I was so gald to have kickstarted this. My friends and I have all been digging it for the last couple months.
gald you liek it
This is probably my favorite game of 2024, and I didn't expect it at all going in. Such a pleasant surprise
No one discussed the cooperative mode! It’s quite good!
I love Endeavor Age of sail - it’s a top 5 game for me, this one is unique enough to keep both - I love the exploration too. It’s awesome
The box inserts, and components in general, somewhat thematic. They did cardboard sleeves instead of the usual plastic lids because they wanted to put zero plastic in a game about ocean conservation.
I have no problem storing vertically. This is one of the few inserts I’ve kept.
Yeah, I don't get this complaint either. I've had zero issue storing the deluxe version vertical.
Dice Tower also kind of missed the point of the paper sleeves: This entire production is paper and wood. My copy didn't even have shrink wrap, just a brown paper wrap. It's entirely plastic free and that should be applauded.
@@Piataagree on all points
Easily my game of the year 2024. Can't wait until they come out with expansions.
Endeavor Deep Sea is super good.
I've bought this for the Cooperative version and I'm NOT disappointed!! The game is great, and the mechanisms and the theme feel much more like a coop game than competitive. You get to be strategic with what objectives each player will focus on, and the actions of helping each other really help with that. It's great, I never even played it competitive and we already did half the missions. On harder difficulties is also quite challenging and that is also really fun
Wish they had reviewed it from coop standpoint.
I have been wondering where this review has been for months! Granted, you guys have a ton of games to review. This was my favorite new game of 2024 for me, and the first game we played was one of the best first impressions a game has ever left on me. I do agree with Mike that it can run a little long, but I also wholeheartedly agree with Milla that I didn't even care what the score was at the end because it was just such a satisfying experience.
My one issue with the game (other than occasionally length), which was revealed in one of my plays, is that after the first couple of terms, you should have a ton of variety, but in the earlier scenarios at least, it felt like everyone pretty much had to make the same choice on their first turn regarding moves and crew and rewards to shoot for to maximize their benefit. One of my friends wanted to "test" that "You can do anything!" vibe of the game and because he didn't take the same benefits that critical first round, he was behind the entire game and had no way of catching up.
@@benleach5534 yeah I agree. I wish you had more options on the first two rounds, the actions feel reeeeally tight. You need discs, but you also need orange to get different people, but you also need to get back the disks to free the people.
I found the best tactic was to the sonar to get the bonus from discovering Giles which are usually very good.
Surprised Zee wasn't on this
I love your Mardi Gras outfit, Tom. (You just needed a tiny bit of green to go with the purple and gold.)
The game is great, I love it. I was drawn in by the theme, stayed for the super smooth fun gameplay (reminds me a bit of Arnak - simple snappy actions to squeeze as much out of each round). Plays well competitive, co-op, and solo
Is that a KS edition of PARKS in the background next to Sail and Fiction? :D
I passed on the Kickstarter because it would have been for solo only, but after the quick buzz from later in 2024 I waffled a bit and pulled the trigger when I saw a copy at PAX Unplugged in December. I am SO happy I did because this game is fantastic.
And TDT didn't even cover co-op or solo play at all! I'm curious what they would have rated those compared to the competitive mode.
I think the cover pays homage to the Endeavor: Age of Sail cover which shows a ship chest.
One of my top 2024 games. Even when I had my worst game on my 3rd play, I still had a great time, and I clearly saw which of my mistakes caused such poor results. I agree that two players has too few explored tiles but still great.
I always like a video with Camilla!
She's quickly become one of my favorite people on this channel
My view on this game is biased. I am the guy, who named the purple team. But I honestly think its a really great game with a fantastic theme. :)
best team name!
Can't figure out if I should get this or SETI. I plan to only play at 1-2.
"Amd so on my so forth", I thought Sam has come back 😄
This game is AMAZING! Got me through Hurricane Milton. Lol
The missions are fun, solo play is smooth, and the components are well thought of too. Overall a pleasant surprise. ❤
Is this worth it for exclusively 2p competitive?
@@elqord.1118 absolutely
Yes!
No brainer
For sure!
@@elqord.1118 indubitably
This Deluxe version, is it available for purchase?
Does the retail version have dual layered player boards?
I have the retail version and yes it is dual layered player boards
This time i'm on youre side. It is a really fun, enjoyable game.
My friend backed this because he loves the original Endeavor. Looks like a good bet!
Themes aside, I think I prefer the original one as it feels more streamlined than this version, but it is pretty good though.
Fantastic game. My #2 of '24 (beaten only by Slay the spire).
This was my 2nd favorite game of 2024. Really excellent gameplay. Can be AP inducing for those of us who have this issue.
With All Three of you having Such High Regard for the Game (Spoilers! 🙂) I just Ordered... Thanks for the Review and Overview! Excited to get this to the table for sure!
Maybe I missed it...did any of them have an opinion about preferred game mode type (solo/coop/competitive)?
Have to disagree about the box art. It looks like a equipment toolbox that can handle going underwater. That's pretty cool and it's what caught my attention.
I don't think this game is as bad as Five Tribes for AP (Five Tribes is my go-to benchmark for AP metrics). At least, in hte 2 times I've played solo, the amount of limitations I faced made it fairly easy for me to have a direction where I need to focus my discs on...and this usually was just me looking for where the bonuses are to pick up the stat boosts I needed. Oh I can't reach depth 3 yet? Well I won't be looking at any of those ocean zones yet.
What I did really enjoy about the game as Tom mentioned is how you're constantly always getting things. New specialists (new actions), more discs from the supply and your specialists...There's a degree of efficiency and balance to master between the rate you play discs and the rate you retrieve.... but the game hasn't yet feels like it punishes you for playing poorly. It's more like the game says "you can have this.... but not yet".
For me this game is not about all things said even they are more than correct. Most part is that even you had a hard day at work this game in the evening does not make your head burn. It just always feels smooth and relaxing.
I heard the the game became quite solitaire, which would be a no no for me. The first Endeavor was quite interactive and tactical between players placing the tokens on the board. That was the soul of the game for me.
I store my KS copy of this vertically without issues. Also this is a fun game. I like it a lot.
I played it with five players. Somehow I didn’t enjoy when we took things from each other. Maybe the game is more enjoyable as a cooperative experience.
Easy home run. The mechanics of the original were very good but the theme was absolutely abysmal. Huge kudos to the designers for recognizing their mistakes and taking positive action to fix them.
Happy I kept the first one , the theme was incredible! Do not plan to upgrade !!
😂👍🤡
Was this on toms top 100?
No, I played it AFTER I built the top 100 for last year.
Where's Dune Imperium Bloodlines? You're a bit late😅
The moment this game went live on crowdfunding, I sold my copy of Age of Sail. I loved the mechanisms in Age of Sail, but I hate the colonial theme. If Deep Sea had simply been a retheme, I'd have been happy, but they took those ideas and did a bunch of cool things with it.
Tom continues to be the worst person I have ever seen in explaining how to play a game.
