Our very first cruise was on carnival and on the second day, our cabin smelled like smoke. We alerted our cabin steward. He came down and acknowledged it. They changed all the linens, shampooed the carpet and did a thorough cleaning. No problem after that. I’m a non-smoker and smoke actually makes me sick or I probably would have not minded. They took care of it and we didn’t smell it again for the duration of the cruise. I wish people had consideration for others when they decide on breaking the rules.
Same on the Carnival Sunrise a couple of years ago. Called service desk, security came. Walked in our room and said nothing we can do, we can’t go into the next room just because we smell pot smoke. I answered ok for one thing I can smell it and I don’t want to, second, it’s not permitted, 3rd is that smoking of anything is not permitted in a room or even a balcony because of a risk of fire. I don’t want to be out at sea on a burning ship. So what’s up? No reply, just shrugged their shoulders and left. If it happens again I will go above there heads and see what happens. The Princess cruise cancellation, just not a good substitution, a full refund as well as full refund of flight costs as long as the passenger returns to their home airport within 2 days of the expected cruise departure. Princesses compensation is a joke.
I never thought of Princess as Super Cheap, until now. I have over 100 Princess cruises, because I like Princess. But a 25% cruise credit is FAR below fair in this case. Outrageous.
We were on Carnival Paradise last year and when we returned to our cabin in the early evening, upon entering, the room reeked of pot. It was so strong that I immediately left. I found a room steward and asked them to go into the room. We had an adjoining room with strangers and couldn't tell if the smell was coming in under the door. No one could figure out where the smell was coming from. I was traveling with my younger granddaughter and there was no way we could stay in the room. Carnival did nothing and we left the room for the evening. When we returned several hours later, the smell was gone. If this is happening because of the ventilation system, Carnival needs to do something. The last thing we need is for our kids to get high and suffer.
We were on the Carnival Glory in september and the smell of cigarettes in our cabin was badddd. We would rather sleep in the hallway.... Security and customer service came down and said it wasnt that bad... and that all the rooms on our level (8) were probably all experiencing the same smell. They professed they couldnt move us because the ship was full. 3 hrs later they "found" a new room for us one level down. That cabin didnt smell like smoke when we went in there... but within 12 hrs in this new room... it smelled like cigarettes... My husband stuck a dyer sheet in the vent... that helped a little.... :( we are switching to Disney....
Same thing happened to me on rcc. We called 3 times security said they can do nothing give. They were even caught smoking on the deck and rcc did nothing. They only cared about the money they make not me having asthma. There were several complaints on our deck about this guy smoking because you can smell that skunk in the halls. They did. Nothing. I complained to security again befor we left and was told they. Have to catch them smoaking it. They do nothing.
Hello My first time here! I really liked your channel. I fly from the west coast to Florida. We fly 2 days early just to be safe. I would be awful to plan and already be at the port area learning the cruise is canceled! Wow Airfare and hotels are so expensive, not to mention the disappointment.
I absolutely hate smelling smoke in my cabin. Weed smoke or cigarette smoke, they’re both awful. I was on Carnival Glory in June, it’s probably just time to retire that ship because all you could smell was weed or sewage, it was alternating. I will say that on the occasion that Carnival can figure out who’s smoking weed, they take swift strong action. On Celebration last year there was a guy walking around selling weed, it was crazy.
my wife and i were non-smokers before we went on our carnival cruise. now i am up to 3 packs a day. also smelled a ton of the ganja. we are now both in cessation sessions.
We have quit cruising Carnival just because of this. Not paying for a balcony that I cannot use. Keeps happening, and they always say we cant tell where it is coming from. I know they don't want problems and want tips, but sorry... the stewards know!
Right, I dont know why people are complaining. It's kinda expected at this point with Carnival. If you don't want the Carnival type people, then don't sail Carnival.
On our recent cruise out of New Orleans we smelled marijuana when were close to the smoking area. I hope that Carnival and ALL cruise lines crack down on this.
I thought Carnival was supposed to smell like weed. Smelled it on RC but I don’t have a problem with it as long as it’s kept to themselves. Rather deal with potheads than drunks honestly.
Potheads are way better than drunks and even cigarette smokers. The reason nobody can seem to track down who smoked the pot, is cause pot smokers are usually very discreet and polite. Cugarette smokers will blow it right in your walk path and let you walk through it.
Nicotine is also drug, but it’s tolerated in certain areas that I have to walk through. It’s awful. I think pot smells better than cigarettes. I did smell cigarettes from my balcony and called to report it. It stopped.
We just got off of a cruise on regal princess out of Southampton England. I was disappointed in seeing all of the deferred maintenance on that ship. , burnt out, lightbulbs all over the ship and most of them are in places that could’ve easily been reached with a step ladder. One of the elevators did not work. The lights did not come on all the time and the staff were Less than happy to see the passengers. It seemed. Our take away with princess regal and maybe princess in general is that we will not be sailing with princess again. There are too many options out there to choose from.
I don’t think that’s limited to Princess. Some maintenance was lacking on RCC’s Navigator of the Seas when we went in August. The staff also seemed to be just going through the motions. The only people who were extremely hospitable to us were our Main dining room waiters (whom we tipped well on the 1st night) & the Suite Lounge host. Everyone else was just meh. We even slipped $100 to our cabin steward on the first day of our 3 day sailing and he didn’t even seem to appreciate it 🤷🏼♀️ I don’t know if it was just this particular cruise, but honestly the vibe of the staff was a major turn off. We might try Regent or Oceania next. I want a truly luxurious experience. Especially when it comes to service.
In June 2022 we experienced the same weed issue on Carnival Sunrise and stopped cruising Carnival. The Lido deck was filled with weed smokers. The woman in the next door cabin smoked so much that it filled the hallway and we called security everyday because she wouldn’t stop smoking. She even walked past our door and kept trying to yell through the door at us. The sad part about it is on debarkation morning her 12 year old son went into cardiac arrest and died, but was luckily revived by the ship doctor in the hallway.
I cruise Carnival ALOT.... always 7+ days. It seems about when I hear of these PARTY CRUISE HAPPENINGS seem to be on the shorter cruises and especially on the east coast!
I did not know that Karen’s gather on cruises. Everything is not aceptable and way too much of an offense. If everything bothers you, stay in your house and do not have to wait for compensation on the thing that you desided it bother you.
Smoking of any substance is not permitted in state rooms for a reason. Mainly fire risk and it also raises costs to the cruise line for additional cleaning. Another good reason is the smoke travels and why should I or anyone have to put up with someone else’s crap? 😊And I’m not being a “Karen!”
It seems to me that the last several cruise news stories that have come out are more about Royal Caribbean and Princess than any other cruise lines. I follow several other bloggers regarding Cruise news. I have reservations actually about sailing on Royal Caribbean cruise lines because of all the negativities that have recently been published. Maybe there was maybe there wasn’t a disclosure as a result from the settlement of the lawsuit. However one looks at it, so much for freedom of speech. My wife and I are casual cruisers, once a year or sometimes twice a year. We both work normal jobs and don’t have the luxury of traveling or cruising full time for a living. But again when we get the chance, we usually go through Carnival cruise lines. We like the value and their larger ships. I’m sure if one digs deep enough, they can find fault with all the cruise lines in one form or another.
Indeed. It will never be high on anyone’s legislative agenda but I think consumer protections in many countries have fallen behind the rapid expansion of these companies. I vehemently disagree. I’m not a smoker, nor will I ever be, but I would gladly take the smell of cigarettes or cigars over weed 🤢
I would hate that smell! Never had that problem on Carnival.
If you have purchased insurance through the cruise line, how does that come into play when they cancel your cruise? Just wondering.
