Thanks for the quick reviews. It was entertaining to watch you speed through the games and hear some thoughts on all of them. Once you recover in a few months, you could do it again with a fresh batch of games. 🤣
@@thepudgyninjait’s his job to review games, which is not the same thing as playing them. He’s running the entire dice tower, scheduling conventions, reviews, retreats, and cruises. It is impressive!
@thedicetower it works as a quick "here's our initial thoughts and why". A lot of those games don't need a review now. You saying it's awful and you couldn't stand it says plenty.
Actually very useful for wanting to find something new but you don’t know what. I now have a list of what to keep my eye out for/ do some more research on. Thanks definitely appreciate this before Christmas.
No for me! There is a lot but you don't have to (and can't) play them all. I wouldn't want there to be only 50 movies coming out every year as an example... Play what you like and now you have more options!!
@@SAUPAYANMAZUMDAR I’ve been gaming now heavily since 2008. I love the hobby, but I’ve reached a point where I have a great game in nearly every genre, so not much replacement happens. I did buy ticket to ride legacy this year, as well as dune imperium. Bought pandemic legacy season zero as well. I’ve just reached a point where most games I think “yeah.. but I have another game that does that and I enjoy it just fine”.
thanks Tom! As an experienced gamer who knows your style and what I like, this was actually very useful. You said just enough about each game for me to do deeper research, or mostly not.
I’d love a “top 3” from a list that long of what you’d recommend people look into more if they have similar taste to yours - if you ever do this style of video again, just quick at the end.
Thanks for the video! I found myself very interested in a bunch of them. It was fast but it felt like every game had at least a thoughtful and sincere phrase.
I watched this video at 2x speed. So technically that's 50 reviews in 7 minutes :) City of the Great Machine is a very good game, but there are definitely usability problems. "Alpaca" has elements of take's that, for example when you steal cards from your opponent.
agreed this is a pretty great format actually. maybe if just a bit less breathless with just room for one or two more ideas about each game, there are a lot of great thoughts packed in here tho!
The amount of new games can be overwhelming. My son and I have linited ourselves to 3 categories: once a year, the very best (this year Ark Nova); war games by our favourite designers (Thompson and Benjamin); and old second hand games that have been traded in, that are cheap and in good condition, but have gone out of favour. This way we have great fun picking and choosing, and then playing
Always fun to watch Tom do reviews, glad to hear him being critical. one of my problems with the board game community is the FOMO BUY NOW! mentality. nobody can afford nor should they try to keep up with buying all of the games on the market.
Other than the "hard to see" aspect of City of Great Machine, anything else you found off with it? I bought it and excited to finally get it to the table. Reminds me of The Others, Attack on Titan, Not Alone vibes.
I haven't had difficulty with icons or anything. It's easier to learn and play than it appears. Now that I think about it, another player couldn't tell the difference between major and minor districts, at first. They are clearly distinct though.
Yeah, i had a feeling that's how you'd feel on Age of Comics. It was one of my "most anticipated" and i do like it, but it's way more basic than even i thought it would be. It's also the rare case in which i'd say you really do need the "Collector's Editon" with the additional modules. Without throwing a few modules it'll get stale pretty quick. Still looking forward to a full review of it though.
@@grog3514I just hope that there will be someone from DC more favorable to this game, I know that many people are influenced by those reviews and I don’t want them to skip this one without even playing it.
I think he liked it, but didn’t love it, which is fine. I’ll still wait for the full review from the rest of the team. I quite enjoyed it myself, but yeah, I’ve seen a bunch of mixed or lukewarm reviews and I think the game is better than that.
I liked Council of Shadows at first, but then I played with someone who didn't care about the costs of the cards, just the effect. With that strategie he conquered all the best planetary systems, gtade colonies, got first player every turn and crushed me. Haven't played it since.
This kind of review style works fine for bad or mediocre games, but the ones in here he says are good, it just leaves me wanting to know more about why. Not exactly selling me on them if I don't learn anything about them; I'm more likely to remember them as something that wasn't worth the time for a full review, lumped in with a pile of 40-ish other games that weren't worth talking about.
That was useful, don't feel you have to do full reviews of every game, want the interesting ones, the brilliant ones, the ones with buzz and the odd terrible one.if you just added your score out of 10 on the screen to this video (obviously hard to remember) then this would have been perfect and is a great catch up mechanism
Ah I backed Pueblo 😢 Shame that once again Mojito Stufios seems to do a good job of making a game look good for the crowdfunding and then do a terrible job afterwards with lots of component issues
It's not "Geroni-moo" it's obviously "Geronimooooooo..." with the o drawn out. They just cut it off at two o's. It's also based on one of the most common urban legends. Lemmings don't actually jump off cliffs.
8:46 pretty sure it's not "Geroni-moo" like a cow moo-ing, but just Geronimo with a sustained "o" because they're falling. Still, bad/unclear choice for a title.
