Hey, I don't really understand how this works. I have natural gas heating and water heating system (for showers etc). How does this work? I'd expect the valves would connect to my wifi and work alone. For example, my mother is cold so she sets the thermostat to 25 degrees celsius but everyone else is OK, so we close all the other valves but the bedroom so only the bedroom is heated and every other room is kept cold. I also have no idea how the heating bodies are connected. I speculate that they are connected in series so if I close the valve on the middle room water won't flow to the other room, but I might be mistaken. But how can you automate this? What kind of thermostat do you need for that? Even the tado one confused me. We only have one thermostat at the centre of the house where you press buttons and raise the temperature, lower it, set the temperature of the water (for shower) or completely close the hot water.
Well, it is hard to tell to be honest. This device connects to wifi, via the gateway. So you need one gateway in your house. The radiator valves talk to the gateway or radio (which is not wifi), and the gateway converts it to wifi. But the device works standalone, even if your network is down, it will still control the temperature. In terms of heating only one room you can still do that. I can't tell for sure, but I think the radiators should be piped in "parallel", so turning all of them off and only turning one on is OK. Even if you don't do anything your boiler should work. Boilers usually have a pump to circulate the water in the radiators, and the boiler will turn fire up / down depending on how much heat is used. So if all radiators are turned off, the hot water will just circulate and the fire will be turned off in the boiler (or just the pilot fire lit). If the radiator valve opens the hot water will flow into the radiator and will cool down as returns to the boiler. The boiler senses that and will turn the fire back on to heat up the water. Hence this could work without any additional automation. Or you can purchase a smart relay and set up an an automation which says: if valve 1 is on OR valve 2 is on OR valve 3 is on OR.... then turn on the smart relay which turns on the boiler. And if valve 1 is off AND valve 2 is off AND valve 3 is off AND.... then turn off the smart relay.
I don't understand, how can you connect your primary house thermostat for a boiler? Is this possible? So it should be like that: 1. You should have a temperature sensor in the room, 2. Room temp sesor should be connected to radiator valve which is connected to primary house thermostat. 3. So when needed radiator valve can send signal to main thermostat which then turns on your main boiler and sends hot water directly to requested radiator. So is that possible with this system? Tado and netatmo system works like that.
