging clothes). Chifforobes were first advertised in the United States in the 1908 Sears and Robuck catalog.
I love that word! Ive noticed its more common in the southern part of the United States, but i use it every chance❤ i get, because i think its a cool word
I have one made of solid maple. The lady sold it to me was the daughter of the furniture maker in Eastern Canada. On one side there is a pivoting brass gizmo to hold an array of ties and a mirror is inside that door. She called it a “gentleman’s wardrobe”.

I rescued a kitten that someone abandoned in a park restroom. My wife named her Silence. Believe it or not, she is living up to her name. But her voice is sweet and oh so darling.
That's true. We are parents of a 14 yo senior Bengal and he is still very active. When he gets bored he starts crying with an hilarious low voice 'moooooouuuuuu'. 😹He needs a lot of attention, I always have to play hide and seek with him. We love him so much! 💞 Btw our Maui looks just the same like Mango.

We lost our boy the Monday before Eater this year, we just rescued a little girl two weeks ago. We were looking for another Bengal, once you've had one there is no going back. I love the coat of the Bengal. I have a very common tabby, but he's a big cat, as in tall, bigger feet, etc. The personality sounds like my tabby! My cat Jax talks all the time, needy, always going, very lovable. He's a handful! I do adore him. Maybe some hidden Bengal in him???

The leg switch was wise. Really makes the entire hardware stand out. The veneer is very unusual so adds so much dimension to this piece. Always a pleasure to watch a perfectionist and his meticulous methods. 👍
Anyone remember The Furniture Guys that used to be on PBS? I loved them. Anyway, they'd use a hypodermic needle to add glue to tight cracks. In this instance, I think our hero made the better choice.
My Bengal wasn’t very vocal, but his male sibling never shut up 😫 I like the veneer very much & the legs. I would like it better if the wood pieces were stained a little darker to match the dark grain of the veneer. Another job well done 👍🏼
The veneer is fabulous and the second set of legs make this a showpiece. Mando needs a full time friend. I had cats for 45 years. The meows in this case are ‘I want attention and company’.
The first time I heard this expression, it was on a cooking show with Jamie Oliver. He says it all the time, and I get a kick out of hearing it in your videos. It’s so much more British than other options like “ta-dah” or “voila” to say “there you go” when you’ve finished a step in the process.
Its so uniquely you Jay. Love the heavy grain of the veneer. The wax oil color is perfect, i was afraid it was going to be too dark. But its not. The brass pulls and lega were absolutely the right choice. Love this piece!
You do come across the most unique furniture finds. I especially like the way you placed the grain horizontally & vertically on the front. Second set of legs are perfection & the simple knobs on the drawers are so fitting. Another fabulous job. Good that you have help. Now Mando & Hugo will have another human to supervise!

It was meant as a gentleman’s “dresser” with a place for shoes, drawers for undergarments, socks, collars and ties, and a hanging area for suits and shirts. Sometimes there are two doors to pull open at the front like a wardrobe with one side for hanging and the other has drawers.
Really exquisite looking wardrobe. Once yellow paint stripped, you really had a blank slate & went above & beyond to give this a new life. Ex ellent job! BTW, I love the legs you decided to us!
Who could’ve imagined that veneer would work? It almost matches Mondo’s fanciness… or his finess ~ I say meow away til your dad gets you a leash and starts walking you to the park. Tell him it’s past time you see the sights. If your dad can pick out this veneer, he can clearly see there is so much out there to show you. I love that veneer! The only thing I think I would have preferred is to have the grain of the drawers going the same direction as the rest of the piece.
Excellent restoration and great decisions to remove the lacquer and go with different legs. I have never heard of white macassar ebony, but it is stunning! Great work, and welcome, Rad!

The drawer pulls and legs work really well together on this piece (love those legs you chose!). I would be so happy to have this in my house! Awesome work!
The restoration gave the piece a very elegant look. Those brass legs and drawer pulls was a great choice for this piece, it really sets it off nicely, much better than the long legs. I'll be honest Jay that when you were installing the new veneer, I wasn't sold on how it looked. However, once the stained wax was applied it really gave the piece that elegance and richness that it deserved. Nice to see Rad in the video and Hugo and Mando were a welcome sight. @@debk9889 Bengals do have tabby in them, they are a cross breed between Asian Leopard Cats and domestic cats, in America they used Ocelots.

The restoration gave the piece a very elegant look. Those brass legs and drawer pulls was a great choice for this piece, it really sets it off nicely, much better than the long legs. I'll be honest Jay that when you were installing the new veneer, I wasn't sold on how it looked. However, once the stained wax was applied it really gave the piece that elegance and richness that it deserved. Nice to see Rad in the video and Hugo and Mando were a welcome sight.
