My very first watch was a Hamilton Khaki Day Date Automatic and I absolutely love that watch. I really enjoyed the field watch look when I was first getting interested in watches and this Hamilton offered a lot of great specs for a very good price.
Upon receiving the watch, I was absolutely blown away. The dial is so beautifully detailed and just like this Jazzmaster you're reviewing, there are different textures, applied indices and beautifully printed elements that all come together to make a really beautiful dial. The center section has a black sunburst finish and the outer ring which houses the arabics has this grooved texture, similar to a vinyl record. The result is a dial that plays with light in 10 different ways with the slightest tilt of the wrist.
I purchased the watch on the metal bracelet, which is a very comfortable bracelet but I quickly learned that I prefer leather straps on my watches. I picked up a few different leather straps from Windup Watch Shop and as soon as I matched this watch up with some high quality leather, it immediately looked at least 5 times more expensive than it actually was.
I've purchased and sold several watches since buying the Hamilton but I will never sell this watch. I know it's only worth $400-500 but to me, it's still an heirloom quality watch. I look forward to handing this watch down to my first son many years from now. I know it must sound like I'm way over-hyped about this inexpensive, low-mid tier watch but to me, it has a ton of value. This is the watch that showed me how special watches could be. When I bought it, I was just wanting to get a decent mechanical watch. I had never really worn watches before and wanted to see if I could get into it. The day that I actually received it, I went from being somewhat interested in watches to being completely in love with them.

You are right: Hamilton watches are too big.
That particular Jazzmaster is a wonderful choice as a dress beater, though.
I’ve drooled over Jazzmasters more times than I can count.
    Pros:
    accuracy
    instantly changing date
    stop-seconds feature
    tramsparent case back
    gorgeous dial
    easily serviced
    Cons:
    19mm lug width
I wear a Seiko SARB035 for everything at this point.
It’s being overhauled right now (was running too slowly after only about 29 months).
If it runs like my watchmaker told me it would after he’s done, I may never buy another watch.
On the other hand, this piece you’ve featured is a real a temptation.
And it might be irresistible at 36mm.
    Nice guitar work!
    Great video!

In my opinion, hamilton is the perfect beater watch for many situations. I use a khaki field for work (school/education) ... so... I should also buy a dress beater :)

It really depends of what can one afford. I bet you there are plenty of wealthy people who have their Rolex or Omega de Ville as dress beaters. For me being member of a working class from a country east next to yours - my Hamilton Jazzmaster is my dress watch. Although with a formal attire tiny (for today's standards) mechanical gold plated Luch does the job.
Love your videos - keep them coming ;-)

Enjoyable content as always! The Longines Heritage Conquest which you featured a few weeks back is also worth a look for this role. The 'nearly new' models are pretty affordable and great looking pieces.

To me, a dress beater watch should be water resistant to at least 10 bar of pressure. You never know when you will have to jump in a pool or have a beverage accidentally poured on your arm (it has happened to me). Personally my pick would be a Longines conquest quartz (my unpopular opinion no.157 but I genuinely care for accuracy) but some people might not find it dressy enough to be called a dress watch per se. With all the shiny parts and simple dial layout I would however.

I'm familiar with Frederique Constant and Hamilton. My wrists are slightly larger than yours- 18cm. I wear a Jazzmaster Day-Date (H32505731) as a my nightclub watch; it's 40mm. My main nonsuit w watch is a Frederique Constant FC-303BN5B6B.
Like Hamilton, Frederique Constant's main weakness is limited sizing. They are typically 40 - 43 mm.
I've seen a few handwinding Timex Marlins; at 34 mm these may be a great option for guys with smaller wrists.

    Hi Tim
    Wow, you’re a cool guitarist👍

The majority of the population will never spend five hundred dollars on a traditional watch. To refer to one as a beater watch is just plan snobbish. A beater watch is a Casio G-Shock or Timex Ironman. Something super affordable, yet design for the working man or athlete. A cheap "beater" dress watch would be a Seiko 5 or Orient Bambino.

Not on point but AHHHHH. I lost a watch today stupid mesh bracelet i sensed my wrist was not as before it was gone and i never heard it fall.
    My dilemma.
Me and a friend brought two watches from a kickstarter campaign. His initial idea I agreed ( I liked it not big money lets both do it ) I paid as he is scared of internet purchases. They arrived .My friends watch did not work to well.. I contracted the company and they ewer pretty good with linking me with a you tube tutorial to fix my mates watch , It did not work . My role was to send it back to asia to get it repaired or a refund. I was checking it one more time. I wore it all day on my other wrist. It was all over the place movement wise . I reset it one more time 10 yards from home and got a call from my wife and boy to meet them in the park. An hour later I realised it had come off my wrist. I never heard it fall to the floor.
Option 1. Give my friend the money back that he paid for the kickstarter watch price
Option 2 Give him my watch
Option 3. But a new watch ( current price double kickstarter price )
    Option 4 Options please?
My most expensive watch is my Seiko Alpanist followed closely by some vintage pieces. My mates are classics in their 1000;s even their servicing costs more than my watches.
I have lost my friends watch that I really did not want to have the responsibility of sending back but did as he cant /would not do it I felt obliged to do
Straps . It was not a nato. Obviously.
    Bloody mesh bracelet thing .....
Any opinions or light in a dark place ?

Great Hamilton. And the small exhibition of your musical talent was a nice touch! I have a 1940s Lanco (small Swiss watch maker that went bust in the Quartz crisis) as my dress beater when I am not wearing my Air King 5500. I picked it up from eBay for £14 (I was very lucky). It has a full patina effect dial and looks great on cheap colourful straps. Something interesting and different. Although I do 'baby' it, if it gets damaged all I will lose is a very small amount of money.
