- In June 2023, I solo hiked the historic Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island, New York. My route started and finished at the Todt Hill Road entrance right off Richmond Road. There are several short intertwining routes, so choose the path you wish to explore. I stopped to take in some of the graves sites of some notable residents along the way (a more in-depth bio of their lives is below) although several more historical figures are laid to rest at Moravian Cemetery.
00:00 Introduction

04:40 Charles Scorsese
05:54 Thomas Bilotti
08:20 John Merven Carrere
09:48 Frank Cali

This is an ambient film without dialog. Keep Exploring!

Alice Austen (1866-1952) was an American photographer whose work captured the essence of everyday life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Known for her keen eye and progressive views, Austen documented a wide range of subjects, from landscapes and street scenes to portraits and intimate glimpses into the lives of ordinary people. Her groundbreaking contributions to photography have earned her a well-deserved place among the great pioneers of the medium.
Charles Scorsese (1913-1993) was an American actor known for appearing in several films directed by his son, Martin Scorsese. Born and raised in New York City, Charles Scorsese's distinctive character and presence brought depth and authenticity to his roles. His performances in films such as "Mean Streets" and "Goodfellas" showcased his talent and contributed to the overall richness of the storytelling.
Thomas Bilotti (1940-1985) was an Italian-American mobster who became associated with the Gambino crime family. Born in New York City, Bilotti rose through the organization's ranks, becoming a trusted enforcer and bodyguard for Gambino family boss Paul Castellano. Bilotti's loyalty and reputation for ruthlessness earned him a feared reputation within the criminal underworld. Unfortunately, his life was cut short in a tragic turn of events. In 1985, Bilotti was gunned down alongside Castellano outside Sparks Steak House in Manhattan in one of the most infamous mob hits in New York City history.
John Mermen Carrere (1858-1911) was an American architect known for his influential contributions to Beaux-Arts architecture. Born in New York City, Carrere co-founded the renowned architectural firm Carrère and Hastings, which played a significant role in shaping the urban landscape of the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His legacy inspires architects and enthusiasts alike, as his buildings stand as enduring symbols of architectural excellence and the Beaux-Arts movement.
Frank Cali (1965-2019), also known as "Franky Boy," was an Italian-American mobster who served as the boss of the Gambino crime family. Born in New York City, Cali rose through the organization's ranks with a reputation for being low-key and discreet. Cali's leadership brought a more secretive and less flashy approach to the Gambino family, focusing on strengthening its power and maintaining a low profile. Unfortunately, his life ended abruptly when he was fatally shot outside his home on Staten Island in 2019.
James Mutrie (1851-1938), also known as "Smilin' Jim" or "Gentleman Jim," was an American baseball player, manager, and pioneer in the sport. Mutrie made his mark primarily as a manager in the early days of professional baseball. He was instrumental in the success of the New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) during the late 19th century, leading the team to multiple National League pennants and the 1888 World Series championship.
Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794 - 1877) was an American business magnate and one of the most prominent figures of the Gilded Age. Known as the "Commodore," Vanderbilt amassed an immense fortune through his ventures in shipping and railroads, becoming one of the wealthiest individuals in American history.
