      Hey Luis, thank you, I think you were the one that asked before about the ball hone. This is about all I use them for, other than if you don't need to bore and just a quick hone to seat the new rings.

    Hi Dale, nice work and some great info! Learning something new every time. Mostly steps that I forget to do at times. I did manage to get the upgrades done on the street bikes so now I can get back on the TS400. Have a great day and stay safe!

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Dean, the armature is fine, it's the stator that seems to not be isolated on the positive brushes, when it cools off some I think I have a spare one or at least I have a bike that runs, I can compare readings to. Just ordered some new brushes from your country, seems a strange size for anything here in the US.

    Another great video, thank you. Such a great resource for a classic 2 stroke newbie like myself.
    You pace the work at a speed that allows viewers to absorb the information and cut unnecessary parts like the entire barrel painting, great editing.
    I particularly benefited from the honing process as I have a ball hone on order and would not necessarily have thought about reversing the hone.
    I'm inspired to build a crank stand and fabricate a bottle jack press, honestly, I cannot see myself doing a worse job than the previous owner.
    I have a backlog of your posts to watch, thanks again for being such a great mentor.

      Thank you for the kind words, John, I am glad these videos are helpful, that was sure my intent. These machines are really pretty simple and don't take a lot of special tools to maintain. it seems your plating supply might have a current limit that you could use to energize the windings. an incandescent light bulb works well also.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This was the craze back in the day, it was said you could use one hole for a spare plug, but I never thought that was a good idea since it would be fouled by the time you need it. Most used the extra hole for a compression release to aid in starting or for engine braking. Only one spark plug sparked at a time, on these models anyway. There were some Spanish bikes that had dual plugs that both fired at the same time, and I sure other manufactures did too.

      Thanks Allah, man those RD60s are cool bikes, would like to find one myself. I really think a lot of parts can be found at your dealer or you can mail order them from RockymountainATV/MC.com I get some stuff from Ebay and some motorcycle salvage yards; I have one close to me that has lots of parts... Bikeboneyard.com you can look their phone number up and call them also. I get most of my nuts, screws and bolts from Grainger.com, gaskets if Yamaha doesn't make them any more you my try K S gaskets, they are online also. The oil/fuel line I use is Tygon and I get it from Amazon, I use mostly 3/16, but also keep some 1/4 and 1/8 on hand. Got a ball hone recommendation? Im only gonna hone 125/175 so i was thinking i would need about a two and 3/4 hone to bridge between 56 and 68mm. Would that still do a 125?

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think so David, I can't remember what they recommend but they have to have some preload on the balls to function, I know they are expensive, but I really think you will need two hones. Take a look at Flexhone.com I think they will tell you how much larger the hone will need to be to function correctly.

    I noticed the Ford Type F atf, I used to use it in my rd350 transmission/banshee trans with no problems , until the price got to be more then motor oil so I switched to basic 10w30 but the oil these days with all the additives seem to make the clutch slip a wee bit under powerband, what do you use for trans oil in these Yamaha 2strokers? Thx, Kevin

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Kevin, I know a lot of folks have used ATF in bike transmissions without any issues, I have never been an advocate of it, it just does not have the lubricating qualities for bearings that oil has. ATF is more for friction on clutch plates and hydraulic applications like automatic transmissions of course. For these old bikes I run the most inexpensive petroleum base 10/30 oil that I can find, normal I get it from NAPA. No synthetic or semi-synthetic oils, they will cause clutch slipping. The last 5-quart bottle I got was on sale for 16.99 just a couple months back. Just my 2 cents.
