Do you have any idea of the incredible damage you people did to the culture and psyche of America? You frankly should be serving a life sentence for obscenity.
Did you happen to work with the Great Ron Weiner? It must have been a great thrill to be a part of such a ground-breaking, and wonderful program. Thanks for sharing.
RIP to a trailblazer-Mr. Phil Donahue. I remember watching his final show. It felt like a passing of the torch from him to Oprah. When I was a kid, whenever that theme song came on, it was time for me to be quiet and let the adults watch Donahue and Oprah. My prayers are with Marlo and the rest of the family.
I remember watching this in a hotel lobby in Richmond, Virginia. The employee at the front desk asked me why wasn't I watching this in my room and I told him that I wasn't staying in the hotel, but my television at home had broken the night before and I was a huge Donahue fan. He said I could stay until his manager came. His manager came at some point and we all watched it together!
In late 1995, "Donahue" moved to the studios of the News/Talk Channel after losing its flagship station, WNBC-TV (Studio 8G at 30 Rock) in the New York market. I love this final episode and am hoping that someone will post the entire final two weeks of shows. Thanks for sharing.
Phil Donahue was not only a pioneer, but an original who succeeded by being himself. In later years, he faced increased competition and let us not forget "Oprah" who over-took "Donahue" in the ratings race and never looked back. This final episode was "buried" in late late night time periods on many of the television stations that carried it. I was saddened that this great host did not receive a proper ending.
The Phil Donahue Show debuted as a local program on November 6, 1967. It aired for 29 seasons, producing over 6,000 episodes. After 6,715 episodes (1967-1996), Phil Donahue announced his retirement from daytime television. The final episode aired on September 13, 1996.👍
THE 3 BEST THEMES DURING 29 YEARS OF DONAHUE WERE IN MY OPINION:1.THE 1979-85 THEME 2.SILVER FOX BY MIKE POST 1985-90? & 3.DON GRADY,S FINAL THEME 1990?-1996!!
I was a sort of an atheist myself until certain things that has happened in my life TURNED ME AROUND INTO A BELIEVER OF THE BIG BOSS UPSTAIRS!!-GOD!! THANK YOU LORD FOR SHOWING THAT LIGHT!!--AMEN!! Mr.Jason Anthony Routhier of Baltimore MD!!
omg you have no idea how long I wanted to see this gave up looking for it about three years ago...LOL a year too soon...thanks so much for posting this...I had a chance to tape it but someone needed something else more and I regretted that ever since. TY!
It was its time. That genre is all but gone now and what is in is not half as exciting. So boring. Phils show was very rewatchable all these years😃later. I would say even more than Oprah’s show
Phil Donahue created the talk show genre paving the way for Geraldo, Oprah, Sally, Montel, Jerry, just to name a few. He broke ground covering all kinds of subjects that was controversial. Thanks for the memories Phil, rest easy.
I didn't Phil Donahue just died yesterday at age 88!!😢😢😢😢 A few days ago Peter Marshall The Master of The Hollywood Squares died 8-15-2024 at 98!! RIP!! PHIL DONAHUE & PETER MARSHALL!! ("DONAHUE" & "THE HOLLYWOOD SQUARES")
As I said once before my other phone 📱 went up a few months ago--The 3 best Donahue themes that aired during the last 29 years (1967-1996) were 1. The 1979-1985 theme 2. The Mike Post "SILVER FOX" theme 1985-1990 3. The Don Grady 1990-1996 theme!!
Truthfully I was never into talk shows even when Donahue was popular.HOWEVER A PART OF ME NOW MISSES DONAHUE!! ALSO THE 3 THEMES I THOUGHT WERE THE BEST THEMES FOR THE SHOW--THE 1979-1985 THEME!!--THE MIKE POST THEME AKA 'SILVER FOX' 1985-1990 & FINALLY THE DON GRADY JAZZY LIKE THEME 1990-1996!!
61 years old, he can collect social security if he has enough money saved. 😅😅😅 I guess he'll make it. ❤ I am grateful for Donahue. He met the second love of his life, Marlo on this show. Rest in Peace, Phil, 88 years 🙏
The show lost the NY market in the summer of 1995. I think there was an independent station right outside NY running the show. This was perhaps the major factor in Donahue ending the show.
Looking back at these shows Donahue was the best. Most of the other ones were trash. If you watch episodes of Oprah Winfreyyou find yourself wondering why did I like this. She really wasn't a very good interviewer and her celebrity ones are just a waste of time to watch. For some reason I use to like her.
Merri Cat That’s how I felt too, I was never a huge Oprah Winfrey Show fan, I watched it probably because my grandmother had it on or was at a doctor’s office and it seem like In the later 90’s and 2000’s she just had celebrities on her show, and most of them were probably her friends. It’s kinda boring when the only thing you do on your show is ask questions to people you know. I remember a kid and seeing Oprah go to Disney World and thought ummmm isn’t this a talk show???
Let's not kid ourselves. Phil certainly broadcast his fair share of trash and exploitative subject matter. However, along the way, there were moments where you felt that his program was worthwhile.
The end of an Era. A Pioneer. A Living Legend in Daytime Television. A great Man! Thanks for posting.
I was so proud to be part of the DONAHUE staff for this wonderful progra and the years I spent at the show with Phil and the Donahue family!
Do you have any idea of the incredible damage you people did to the culture and psyche of America? You frankly should be serving a life sentence for obscenity.
I had hoped that some of the Donahue episodes would make it to DVD one day, especially the finale. This was one of the best farewells to any TV show.
Did you happen to work with the Great Ron Weiner? It must have been a great thrill to be a part of such a ground-breaking, and wonderful program. Thanks for sharing.
The greatest interviewer of all time!
These old Dinahue shows need to be available to all

Phil Donahue was a one-in-a-million person. Kind, smart. A good person. 😢 Thanks for the wonderful memories Phil. Glad we have your shows to watch.
Can't believe it aired 25 years ago today. I hope this makes it to DVD.
Man i miss Donahue.....he was the king of talk television...hands down
It’s too bad The Phil Donahue Show’s last episode was on Friday September 13, 1996.
@@fernandoifill-ruiz6410 I know. They buried it. Once "Donahue" lost WNBC-TV and left Studio 8G in Rockefeller Center, they knew if was over.
When I was a child, during summer vacation, this was a daily ritual. It was impactful powerful and thoroughly great to watch. Phil you done good!!!❤🎉

I hardly ever reply to coments, but good for you and good for them!
What, the final episode, or the 1960s homosexual episode?
That is funny

0:01 RIP Don Grady. Your theme song here was the best Donahue theme ever.
But Grady's Donahue theme song is not the best; Mike Post's Donahue theme song is!
nope, gradys is the best
@@danalong1237 The Disco-like version of the mid-seventies and symphony-like theme of the late 1970's and early 1980's was excellent!

Now Phil Donahue has gone to heaven.
RIP Phil Donahue
I had no idea this show was still running into the 90s.
Twenty-Nine seasons. 26 in national syndication.
I was so saddened when Donahue went off the air.
Hecus handling his last show beautifully.
Phil knew the end was near once WNBC-TV dropped "Donahue" from their schedule thus forcing the show to vacate Studio 8G at 30 Rock.@brookehanley3659

Donahue got pushed out by Povich, Springer, and Rafael. Now they're all off tv, yet Donahue was the classiest.

Phil was a class act
Best Theme Song Ever!
Don Agrati was the best. Thank you for the music.
RIP!! "DONAHUE" 1967-1996 & "THE HOLLYWOOD SQUARES" the Peter Marshall era 1966-1981!! & RIP!! PETER MARSHALL & PHIL DONAHUE!!😢😢
I miss Phil!
By this time, I’m not even sure when our market aired Donahue. Traditionally it was 9am but eventually was replaced by other programs
Madelyn O'Hare was dead as a doornail when they taped this

I'm in Dayton and never knew his original 3-year run of the show was on WDTN
THE END OF 2 ERAS!!

I am sure Phil and Marlo lived his new freedom. Phil had a good run
Phil seems very concerned about Madeline.
OMG...his daughter looks so unhappy.
Wonder why?
The atheist woman (mentioned at the beginning of the show) was killed, thus why they couldn't reach them.
She was killed? I don,t remember hearing about Madeline being killed. When did that happen? Or did it really happen?
Phil knew WHEN TO GO...
More SHOULD...LOL
1996 was a good and bad year for me.
Anybody noticed Don Grady at 0:42?
Thanks. His theme song was the best. I wonder if he had an actual title for that theme song.
Mike Post's "Donahue" theme is the best in my 📚!
too muffled to watch. Re-Upload it with some treble. Sounds like it was played through a boxing glove
why did Donahue really leave
He lost the NY market in September 1995. That was the main reason why he ended the show.
Age?

OPRAH ended a lot of shows
Generally these shows end once rating begin to slide ,it's that simple .
Phil's show was booted by the famous 'OPRAH WINFREY SHOW' that what happened,he fell behind the times.that's life.
He didn’t want to sell out like a lot of other talk shows at the time and his show ended at a time when talk shows were at its height of trash tv.

Horrible and so goes the demoralization of America.
too liberal, i could never watch him.
