New surf fisher here, I was having such a though time learning this from other TH-cam videos. You’re method and explanation of this knot really helped me. Thank you!
Great video Captain. Clear & concise. Your video is one of many I have watched over the last few months but the difference is that you stress the importance to moisten the line & actually do it on camera. Many People who watch these types of videos are perhaps new to the sport and many may not realise that if you don't moisten the line before you tightening up will cause the line to loose up to 60% of its original strength. The amount of friction caused by not using lubrication is so important yet other so called experts fail to mention it at all. So Captain full marks to you and your excellent video.....
@@FishingLongIsland Right on, im on the opposite coast in Oregon and tired of buying drop rigs so i will defiantly be using this knot very soon for Redtail surf perch and whatever bottom fish attacks my bait. Again Thank You ( : urs was the easiest to learn from.
@@FishingLongIsland RED line is awesome, much more easy to see than clear mono. But if you had a large piece of black oak tag on the table it would stand out great!.
Great video. Any hints for varying the loop size correctly? Often I try to make a bigger loop and it ends up smaller than I wanted or when I try to make a small loop it's even smaller than I wanted. Thanks
Lorne Hargis make a big loop before the twist. Once you put loop through the twist, pull it a little n hold it snug. Now pull down on both ends till knot snugs up.
@@FishingLongIsland thank you Capt. I have tied several different size loops and I think my problem was pulling too quickly, I slowed down and kept the loop in my teeth, no problem. In the padt sometimes the loop would even slip out. Appreciate the help. Tight lines.
@@FishingLongIsland I would be remiss if I also did not comment on twisting the loop so it bends up or down and the hook placement. Great tip. Thank you
No wonder I struggled, I've been making them 16 loops by accident. Thought I was doing 8 but spun It twice as much. Make 5 double dropper loop bottom rigs with 16 loops each today...
any workaround if the dropper loop is too big for the eyelet? like having a 50lbs mono with a size 1 circle hook but dang eyelet is just too small.if you have a video here can you send me the link. please
Add a twist to the loop. It’s even better I think the twisted dropper loop is much stronger and helps stop line twist. And you can switch out hooks and sinkers quick. Is the same thing, except you twist your loop Here’s is an explanation th-cam.com/video/4Uw5eKND8Pg/w-d-xo.html
I see these pre-made ones that are metal its the crappie rig. Do you think its better to make it with mono since the fish can see the metal rigs better?
On the small loop you mentioned you could tie a leader to it. How would you do that? I have a hooks with line already on it from store how so I tie it to the loop?
You would do loop to loop. Pass the loop from the pre-tied hook over the loop from your line coming from the rod. Now take the hook and put it through the loop coming from the rod. Pull all the hook line through the loop from the rod and a loop to loop not will form. I believe I have it it another video. I will look for you.
@@FishingLongIsland I understand it's a dropper knot, but it is made very similarly to a blood knot in that you embrace two 'lines' in a twist and then, unlike a blood knot you take the end, going the same direction, through the opening you created. By the way... nice content on youtube.
Sorry for the negative comment Fishing Long Island I was just frustrated to discover that some of my favorite knots just kept breaking. Bye bye clinch knot, and others.
This knot WILL pull through when pulling the loop itself. It happens every time I tie this exactly as shown in this and every other drop loop video that shows the very same thing. Doesn't work as advertised. I'll tie this exactly, and pull it through every single time.

Monique Ashby watch this video at the end it explains what I just wrote to you. th-cam.com/video/G5n_EYd2HYU/w-d-xo.html
Also learn to tie a perfection loop. This is what you use in the loop to loop or "handshake" loop connection. Good luck.
How strong is the hook connection, when threaded on like that? Has anybody tested that?
I don’t have issues. I use it all the time.
Awesome 👌
Thank you 🙏🏻

this is like a modified blood knot?
It’s a dropper loop. Blood knot ties two lines together

I am watching your video..and l' ll know how to make double leader.
Mas Topo Mancing thank you for watching. Glad to hear it helped you out.
Are we supposed to leave the drool on it?
That's extra. LOL Yeah sorry about that but gotta lubricate ..
No worries buddy thaks verry informative 👍🍻
Why make the branch line twice bigger than the main line, it should be the other way around.
Depends on how far you want your hooks out. I like the further away from main line for a fluke rig I make.
why is my dropper loop going away when i pull both ends?
Hold the loop with your teeth while you start the pull once it starts snugging down then you can let go and moisten the knot
