  • Guarianthe (Gur.) are former Central American Cattleyas. There are just 4 species but 3 of which are very popular incl Gur. skinneri which is the national flower of Costa Rica and Gur. aurantiaca which is the backbone of yellow Cattleya hybrids.
Chocolate Drop is C. guttata x Gur. aurantiaca

I do have Cattlianthe Chocolate Drop (red), but the plant is far from healthy. I am struggling to grow it. Please, could you share how to care for this plant, the media, sunlight, water etc etc? Thank you Olivier, always happy to watch your videos.

I grow it in medium orchiata bark with some charcoal and some perlite/sponge rock.
It gets plenty of bright light (filtered in my screened in room but plenty of it) and not too much water. A good soaking once a week at best, except in our hot summer months when it gets 2 watering a week. Like all Cattleyas, they need the wet and dry cycle.
      I fertilize it "weekly/weakly"
Thank you for your kind words :))

Cattelianthe have become very popular here in India. I find that they need more water than the cattleya that come with those huge flowers. And the roots don’t like to dry out completely. Is that what your experience is too? I’ve seen them come packed in sphagnum moss and when I repot them, I do retain some of it, and they do well after that. What potting medium do u use for the Cattelianthe?

I don’t water them more than other Cattleyas but it sounds like whatever you do works, so you should keep on doing it. Good to hear from you Sunita!

I sent you some info about Eucagenera yesterday but came back later to check if you had replied but couldn’t find that I had even sent it.

I never received it. I cannot recall which video we talked about the South American vendors but if you had sent me something, I would have been notified and I have not.
      Feel free to resend.

I’m trying to send you a web address for Eucagenera retail store in Apopka Florida.

I have their web address. Thank you!
I do not believe you can share a link in this comment section???
My experience with Ecuagenera is that they don't really use their Apopka location the way they should. Most of the plants they sell come straight from Ecuador and are sent to Apopka for mailing in the US. They should acclimatize plants in Florida and then sell then in the US in my opinion@@user-qe8vf3pu6v
