There’s a pretty interesting theory that Ty Lee actually has air nomad ancestors. The reasons for this theory is that she is so light on her feet, uses a method of combat that disables/defeats opponents without actually hurting them, and she basically looks like a female Aang.
Her physical appearance , there are stories of air nomads that survved and blended in with te Fire Nation, as certain Air Temples were close to Fire Nation territories, so her relatives could have gone there when the AirTemples were destroyed and just blended in and spent 100 years becoming wealthy and Elite

Piandao should be #1. Piandao has won many battles for the fire nation and won them all. He taught sokka to be agile, use the terrain, use the surrounding, to be resourceful, Piandao is at the peak of those things. He even betrayed the fire nation but they left him alone because of how good he is.
Its funny how ever though the legend of Korra is after the avatar, but we still have the avatar characters out ranking those characters. I love mai and Tylee and suki
They didn't have as many non-benders highlighted through Legend of Korra, at least in terms of fighting because unlike AtLA, the world was for the most part at peace so they didn't have to. Just Asami & the Equalists. Bumi (LOK) wasn't shown fighting anyone until the Red Lotus came after the Airbenders. He was a bender at that point, but most of his fighting seemed to come from his years of being a non-bender & was only shown once. His encounter with a spirit wasn't really much of a fight. Asami's father never fought anyone without a mech suit & he mostly just charged at them & used the mech's weapons, unlike someone else who could have at least had an honorable mention. The one who should have had an acknowledgement of some kind, even though she used a mech suit in her fight, she was doing so against others in mechs, and that would be Zhu Li. It's clear from that one fight that she was already pretty skilled at fighting. She didn't just use the weapons, she was kicking with it too. It made me wish we could have had a chance to see her really be part of the fight at times. She was also very smart (no, I don't think it was dumb that she still had the part of the canon on her when she was caught by Kuvira. She may not have had time to get rid of it). There is a reason that Varrick named his battleship after her.
Unfortunately LOK lacks balance. Bending superpowers (lightning-bending, metal-bending) are cheap (that doesn't make sense. During the war to be a skilled bender was a life-death advantage, why benders should be stronger in peacetime?) and non benders don't have a chance. In ATLA the stronger team for most of the series was 2-3 non-benders.

Pretty much agree with the list. Though in some ways I find sokka more impressive,. He is ranked roughly right on your list, but the dude grew up super rural in the middle of nowhere water tribe. If he had been born a later time, or in Asami's position where would he be. Why evreybody in every rankings of this series always forgot about Teo!!! He was non -bender too with extraordinary gift of flying and gliding .He also was really strong ,smart,brave ready to sacriface himself to defence the whole people who he loved and his home.Fitining with very unconvenctional,unique way. Same as himself. He was also really matures ,carying,and loving character. When I think about trrue heroes in atla series I always think about Teo(especially when I think about non-benders) and Toph. What i Have noticed is that sometimes non bender fighters are like rock paper scissors to rank. For example 1) Asami in my opinion is higher than ty lee, because of Asami can really defence herself in melee combat, also having ability to mid range combat she will outclass ty lee by example a pair of gloves 2) On the other hand Ty lee is better than Mai, because Mai can not defend herself as being long range fighter, and Ty lee can quickly get closer to her avoiding projectiles 3) And Mai will be stronger than Asami because Asami is not that fast and Mai can precisely target the technologies she uses with a dart, and Asami can not get closer or use mid range to her. What do you think?

Ive seen a few people say mai should be higher than Asami and while Mai is skilled and terrifying but Asami's ability to make different gadgets and resourcefulness is not to be trifled with. I know some will say that without those gadgets she isn't as strong but if you say that about Asami then what fighting abilities did Mai show if she didn't have her weapons? Asami's Hand to Hand combat training was second to none. She didn't show chi blocking but it didn't mean she couldn't compete on the same level. Between Mai and Suki seems about right. We know she was better than the equalists.

In my opinion zaheer should be there too, maybe he is bender, but earlier he was a nonbender, he is not only skilled in hand to hand combat, the fact that he mastered air bending so easily just shows how talented he was

Why evreybody in every rankings of this series always forgot about Teo!!! He was non -bender too with extraordinary gift of flying and gliding .He also was really strong ,smart,brave ready to sacriface himself to defence the whole people who he loved and his home.Fitining with very unconvenctional,unique way. Same as himself. He was also really matures ,carying,and loving character. When I think about trrue heroes in atla series I always think about Teo(especially when I think about non-benders) and Toph. Maybe Teo was just the boy but Sokka and Aang was too.Maybe he use a wcheelchair but he had a flying machine also in it too! He even helped his father to project the new hang-glider for Aang! Mai was shocked when ty lee betrayed Azula also. This scene was the start of Azula's downfall, mentally unstabled to fight properly from here on out.

What i Have noticed is that sometimes non bender fighters are like rock paper scissors to rank.
For example
1) Asami in my opinion is higher than ty lee, because of Asami can really defence herself in melee combat, also having ability to mid range combat she will outclass ty lee by example a pair of gloves
2) On the other hand Ty lee is better than Mai, because Mai can not defend herself as being long range fighter, and Ty lee can quickly get closer to her avoiding projectiles
3) And Mai will be stronger than Asami because Asami is not that fast and Mai can precisely target the technologies she uses with a dart, and Asami can not get closer or use mid range to her.

I agree, i also pointed out that Ty Lee isn't a melee combatant. However, due to her chi blocking abilities, and acrobatic prowess, she stands a chance.

I would personally put sokka higher
Once trained as a swordsman, Sokka was superior to the Kyoshi warriors, bar Suki, and Jet was probably superior as well. I'll put Ty Lee as second after master Piandao. Ty Lee is exceptional when she has the advantage of surprise, but we have seen several times during the series that, once his adversary knows her tricks, her attacks can be avoided. Piandao, being a swordmaster has the further advantage of reach.
Asami can't bend but she can bend even the Avatar's heart... plus she has an electric... glove

Ive seen a few people say mai should be higher than Asami and while Mai is skilled and terrifying but Asami's ability to make different gadgets and resourcefulness is not to be trifled with. I know some will say that without those gadgets she isn't as strong but if you say that about Asami then what fighting abilities did Mai show if she didn't have her weapons? Asami's Hand to Hand combat training was second to none. She didn't show chi blocking but it didn't mean she couldn't compete on the same level. Between Mai and Suki seems about right. We know she was better than the equalists.
Zuko, without using his bending, is better than Sokka, IMO -- but 100% agree with the #1. She's only going to get better joining the Kyoshi Warriors.
