Agreed. I don't want to work on rust/salt/corrosion/neglect workshop items on a slab out in the weather, but it's better than what he WAS doing, which was working on muddy grass. He's come a long way but man I'd charge for the need to abuse my body like this.

A big Patio umbrella would be perfect for the mobile tool cart, it will not just keep rain off it but will keep your tools from becoming hot irons in the summertime.

If it's any consolation for the future, airbag studs are designed to shear off by deliberately overtightening (over torque) them. If an airbag is not going to be reused and is going to be replaced, the old studs will simply shear off allowing bag replacement in under 5-minutes. I've done both my Freightliner and International trucks this way as well as both trailers. I'm glad Jerry decided on replacing slack adjusters and brake chambers as those babies were old, damned old. I only use Gunite slack adjusters and brake drums on all my equipment with Meritor shoes. That is a beautiful camper bus, can't wait to see the inside of it. Mike's Wanderlodge was also exceptionally nice.

  • @neil6212

Given the price and reputation of the Wanderlodge, I'm amazed at how crummy the chassis engineering is! As an example, mounting of the air bags, and use of what is essentially air hose for compressor coolant! Forty years ago, when I worked for Trailways, we made up our hoses in house, and used the stainless steel jacketed hose with the Teflon inner. Good forever. Also used a special hose for the compressor output. As I remember, the MCI and Eagle used the exact same part.

Scott when working on brake pots you may find it easer to get the Clevis of the shaft like This pushes the shaft out it all the with shop air in most cases this holds the shaft from Turing. If you do this will it is still on the truck or in your case on the buss you can now heat the clevis to a nice glow and it will come off very easily. I have worked on a lot of rusty trucks in my time the torch is your best friend every time when fighting rust. Keep up the good work.

  • @jonjacob1962

Get you some wider, thicker tires to widen the track a little and give you a little more cushion for rocks and shit and that cart will be perfect. Lol. My step father used to race at dirt tracks and he did something fairly similar except he just welded the axels of an old wagon directly to the tool chest. Then he used some smaller lawn tractor tires and wheels. Worked like a champ. Lol.

  • @archstanton9206

That is a very nice Bus and you guys are doing a nice job on it. That lug mismatch situation is, as you said...not good. If you get in a jam and have to do one on the side of the road that is one thing, but 3 on one wheel...no thanks.
I have been shopping a new bottom roll cab tool box for 5 months or so, and since Snap On, Mac and the others want good used truck money, and the used ones I have seen are usually beat to death, I have looked hard at the US General line..(just a guy with a at home shop and projects, and I help certain people).
The US General is, imho, better than the competitors at the big box home improvement stores.
I am going to buy here shortly. I am tired of having tools all over the shop, my current top and bottom roll are simply full beyond full. Looking at the 72x22.
Once that is sorted I may copy your rolling tool cart idea. Here I would probably put "off road" wheels and tires on it, I've done so to a floor jack and it makes life much better when working outside on uneven ground.

  • @DomingoDeSantaClara

I feel your pain getting to some of those awkward bolts,I used to build Scania coaches,we would get the chassis to a driveable state then send them off to the body builders. When they came back for pre delivery we would go over the whole thing and re-torque everything, but of course the body builders gave no consideration for maintenance access which could be a nightmare for us. Much worse for you guys dealing with rust as well.

  • @willb3018

Love this channel. I have that HF cart...as do many others of course. Those HF US General tool carts are a great value...maybe the best single item from a value perspective that HF has. For that matter, the whole US General line is a great value. IMHO, no one matches the quality of that cart at that price. Great idea for getting that cart around in this work environment. Just keep it under 70 and you'll be fine.

Scott, great video as usual, very in- formative. These coaches need some TLC underneath by their owners to wash off road salt and grime. This would make your maintenance job much easier. An old concrete cleaner for oil used to be TIDE in powder form. Wet the cement apply the TIDE and use a scrub brush with a handle. DAWN is probably good also.

But the co-worker who is younger than my car just typed "hub cap" into the search box and ordered what was there. I have no idea what they actually fit but they look just like the axle covers at 18:58. And yes, I did get the customer the wheel covers she actually needed and wanted.

They make 401 and 498 shank bits and quick change collars. A lot of Mobile parks have age restrictions. That wanderlodge would be refused... yup...friend has one and yes they check for age.. at parks...... always get a new one.... sad reality...

Wouldn't it be cheaper to air hammer all the nuts off and replace them? Time and effort saved would more than be made up?

I am surprised that axles on that little cart would support the tool cabinet plus tools.

Scott I would question that. I have gone through about 10 wheels like that on my garden carts. They all fail where the bearing race / hub connects to the very thin wheel metal. I would weld the “other side” as I eventually did. It means you can’t take them apart to fix punctures , but the only one that gave me an issue I just filled with slime.
