Never Have I Ever… used Lunar Paste! But I'm giving it a go (and making two cute cards!)

- My friend @simon.hurley sent me some of his Lunar Paste and today I'm creating with it for the first time. A few hiccups happen along the way, but the cards are pretty dang cute! Remember: no one is an expert the first time they try something new! It's all about learning and having fun!

What fun, colorful stuff!!! Suggestion I learned from another YTV crafter: In order to avoid the possibility of contaminating the paste with the naturally occurring oils on my fingers, I use a spatula to put some paste on the craft mat then dip my fingers into that puddle rather than into the jar or the lid. Weird stuff can grow over the life of the paste just from the oil and skin particles from our fingers.
Hi. Thanks, that's good to know. I usually wrap my fingers in cling film these days because I've used pots of stuff before only to find that no amount of scrubbing or wiping with cleaners, soaps, potions and lotions shifts it. Definitely a case of 'once bitten, twice shy' as they say.
I usually go the other extreme on new products. When I got my first lunar pastes, I looked up a number of TH-cam videos on "how to use" -- many by Simon Hurley. The problem is, I see so much good stuff, and so many options, that even though I purchased them months ago, I haven't opened the 1st jar. I keep watching posts & demos to make sure I get it right -- and never put the info to use. Thank you for presenting a "just do it" option. I appreciate your being relateable.

I love this video. It's like watching myself craft, only I use more bad words 🤣I swear I hear you say "aaaand" while I'm creating (and I whisper to myself a lot more than I care to admit). Making the berries with two different mediums really added a fun aspect. Thanks for showing us that YT creators aren't perfect, especially the first time they use a product.

oh,Cathy, You've done it again. I always love your videos. I have determined we have the same sense of humor so I laugh but not at you. I am a ninety-one year old lady. I am about ready to try my lunar paste but l've told my great grandchildren there is a cache of crafts waiting for them. They seem to love it.

I would take the paste an apply to card stock and then take a small paper punch and punch out red dots for the berries . That would be fun too.

It seems so simple to say, you got to be gentle on yourself, especially when trying something new. I’m proud of you! I know you make cards that are clean and simple, so messy is probably not in your comfort zone. It’s just paper! We just need to be kind to ourselves as well as others. Thanks for being ‘real’ with us!

Hi. Thank you for sharing your experiments and experiences, I have some of these pots of shiny stuff on it's way to me and it's nice to have a bit of a heads up beforehand. I love the black background floral card, it's beautiful and makes me think of old Gypsy paintings.

Cathy watching you struggle with the Gemini I wanted to tap you on the shoulder and remind you of the embossing mat that came with your Gemini. Watching you is such great joy. Like we would probably never stop giggling together if I were lucky enough to craft with you in person. Silly, but it just feels like we would be great friends. I’m sure others feel that way too. Cathy, the end results were great. I did find the bloopers amusing. i've had many crafting sessions like this. If one thing went wrong everything did. All is well that ends well.

I don't know how Simon Hurley is able to get his lunar paste perfectly on the flowers. I've tried and mine looks like a "hot mess". Thanks for sharing and letting us know it's OK when things aren't perfect.

You did very well. I've used this paste several times and I love it. I've learned that if you need to dry your piece use your heater tool. Love your videos.

I like card #1... that sure looks great on dark/ black
I learned a trick from Therese Calvird from lost in paper. She cuts a frame template in different sizes from paper and places it over her design to decide where to crop it. It takes the guess work out of figuring out your placement. I learn so much from you I thought I would pass this along.

Never have or er either. Buy I bought all the colors I want so I can try someday! I did paste with a stencil only once and blended 3 colors for my leaf Thanksgiving card and I just LOVED it!!! I had an 8x8” or 9x9” baking pan with soapy water on it and laid it on the very end of a towel to my right. I did 14. So when I needed the stencil again I took it out and dried it with the towel that was hanging out from under the pan. Worked great!even for slimline!
My first attempt with lunar paste was messy, but it gets better. Less is more
I find the easiest way to learn how to use any new craft item is to just "play" with it. I don't try to make it pretty, I just play and see what happens. It takes a lot of stress out of learning a new product or method.
Fun stuff! I know I want to try some glitter paste in the future, not sure yet on the lunar paste. I do many ooops myself, I tell myself I’m a goofneramous when I do. 😂😊❤️🇨🇦

I just watched one of Simon’s videos and his BIG tip is to put a thin amount on your finger when going over embossing. Because you are just trying to touch the top of the embossing. Hope this is helpful.
I just realized that you probably didn’t need to mask off the berries when you were coloring the leaves. Once the Game Over was added, you’d never know it was green underneath since the Lunar Paste is opaque. Right? I think that’s right 😊
I needed that laugh today lol. If were extroverts that lived closer, we could be friends LOL. (I would have had to bleep myself as well) Why is it one small glitch starts an avalanche lol. Cards turned out great. Loving the look of Luna Paste.

As for the nail polish, did you put a clear coat over it? That can help prevent transfer.
I did! And I have used the brand exclusively for six months… but, this is the first time I've ever tried a shimmer. I usually am a creme polish kind of girl

I have found that some embossing folders within brand need different shims and plates. I had three different 3D embossing folders from one lovely brand out yesterday: one leafy background, one geometric one, and one stand alone floral spray one. In my hand they look to be the same thickness. On my handcrank machine one needed tab 1 and 2 and a cutting plate, one needed tab 1 with 2 cutting plates, one needed tab 1 and one plate. All different, all 3D folders from one brand 😶 I keep post-its with the setup required with each plate.
Also, most of my paperwork is covered in nail polish marks!
Natasha Foote uses the gold one all the time sometimes with a makeup sponge but I’m still not convinced to add it to my stash. And nope on using fingers lol. Thank you for your bravery though! 😅
Thank you for a fun video. I like how you leave the mistakes in too. By the way, I just watched Kristina Werner's holiday card video for today and she recommended thin foam strips from Waffle Flower. She has also been on the hunt for something since Darice quit making them.
