I myself have a scx10 2 honcho, now a 4runner 😎, followed your honcho build off videos, only i upgraded everything in one week, i also have a trx4 sport stock other than electronics, seems to do much better than my scx10 2 lol, all in all both great trucks and cant wait to follow this build off series😎
I have a Bronco with alloy beadlocks, 2.2 mud slingers, trx lift kit, +5mm brass hexes, savox 1270tg servo, metal bumpers, and some scale details. The TRX4 is an AWESOME platform. the thing performs amazing right out of the box and it's tough as nails. It could do everything my Wraith could do, and with mods it's even better. It's also cool that there are now many versions to fit many different tastes. I'll have a run video up in the next few weeks once my new scale course is complete. Great series, keep 'em comin'. -"Angry" Dave
I got into scale trucks almost a year ago, and the Sport was my first one. I got it because it was cheap, simple, and if I didn’t like crawling I wouldn’t have spent a lot of money on it. Fast forward to March 2019 and I now have the original TRX4 Kit. Almost a year after my first rig, I’m thinking about getting the Sport Kit, so that is some of why I’m watching this budget build series between you guys.
That was fast Josh. I figured you'd start this series after the Pro-line event. Speaking of budget servos , So far(So far...hahaha)the $50 46kg JX has done really good in my 35 pound BC8 Mammoth. If they brake during the Pro-line event I'll buy some Reef's 555. Oh...there are some steel Chubs and portal covers that are black and lock completely stock if you swap out the shiny hardware for black bolts....and just leave it at that for weight(steel Chubs and portal covers). Really don't need any other weight. Will definitely be watching. See you in a couple of days. Oh...we have 1 Sport , 2 D110's, 1 scratch built TRX4. So , 4 total.
I own a sport kit as well... A great Free mod is to remove the front bumper entirely and replace it with something that allows more clearance. Then... use the front bumper mount in place of the rear bumper mount and flip it upside down. Doing this lifts the rear bumper up, gets rid of the rear hitch, and allows a lot more clearance front and rear for approach angle without dragging the bumpers as easily or the hitch.
Bought a kit for the budget build for my daughter for Proline by the fire. Started early bought the full light kit 400 traxxas servo,Hobbywing AXE with a Spektrum Rugged system. Sorry gonna miss you guys at THE FIRE. Axialfest Maybe.
I have 4 fav is my first, scx 10.2 deadbolt, basically stock minus tire's and strc links. Have 6x6 uni, element Enduro build kit waiting on body, and newest member of the family is trx4 sport kit. Can't wait to see what you have in store
Brass hater! 😜 Right on! This will take us all the way to the end of summer. I don’t know if I’ll be building on mine at the same time, but I do have the Unassembled Kit, which is still in its box. I’m waiting for an opportunity, like the wife taking the kids up to the Grandparents for a few days. I currently have a TRX-4 Defender and a Bronco slider, and just this past week I returned my UMG10 kit for store credit, and have been thinking about paying up and getting a new RTR TRX-4 Blazer (orange).
Excited to watch this build series. I have the TRX-4 Chassis Kit. I removed the diff servos and installed lockers. Also bought the clear Sport body and added a custom paint job.
Have had my Bronco for just over a year, it started out as a stock slider. Now it has brushless, a bit of weight (heavy axle housings and brass covers) and plenty of lights! 😆
Even with the 4wks not dropping 50 thats $700 extra realistically i dont know of many people doing there upgrades this way. However its fun to watch ofcourse not every one is as dedicated like Matt and yourself.🤩👍
I'm starting to build my 5th trx4, I'm thinking im gonna try the builder's kit this go round. I got to the bit about all brass, I have a bronco that's all brass, rc4wd links, sound kit, 6 fans. Heaviest truck I've ever seen. Doesn't perform for poo. But it cool as hell and my favorite truck even if it sucks at crawling now.
I was wondering if you could lower the steering servo change up the body mounts to lower them more and put a G6 body. Low enough that you could cut the G6 body and the shock towers would show. Then put some brace from one tower to another. I think it would be cool.
I recently got a defender which I regret being how top heavy it is but I have added a bit a brass to the front only and also have a pro-line power wagon cab on the way to resolve the top heaviness and over drive gears for the front.
Traxxas is awesome. Love that they sent u the extras. Traxxas has great customer service. I love my trx4. I do believe u have to watch how much weight and were to put it. Looking forward to this series
Yeah i have a trx tactical painted od green. Looking to get a winch for it and a sound kit for it, more to cover the whining of the motor. Any thing else ill have to keep watching. What would be the balance of adding brass to the truck and losing power from the motor. Or just get the aluminum parts.
I have the following Traxxas TRX-4 Tactic along with a Defender body I painted myself & then a Traxxas TRX-4 kit with a Bronco stock body. The next few months I'm gonna get the TRX-4 Sport~!
Can't wait to see this build off. I currently have a trx4 tactical unit but i did remove the lockers and 2sp for when im out camping. Have a ebay bronco chassis on the way planing on doing a SWB trx4 with that one
I have had my TRX4 Discovery for nearly 2 years now. It now has the pro-line Landcruiser body on it. It has had lots of run time and I’m still amazed at its performance
First mods are free mods. Flip the bumper mounts to push the bumpers up and then tuck them in. After that I did od and ud gears. Helped a ton for climbing
Both me and my son have a Defender each and we love them! There is some brass on them 😜 but only portal covers on the front axle and that’s it just to offset the body weight over the rear. Completely agree that brass everywhere isn’t going to help 👍🏻 really looking forward to this build off 😁
I have a trx4 chassis kit ( the full blown one with lockers and 2 speed trans) it has a proline 91 4Runner body on it currently. I just got my sport camper body and narrow inner fenders ( part 8080) and inner fender extension (part 8081) would love to see those used in this series.
I have one TRX4 Sport unassembled kit that i built for my girlfriend. Using all stock Tactic and Axial electronics from my Honcho and a Holmes 21t 550.
I am definitely looking forward to this Budget Build-Off! I have a TRX-4 kit with an Axial Honcho body and cage. I'll be able to borrow from both Build-Off series ;)
Got myself a bronco not too long ago. Only upgrades are tires and wheels and desert lizard shocks, love it so far. Also followed your honcho build got one of those as well gifted that to my wife.
i have trx4 kit with a proline bronco body and your right a little bit of brass can help but to much and your truck starts burns motors fast (speaking out of experience)
I feel like I'm about the only TRX4 owner that doesn't want brass anything on my rig. I have the Bronco. I swapped tires and wheels right off, but other than that all that I plan to swap are the servo and go to a Holmes motor.
Good to see you doing a performance Trx build. Awesome channel you have! Thank you for all the helpful info. I own the TRX-4 Defender, but have shortened the WB to work with Nukizer body. Added some weight but not too much. Running 60/40 front weight biased at a running weight of 7lbs 3oz. Next upgrade od/ud gears
First things first, get rid of those wimpy steel body clips, and replace with brass body clips. Such a game changer, trust me. Very excited to see what you n Matt do with these things! Woowee!
I have the Trx4 chassis kit with a proline 4runner body and I have a trx4 sport kit with a Hobbywing wp1080 esc, Holmes Hobbies 21t trailmaster sport and a Savox 1230 servo
I own a bronco which is now a 91 4runner and love it. Pretty bone stock but runs super well only thing I need to change is the servo... but mine still works.
I've got 2 kits, one for performance and one scale. I have 2 pcs of brass on each. I'm curious to see if you use any and which. Try cutting the stock tires with CI foams.
Trx4 defender with a jconcepts 79 f250 body, 1.9 ssd chrome slotted mags, 1.9 rc4wd ground hawg tires. Castle creations mamba x with a 2850kv slate. And a power hd 23kg servo. Body is painted with spaz stix holographic paint and changes colors in the sun.
Great Josh.... have been looking forward to this - have a Sport RTR with a Holmes Hobbies 12 turn motor, very funn - also have an unassembled Sport kit, and been shopping for upgrades for it the last month... 3560/3150Kw motor Vanguard Axial Will be the power. Jørgen from Denmark 🇩🇰
Two, a Defender that was cannibalized for the axles to put under a hardbody Jeep Mighty FC, and a Sport which has brass portal covers to offset the weight of a Comanche hard body and no stock electronics in either one.
Since we're on the subject of Trx4, are you planning on bringing your mud truck and air ride Bronco to Pro-line BTF? I'd love to see that air ride Bronco work in person.
I have a question to you. Quiet operation. I will to a build either sundero or sport and from what I hear the Element drive train is quiet and smooth out of the box. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I own two TRX4 rigs, and I don’t see the point of brass. The heavier the truck, the more work the drivetrain has to do, the less run time, the hotter it gets, and the more wear and tear on equipment. Just add a couple weights and call it good. It saves time and money in the short and long runs.
Might buy a sport depending on how this goes. Was going to get the gen 8 kit, but we'll see. I'm sure someone will tell me which is the better option. Anyone?
Those three TRX vehicles have huge bodies and the portals create a high COG. So for that reason you normally see more SCX based vehicles at the top of the podium at comps. But any of them can be modified create better performance.
@@HarleyDesignsInc makes sense . Do you know of Any TH-cam video showing the 2 in a scale comp competing against each other ? Only one I know of is the axial fest which only allows axial . Thanks keep up the great work 👍
Praise you for speaking truth about the overuse of brass.
Yep. Amen!
I have a bronco... that air ride is sick!😳😜👍🏽
Gonna be a fun series to follow .
I have two TRX4. The first is a Defender and the second is a TRX4 Sport kit that arrived today. Following your build to get ideas.

I have a nearly stock Defender and I built a kit, it has gone Brushless and is anything but stock. I look forward to this set of videos.
Trx4 Bronco sunset. Minimal brass. And some steel parts from locked up rc. Brushless and a lot of fun.
I HAVE 3,The bronco, Defender and Blazer, Love them all
That was fast Josh.
I figured you'd start this series after the Pro-line event.

I own a Trx 4 Sport and love it!!! My 5 year old is in love with it too!!
I have the defender and a sport kit. Super addicting hobby
Check out the Brazin scale ATL chassis. That's what I'm planning for trx4 portals
I have the following Traxxas TRX-4 Tactic along with a Defender body I painted myself & then a Traxxas TRX-4 kit with a Bronco stock body. The next few months I'm gonna get the TRX-4 Sport~!

Love my traxxas! Great to see a budget build on this rig.
I love the challenges that you and Matt do! The budget build off is the favorite of them. Excited for this series!
I have a stock Trx4 bronco I will soon get some upgrades for it. I love it just the way it is. I will love it even more when I get some upgrade parts
Looking forward to this. I've got the chassis kit made into the defender.
I like that you've added alternatives items in your list. 🙂
i have trx4 kit with a proline bronco body and your right a little bit of brass can help but to much and your truck starts burns motors fast (speaking out of experience)
I feel like I'm about the only TRX4 owner that doesn't want brass anything on my rig. I have the Bronco. I swapped tires and wheels right off, but other than that all that I plan to swap are the servo and go to a Holmes motor.
id love to see the TRX4 run fresh new and at the end of the build-off. not that it matters... thanks for the entertainment.
Brass everything!!
I got an rtr sport, with no brass. Don’t need it and it only puts extra stress on the drive train.
Looking forward to what mods and upgrades you do.

do you have a series when you build a custom scx10 2 from the builders kit? if not id like to see that.
Is the body precut
I have the Trx4 chassis kit with a proline 4runner body and I have a trx4 sport kit with a Hobbywing wp1080 esc, Holmes Hobbies 21t trailmaster sport and a Savox 1230 servo
I own a bronco which is now a 91 4runner and love it. Pretty bone stock but runs super well only thing I need to change is the servo... but mine still works.
I have a defender tx4 and put the full time lockers in. No brass on mine either. Moved the battery down low with some styrene
Going to be a fun series to follow. I have the TRX4 Bronco, Blazer and Sport. I’ll be running a 73 Bronco body on the Sport.
I've got 2 kits, one for performance and one scale. I have 2 pcs of brass on each. I'm curious to see if you use any and which. Try cutting the stock tires with CI foams.

I love mine! It’s never clean, always looks like it needs parts and its awesome. :D This will be a fun build to watch.
Two, a Defender that was cannibalized for the axles to put under a hardbody Jeep Mighty FC, and a Sport which has brass portal covers to offset the weight of a Comanche hard body and no stock electronics in either one.
Josh where did you get the hex drivers you use in the Dewalt gun
I just built my first Trx4. Looking forward to this build off
I own two trx4 sport kits.
I went with a light weight rig on my first one. And the second is mostly stock just with my electronics choice.
Lol then how are they different?
xxx xxx the first one is a lcg light weight chassis. The stock one has the heavy steel chassis
I've got a Trx-4 Bronco. Good luck with the build.
I have the original Defender TRX4 with some upgrades. I'm looking forward to see how these builds go though.
As always, looking forward to another great series. Can't wait to see the outcome.
Currently I Do not own one. lol . But It Is on the wish list. Been into RC cars since I was very young. Looking forward to your videos!
Look forward to seeing this series. Love my sport kit very impressive bit of kit.
Trx4 defender and a trx4 sport kit still in the box
I have a trx4 sport rtr that is brand new I have owned it for 6mth never ran it lol been a sorrca c1 build that's not finished yet
I have a sport and it's been a great truck with minimal upgrades.
Since we're on the subject of Trx4, are you planning on bringing your mud truck and air ride Bronco to Pro-line BTF? I'd love to see that air ride Bronco work in person.
The Bronco is still in progress so it won’t be coming and I didn’t get the Mud Truck repaired in time
@@HarleyDesignsInc Bummer 😞
I have a question to you. Quiet operation. I will to a build either sundero or sport and from what I hear the Element drive train is quiet and smooth out of the box. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
The Element is definitely one of the most quiet trucks available.
Been thinking about getting a TRX4 but I'm so invested in Axial, I'm not sure I can mentally handle another rig. :)
I got a trx-4 Defender and got a dx5 rugged running it
just find this Traxxas TRX-4 Sport this year in 2021 love it but can"t aford this truck so going build from ground up, on a 60 dollar month budget.
I have a trx4 sport and I love it!
Longer shocks. Cheap ebay beadlock rims. Aluminum servo arm. Body. Done.
Negative on the longer shocks.
Own 2 defenders & my dad has a defender as well love them more than my scx10 but I do see where you come from about the portals
Thank god!! I’m tired of seeing all the traxxas fans putting tons of brass to trucks.
I own two TRX4 rigs, and I don’t see the point of brass. The heavier the truck, the more work the drivetrain has to do, the less run time, the hotter it gets, and the more wear and tear on equipment. Just add a couple weights and call it good. It saves time and money in the short and long runs.
I have a trx4 defender and just got my fiance a trx4 sport a couple weeks ago.
Do those futaba air receivers work with the 3pv? Anyone?
Might buy a sport depending on how this goes. Was going to get the gen 8 kit, but we'll see. I'm sure someone will tell me which is the better option. Anyone?
Harley out of the box which is the most capable box stock the TRX 4 defender/bronco/chevy or one of the Axial scx10 11?
Those three TRX vehicles have huge bodies and the portals create a high COG. So for that reason you normally see more SCX based vehicles at the top of the podium at comps. But any of them can be modified create better performance.

With all the 3D stuff available you can do lots of things on these trucks!
I have a TRX-4 Bronco and I just bought a Sport Kit version my GF has a defender :)
I have the bronco with mamba x slate motor and a savox servo.
I have the Bronco and a Defender both modified to brushless
What was the upgrade for week 1?
It was just the intro week and we covered the pre installed items a little more.
I’m hoping for lots of fab work because you can do so much with $50 worth of 3/16 dom tube and solid rod
I’ll probably do some but not a ton because I like to keep these series more friendly to almost any RC person.
I have a sport with the traxx!
1 trx4 sport and one bronco. More a fan of the simplicity of the sport.
Trx4 chassis kit with proline Wrangler body
I have the trx4 chassis kit with a bronco body on it
It gonna be épic, looking forward to the buildoff
Thank you!!!
Been waiting for for this to start. I have a sport looking for ideas that I can do to mine
