- One does not simply master the art of bending on their own. Even Aang and other Avatars have had to learn to master their bending abilities from someone. Here are the top 8 most powerful bending masters and elders from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I just realized it's possible Gyatso was a member of the White Lotus. Wise old master, great bender, loved Pai Sho? The boxes are all ticked
Yea your right
Do we know how old the white lotus is? If not maybe Gyatso could be one of the founding members
The white was created around kyoshi’s time i believe
He was a member.
@@4hevy White Lotus was already active in Kyoshi era. So at least it has been there for 412 years (kyoshi 230 years + roku 70 years + aang 112 years). Gyatso most likely a member or even the leader (Grand Lotus) the way he enjoyed playing Pai Sho 👌
Imagine an enlightened Azula as an elder, she'd be plasma bending.
she’s a preprodigy, i’m disappointed she hasn’t even hit her peak, too bad she went insane
MV408 - Mobile yea my thoughts exactly
technically lighting is plasma, so shes already plasma bending
I don’t think that’s how firebending progresses but okay.
Resa Chiic Covers i was imagining a more fluid plasma style that can shape shift, almost like water bending. It's sort of her take on learning from water benders, as Iroh once did to learn how to redirect lightning.
Wow.It's been like 12 years, and everyone is still talking about this show.

@Alex DeMidow we didn't have to "outlive" korra. Atla was a one of a time piece and it shouldn't really be compared to Korra which is COMPLETELY different.

There weren't any scorch marks in the room or on him either. Those soldiers kicked down the door and he pushed all the air out of the room.

Your comment gave me goosebumps , he sure was a better airbender than aang can ever be without the avatar state .

If we are being honest with ourselves, if Iroh wanted the throne. He could’ve just walked to the throne room and took Ozai and his guards out by himself. The warden who imprisoned him needed a psych ward after Iroh broke out. He said Iroh was the power of a one man army. Shook him to his core.
Angela Michele yep
In his prime with his knowledge and enlightenment of age I’d probably give it to him but I think he’d aged out of that fight. I think the creators said Ozai was definitively the most powerful at the time but it’s been a while.
But Azulon declared Ozai as the Crowned Prince. That makes Ozai the rightful heir to the throne. Iroh doing that would be unlawful, but yeah, he could vaporize Ozai if he wanted.
Oğuzhan Aydemir I mean.....something being unlawful hasn’t exactly ever stopped that bloodline. Ironically till Iroh because he knew it wouldn’t heal the world even if he could win.
@@adarkwind4712 That is what I meant as well.
“whatever you do to that spirit I’ll unleash on you tenfold” ....I would’ve just listened to him. Iroh is way scarier than he looks man
'' LET IT GO NOW!'' You know he means business when he takes that tone
Zhao: haha fishy go brrrr
If you look at Zhao you realize how frighted he is by Irohs firebending. I bet he never saw someone as powerful a iroh. I would argue that iroh can win against ozai.
@@DonJuan911 Iroh could beat Ozai if he gave his all but you're basically asking the man to attack his own brother. It's not in his nature to go all out against his own family. This is also why he never stands directly up to Azula and only trains Zuko to defend himself against her. It's also why he wanted someone else from Team Avatar with Zuko at the end. He was afraid Zuko would also not have the ability to do what needed to be done against Azula. Zuko might similarly flinch at the idea of killing his own sister. Katara though would have no such compunction and Iroh knew it.

I was like
*Full moon, water bender, she gets called a witch, she’s teaching Katara on how to literally control people...this is almost as creepy as Ba Sing Se!*
Yeah. Same here. I was in elementary school when I saw that episode as well and now I'm 20 and that episode is still creepy to me. But in terms of creepy can anyone beat Koh the Facestealer?
Saw it when I was like 8. 18 now and still traumatized
Katherine Ross when I was younger the face stealer episode was most disgusting and creepy
Imagine a fight between Hama vs. Iroh. It would have been so scary...

no you're not
Aishah nope
No.
Nah ur not the only one

That gives me goosebumps. Iroh never give threats. Only this moment.
That was not a threat, it was most definitely a promise

I like how with each bending member of the White Lotus, you can see hints of other bending styles.
Yeah like Jeong Jeong walls of fire.Just like waves created by waterbenders.
Any true great bender understands that all elements are connected in one way or another
island exactly as Iroh said you gotta learn from the other disciplines
@@isaacankrah4128 Actually more like eartbenders, which tend to block attacks. Waterbenders use a lot of counters instead.
@@CeIIsius I tend to agree. Water benders typically deflect attacks or redirect then back to the opponent. It's actually visible at 0:42
When the non bender is considered more powerful than the master waterbender
Gerwin Opong I think solely because he was “sexist”
It's becasue being a master is more than just skill. That's why Iroh is clearly number 1. His connection to other forms of bending and the spirit world elevate his status as master and grand lotus.
Well it gotta take some balls to attend to the last battle without being a bender and with just a sword
@@eddieportillo897 it wasn't about being a master, it was about power. Guru Pathik has no bending ability at all, and no combat skills.
Trevor Cline We don’t know fr we ain’t seen him fight he prolly tuff fr
Honestly Jeong Jeong is underrated, and I hope that he eventually learns that fire can be used to heal
fire can be used to detect bad vibes basically, but its water that hals
He is so underrated he is so powerful, I wish we got to see more of him. Eg he created the wall of fire against zhao
Yeah, fire can be used to detect dark energy
Wouldnt it be cool if Jeong Jeong had invented this technique? I Think, since he knows a lot about controling fire that would be likely.
It can I had my fanfiction technique that uses chi coming from the sun to concentrate it on a wound so it can heal with firebending
is it just me or jeon jeong firebend like waterbending move
I was thinking it's more earth like. Check out the episode where he teaches Aang to fire bend and how he roots himself to the ground and such. Either way it's awesome to find these mixed techniques.
He and Iroh have all the basic knowledge of all four elements. So maybe He combine it
Like Henri said, Jeon Jeong learned from many disciplines. In fact, many of the masters in this video did (Order of the White Lotus). That's the precise reason why they were so powerful. To quote Iroh, " It is the combination of the four elements in one person that makes the Avatar so powerful. But it can make you more powerful, too." The OotWL knew this, and so learned from (and taught) from all cultures.
@@chrizgarro they are strong because they are open minded to use techniques based on other elements
Gyatso was also rumored to be in the white lotus during his time, I wonder who those masters were
We seriously need a series on just Iroh.
Or the white lotus
Not without Mako, Some can come close, But none will ever match him.
Rest in piece, Mako Iwamatsu.
We don't.
AnTra23 Iroh is seriously one of the greatest fictional characters of all time. A series on him would do exponentially well
I like how Katars is like “Sorry aang!” And he just says “it’s okay” honestly it was pretty funny
Lol this comment was a banger
I couldn’t agree more. I was going to comment this myself.
u made a typing mistake :P
She apologized to Aang but not to her brother. I mean, I get it, I wouldn't have apologized to my own sibling either just so they won't rub it in my face later. XD
Who is katars
I think the turtle that taught Aang the ability to take Ozai’s bending should at least of been an honorable mention.
Jeong Jeong is literally fire-flying.
He's basically using fire techniques to airbend. Fire can push and direct air and jeong Jeong is taking full advantage of that. His flight, and his use of fire to push air to deflect fire against the flametanks -- his whole schtick in the liberation of Ba Sing Se was using fire to control air.
Kinda feel like that may have been deliberate. Iroh had firebending covered. The other elements were covered but the Air Nation was not represented for obvious reasons. Jeong Jeong used his technique to become almost an airbender so the all-but-extinct Air Nation had a role and voice by proxy in the liberation of Ba Sing Se and the restoration of balance.

Jeong Jeong uses a waterbending + earthbending move, a fire wall that can originate from anywhere not just near his body or from his limbs.
ATLA’s white lotus was amazing and powerful compared to ALoK who was easily defeated
I think we're seeing a bias though. Iroh is called a Grand Lotus by a no-name (okay, his name is Fung) character who belongs to the Order. The group that recaptures Ba Sing Se are all dressed similarly to Iroh, so I'd say it's safe to assume they're all Grand Lotuses. Most of the Order that we see in A:LOK are sentries, probably on par (or even lower-ranked) than Fung.
@@bmalloy0 ALoK breaks lore too much to be considered canon anyways so it doesnt matter
@@Trathien- Whether you like it or not, it is canon. Deal with it, also what lore does it break?

@@thatsprettyfarfetchd9888 Not by the fans, who are literally the only reason the franchise is famous, so yeah we aren't dealing with anything.
I feel like whoever created this vid, couldve chosen better scenes to show the power of these elder benders.. for Bumi, it’d prolly be the scene where he removed the fire nation from his city of Omashu, etc...
or when he EARTHBENDED WITH HIS EYEBROWS ill never gt over that. manz is powwerful
Also, it didn't show Iroh bend lightning at all
GoobTube
7:42 Yeah it did what are you talking about? Literally the first thing they show Iroh doing.
Or when iroh created a fireball/comet that broke the wall of Ba Sing Se
Gyatso and Iroh would have been great friends and I assume they are in the spirit world.
Well I know Iroh is in the spirit world, don't know about Gyatso
and pathik, they would be like the aang sokka and katara of the spirit world
The spirit world is not the afterlife. That is what Iroh discovered him self when he was searching for his son. He is only there because he made a pact with one of the knowledge seekers like the Princes and the Moon.
Although.. it is a little weird for him not to be dead as it seems an Iroh thing to do, to accept death and die with the chance of seeing what is on the other side.
everyone: zaheir can fly?
jeong jong: am I a joke to you?
jeong jeong couldn't fly, flying is still something airbenders can only do. if you look closely you can see there is a small piece of fire beneath him that's holding him up.
Its fire that holds jeong jeong
Azula can fly too, plus Jeong Jeong could only fly in the Sozin's commet
Ιάκωβος Πρέκας all firebenders can fly. They can’t fly for a long time tho. Zaheer was able to become untethered from the earth which allowed unlimited flying
Can a earth bender levitate using the earth
Alternate title: the people who probably should’ve been teaching aang
tru
should've? Pakku (Water), Pathik (Avatar state), Jeong Jeong (Fire) and Gyatso (Air) all taught Aang. Iroh also technically taught him to redirect thunders since only Zuko and him knew that technique, so 5 of those 8 people *were* teaching Aang
@@philruu I am normally not that kind of person, but if you include Iroh by the lightning bending lessons Aang received from Zuko, you must include Hama by the blood bending lessons he received from Katara 💏😂
@@jimmybiemans8264 those lessons must've been unannounced when katara simply was angry xD

Can you imagine a version of Avatar where Aang was trained by Gyatso in Air-Bending, Bumi in Earth-Bending, Iroh in Fire-Bending and Pakku in Water-Bending? He'd be absolutely unstoppable!
Hama* toph*
Bumi should be #1. He reclaimed an entire nation on his own, took back ba sing se with the white lotus, and he’s a genius. At the very least he should be #2.
@Tiny Korra
kuruk was a full fledged avatar who had mastered all the elements. he could beat anybody he faced, not just hama.
lamin savage legend of Korra was a disgrace.
Jeong-jeong stance and technic remind me of water bending, he didn't just shoot the flame, he control the flow of the fire.
I think he really appreciated water bending in general! I noticed that when he saw Katara healing her own wounds and he was sad that fire is more of a destructive force.
Happy 15th anniversary Avatar The Last Aribender
P.S. Nickelodeon, you can celebrate the 15th anniversary of your greatest show by redefining it
I wish we could see more of Gyatso airbending..
Hey bumi should be number two he rivals iroh
Btw imagine bumi in his prime
That moment when yu realize Uncle Iroh is really Mr. MIYAGI
Bumi, I lost my cabbages because of him
Huh i never realized it but monk gyatso and the annoyed monk is just reincarnated Uncle and Daolan Wong from Jackie Chan Adventures. From feuding chinese wizards to air nomad monks.
I feel like Toph post-metalbending is up there in technique with Bumi. Maybe not his power, but certainly his creative use of bending as a whole
I remember watching the last episode with my cousins
theres 4 other bending masters that should have been mentioned: 2 of em are the 2 dragons, the third one are the badger moles which are mentioned by toph to be incredible eartbenders, which cant really be ignored since an animal teaching a human how to bend is beyond mastery imo... and the fourth one are the living lion turtles. they are the masters of the ancient bending, the bending of energy, which i highly consider to be superior above any other element or bending ability. bending ones energy is bending ones life, will, past, future.
these are bending elders, not the original bending masters. i'm pretty sure there's already a video talking about them.
Iroh and the uncle from jackie chan adventures will teach you all the wisdom you will ever need in life!
So basically every Lotus Member 😑
So refreshing
hama pathik and gyatso
@@pigiman7956 I think Gyatso is shown to favor the White Lotus tile in Pai Sho, so it's possible that he was also a member, even though it isn't confirmed. I also wouldn't be surprised if Pathik was as well, though again, uncomfirmed.
@@bmalloy0 pathik probably wasnt, but every person that uses white lotus in the show was white lotus so he most likely was
Put Avatar on Netflix US please😭😭
Little did he know...
