    Exactly the information that I've been looking for. Who wants to type all of that stuff in every time they want to play a game? Not me! :)

    Exactly what I was looking for. This will save all that manual entry each time I want to run my old DOS versions of Doom etc. Thanks! 👍🏻

    Dude you are the man!!! I've been watching other videos on how to do this and they just confuse the hell out of you. I wish I would have found the video about six hours ago! This video was extremely helpful. Cheers!

    For everyone struggling with the error "Directory does not exist", when setting up the custom config file DON'T FORGET to put the directory you want in quotation marks if there are spaces in it!
    Example: mount C "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\OREGON"

    • @mgpmbass3616
      @mgpmbass3616 ปีที่แล้ว

      "'s don"t work. It still throws a "Directory doesn"t exist" error

    I have a question; I'm trying to modify an existing .conf file (dosbox_quake_single.conf) that has a menu system inbuilt for a game selector for a non-GOG set of DOS games. I know all of the directories for the games I want to choose from, and I have everything set up the way that I'm pretty sure it should go:
    _:label_
    _@echo off_
    _CONFIG -set "cycles=20000"_ (or w/e, if necessary)
    _cls_
    _cd \DIRECTORY_
    _GAME.exe_
    _exit_
    for each game. It auto-mounts C: and D: (I have some DOS games that require a CD to be in the drive) when it loads the config, changes to C:\, displays the menu and asks you to input an option. However, when I press the corresponding option, it runs straight through to the
    _:exit_
    _exit_
    option. I know 'cause I inserted a pause command into the exit subroutine, and it goes straight to that. However, there is a set of
    _if errorlevel_ n _goto label_
    commands, so, it shouldn't just go straight to the exit subroutine, right?

    If i install the files of like doom from the web would i be able to make a shortcut of that through dosbox?

    • @digitalpalettemedia
      @digitalpalettemedia  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on where you install them. I mentioned the location I did since it was just simple for me. Also, make sure no files are missing.

    Sir,I have a problem.
    I have made a shortcut of my game using this conf method.
    The problem is that I have saved a conf file.
    Last lines were we write mount lines ,I have written the mount drive and the game new just how you thought.but now I have save this conf file and the dos box and made a install package.now while installing if I change the path the dos box will not able to find the game and conf file. Please tell me what do

  • @zg3671

    Do the game files have to be in the C drive, or can they be placed in a desktop folder, and loaded from there?

    • @zg3671
      @zg3671 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@digitalpalettemedia thanks. I'm only playing treasure math storm 1992, so I'll probably just use the c drive path since it's the shortest. Thanks for the response! 😁

    if anyone else is having an issue where no commands are auto given to dosbox using the shortcut, dont forget the hyphen before conf, i followed the instructions on this video a few times and took an idea from another video that didn't help much and got it to work.

    hi 8 yrs later.... how can I use this concept in Retropie?

    • @digitalpalettemedia
      @digitalpalettemedia  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not familiar with Retropie personally, but I checked the official documentation and this page has a tutorial on how to get each game running in the same way, just configured for your situation. retropie.org.uk/docs/PC/ - at the time of posting this it is the second link under the tutorials section. I hope this helps!

    I cant make that file cfg help

  • @Abrimaal
    @Abrimaal 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Simply. Save config file from DosBox when a game is loaded in full screen.
    New shortcut. Paste in shortcut location:
    D:\path\DOSBox.exe -conf D:\path\altered.conf
    This is only an example. You must know the location of DOSBox and config files.

    Hey I followed the steps but my dosbox prompt is not showing anything

    • @mattmetschan1652
      @mattmetschan1652 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh no not at all! I followed all the steps except I configured auto cycles in the config differently and a few other things and the first time I was making my config file it asked me after I created it on what program I wanted to use for this file and I selected notepad and I wrote .cfg when I renamed it and it gave me the config file except the name was not MECH2.cfg it was just MECH2. The only other thing it could be is the way I wrote the target for the shortcut. Mechwarrior 2 is the one in question here

    • @mattmetschan1652
      @mattmetschan1652 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah it still showed up as a notepad with all the stuff. to answer the second part of your question, I am using cue file for my game and I think I did the target similar to yours. dont want to keep you up but what time zone are you? I am pacific time

    • @mattmetschan1652
      @mattmetschan1652 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually switched over to just putting all my stuff on one dosbox prompt since I think that is easie for me

      Hey man I tried this again and it actually worked! This is way better than doing it all on one dosbox! This video after watching it a 2nd time worked! Thanks!

  • @bland9876

    If only exiting the game would also exit dosbox so I would not have to type exit everytime

    Or if you're someone who has 3 slave Drives in which it's never to be stored in your master Drive, It will be whererever the Dos Box Directory is made. I personally Never put anything Other than required System files on my master, the rest go on the other 3 drives. I have the Orginized for the most part of Games, Captures and JUNK
