FX Hybrid Slugs: Extreme Accuracy and Expansion!

- Described as "hybrids" because they span the gap between traditional heavy slugs and pellets - because of their weight they give you velocities similar to pellets but with long-range accuracy and expansion that you only get with slugs.
In this video, we show you how they perform in clay both at high and medium velocity and then we stretch them out to 100 yards to see how they perform in an FX Impact and a RAW HM1000X.
We shot them out of an Impact with a slug liner, but they will also shoot just as well or better out of a standard STX barrel, and they even perform well out of guns with standard choked barrels.

Just ordered the impact mk2 in .35
I’m sure they shoot awesomely, but $14.99 for only 100 hybrid slugs? For 500 slugs that would equal $74.95. For 1000 hybrid slugs that would equal $149.90. Ouch 🤕! Ridiculous 💰..

Please do a video of these being tested in a high power break barrel. I see other people asking if they can shoot it out of there springer, and I’m wondering to. I ordered a gamo swarm magnum and I don’t wanna order such an expensive projectile for them to not work in my gun.

I can't wait to see these come out in .177 i use an FAC (high power impact) but also an incredibly accurate hw100 at sub 12. While these both cover all bases when it comes to pesting I still think there will be a steady market here in europe/UK for the little light slug. While they might not increase our effective hunting range that much at sub 12. The BC will blow 🌬 the pellets performance out the park.
Reading through the comments everyone already beat me to it. Yes we all know these will shoot through $2000 guns with endless adjustments, running $1200 scopes and $300 bipods. I will be impressed when someone proves their claims that they are made to shoot in something most people can afford. Show what they will do out of a Hatsan, Kral or Benjamin.
Think most Hatsans have enough power to shoot the Hybrids well,Benjamin Maurador from what ive seen also shoots slugs good,mite need a tune to give a bit more power.

How about try them in a Springer, or any sub $300 airgun. Not everyone has FX money to sling pellets. I really doubt they would do anything for a QB78 but break out the more affordable rifles and lets see how they perform.

600 fps out of my diana 48. Very tight fit though with some smoke.
Keep this in mind. If you can’t afford to buy a premium pcp air rifle, you will cringe at the price of these babies. $16 per hundred in USA. If we ever saw them in Australia ( which I doubt they would be pushing double this price.

I recently picked up a new RAW HM1000X chassis rifle in .22 loves JSBs monsters but not the 24.8gn NSA slugs as much as it's loving these!! Glad I ordered 2 packs to test at first they didn't group but it being a fairly new rifle but now!! Amazing! Out to 150yrds longest in my record so for. They are shooing 977fps avg.

They are working on .30 cal right now, but we don't have a release date yet.
It would have been nice if you would have shot a 10 shot group with the impact but it's ok. I like the 10 shot groups that you normally shoot. Thank you for shooting a 10 shot with the RAW. Take care Travis if I don't talk to you before see you at RMAC.

Hi just wondering why these fx slugs aren’t tested along side a standard pellet on expansion and grouping 18g and 25g to see the difference ?
I'd like to see a .22LR loaded with those.
Great shooting. But that’s to be expected from a good shot using expensive guns and ammo lol! I agree with a lot of the posts about using these slugs in “regular guns”. A test with several that you stock including Airforce, Gamo, HW, Diana, Beeman Chief etc etc
I shot the .22 cal FX Hybrid in my Marauder and at 25 yards they were shooting sub moa. They shoot as well as the .22 cal Hades. The Hybrid really tore up the two squirrels I shot. Great slug 5 stars.

Stop using highend air rifle everyone is using them in there videos. What we really want to see is the fx hybrid slugs. Being shoot from budget air rifle and mid level. Not everyone can afford an fx or the raw.

Really interested in seeing how these work through my barrel, I'm waiting for the 25 cal to come out. Nice groups at a hundred yards. They are a bit pricey to be taking a chance, but you're never gonna know until you try.
How soon till the 25 cal. Come out ?
They are actually made by rat sniper. The good news they are already available. The bad news is that he is so swamped with orders, that he isn’t taking any more on at this time. I consider here in Australia a zero to bugger all chance of ever seeing them which is a real pity coz they look like the pinnacle of air gun projectiles. ‘Please Santa, I have been REALLY good.

really crank the power up and try out of the AF condor with 24" barrel and new valve.
I'm waiting for my .257 barrel, SHO valve, and 580 cc 4500 psi bottle from talon tunes. have a .22 barel.
@@fredking9118 I was thinking a Texan .257 but changed it back to a .25 condor so I can still turn down the heat, shoot lighter pellets for squirrels and what not.

Just bump the reg and mess with hammer spring mine is shooting 24grains at 850 20 grain slugs at 900

We haven't tested them in that gun yet, but it might be worth giving them a try. It might not get them going quite as fast as they like, but you don't know until you try!
@@airgundepot there has _got_ to be an airgun shop nearby where you can get a springer or gas piston gun, so you can demonstrate whether they work...
Thanks for the review Travis, I am following these slugs with great interest! The hybrids look to be great for pesting but I am a bit concerned about using them for hunting as I would rather my pigeons in edible condition when I retrieve them LOL! I'm just getting into "long range" (75 > 125 yards) shooting and I am thinking that the JSB RD Monsters might be an ideal choice (compromise?) for hunting. Would you please do a side by side comparison (hybrids and RD Monsters) at 25, 50, and 75 yards? I believe that 50 yards (+/- 25 yards) is the range at which most pesting and hunting is done and that would of interest to many people.

@@airgundepot Hey Travis! I am interested in accuracy (always!). Seen lots of videos on the new hybrid slugs but nobody has done a comprehensive test under ideal conditions. For price/availability reasons I'd like to have an alternative to the Hybrids - the JSB RD Monsters are a good possibility as they are about the same weight and have a half decent BC. Think that a rifle could be tuned to shoot both so a side-by-each comparison would be useful. Everybody claims that the Hybrids are "accurate" but don't say how they define "accurate"... would be nice to see some targets. To me (being hunting orientated) the maximum effective range of gun, projectile and shooter is the distance that all shots can consistently be put in a 1 inch circle (minute of a squirrel's head accuracy LOL!). Too cold to run tests here (Ontario, Canada) until spring - would be great if you could shoot some targets for us and see what is possible. Cheers and Merry Christmas! Hank

Will these work in a break barrel or is it a pcp slug only

I think as long as you are getting 850FPS and beyond with a regular pellet
I use a Stoeger ATAC S2 nitro piston (850ft/s) and shot a few (4) of these slugs at 30 yards. The only problem i found was that you need to push the slug into the breech (I used a tool I made). My scope was zeroed at this distance, using the TS22 long range 22 grain pellet. The slugs ended up approximately less than half an inch in line from center to the right (could be a little bit of trigger pull). This is not conclusive, but I will definitely do some more shooting and focus on eliminating trigger pull and hopefully get a better result.

Awesome video. How did these perform out of a stock crown? As in max hammer and .25/.30 Transfer Port with reg set from factory?
So you need a liner for the barrel? How much is that? Pcp riffles already cost as much as regular riffles maybe even more so why not give out price? And 15 bucks for 100 FX is just wants to clean you dry 15 bucks i bet it cost less than 2 bucks to make it.

I just shot them out of a Streamline the other day and got pretty decent results, so you should give them a try.
I must say, Pyramid Air did a much better demonstration and explanation of the differences.
I was hoping you would shut them out of the Streamline because everybody's been asking me about that I ordered some but I don't know when they will get here

No, in fact they seem to shoot better out of the standard barrel. But the 600mm barrel is better than 500mm.

Yes you should be able to I use them in my MK2 700mm .25 sniper FX impact . But also used the .22 in my standard impact with no upgrades it was fine

They will come out with .25 cal slugs, and they should shoot in the Marauder.

In the testing we have done, we have seen some pretty decent accuracy at that power level, at least at 35 yards, but we haven't tested what the expansion is.

Good product BUT, they are a lightweight at 26grns & VERY expensive for 100. Tried them through my FAC FX Maverick .25 at 1050fps & 60ftlb......Better performance from ZAN slugs at 33grns in a pack of 200 for £13. much better.
These are ironically going to be better in guns other than FXs, which use classic barrels. Slugs need to spin to stabilize and the whole point of smooth twist classic was very little spin. I have a Benjamin Discovery that I cannot wait to see results from.
These work really well in my Discovery, which makes no sense, as the discovery does not have a rifled barrel. They flew straight and made nice hole-punches that showed 10 out of 10 didn't tumble. The hollow point seems easily plugged and none of the slugs expanded. The discovery is a low power .22, so I am not terribly surprised at lack of expansion.
@@whiskyguzzler982 Have you replaced the barrel on your Discovery? The factory Discovery barrels ARE most definitely rifled.
Well that proves that a 2000 dollar airgun can print well, (sarcasm). Nice guns dude, but outside of winning the lottery I will probably never own one of these guns used in the test. Soon you all will see that the bread and butter crowd for the airgun industry is beginning to sour towards just another fx video. Good shooting btw!
Some cheap pcp air rifles will shot the fx hybrids in .22 will. Im shooting then at 760 fps from the benjamin kratos. Dime size groups at 50 yards and 190 yards is not problem even at 760 fps.
Those wound channels look impressive but actually mean nothing when shot at such low speeds and especially in a clay medium . I will admit that the expansion is quite large but these tests are meaningless unless you use the appropriate ballistic gel .

We haven't tested them in it yet, but should be able. It is pretty high powered, so it should do well.

Well, there's more going into the production of these than typical slugs. If you need that huge expansion then they'll probably be worth it to you, but they definitely aren't for plinking!
Just keep an eye out on H&N .25 Slugs. FX hybrids are way overpriced.

I have a break barrel nitro piston .22 that is shooting 970-1000 fps. Do you know if a piston driven rifle produces enough energy for slugs to be effective? I am using the JSB Hades and Monster pellets now with great accuracy but have to keep my shots close range unless I am shooting at something very small due to the energy loss.
