It's been a while since I did my research, but I remember that the only problem with alternatives to M.2 port is performance loss. Thunderbolt 3.0 (Type C) should have a 20% performance loss. While m.2 has only up to 5% or no loss at all.

As far I think we just need to improve the quality of smart mirroring such as sending and reading data at a very high speed. Then our phone sized display can also make us enjoy 4k gaming
da gpu enclosure is prolly worth more than the gpu plus the graphics card, it also takes away the laptops portability which means a desktop would be better value wise
