Welcome to the Letterman TH-cam Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era. - บันเทิง
Pee Wee’s playhouse was a brilliant mix of good vibes, psychedelic visuals and bizarre humor. RIP to an extraordinary performer.
That smile was so infectious. We'll miss you, Paul.
One of the most unique comedy characters of the 20th century. RIP
Probably the most original comedic act of all time. Tell ‘em Large Marge sent ya.
One of my favorites that scene terrified me when I was younger but started to look forward to it every time I watched.
What an original character.
You could not be but glued to him.
Dave was fantastic with how he supported him.
RIP Paul Reubens
very sad to hear, Pee Wee died of cancer,
another great "comedian" from my generation, (see also Norm MacD)
and i didn't even know he was sick....
Rip Our pal Pee Wee.
This man overcame such a stupid "controversy" and still got a standing ovation when he came back. Loved Pee Wee growing up. RIP
Takes guts to act like a man-child in public. Very few if any others could ever pull that off.
Mr Paul Reubens had a brilliant comic mind and was a genius performer. Miss him already
I first saw Pee Wee on Steve Martin's "Twilight Theatre", I was hooked.
RIP Paul R.
Absolute genius. RIP, Paul Reubens.
Pee-Wee was the perfect protagonist for Tim Burton's unique, directing debut. Another awesome segment, and memorial to Paul, thanks!
So maybe without Dave, Pee-Wee doesnt become mainstream enough to make a major motion picture. And without Pee-Wee in his debut, Tim Burton doesn't find a big audience to get to direct Batman. And maybe wihtout Tim Burton (and Michael Keaton), the movie's not the sort of mega-event that Hollywood et al spend two decades trying to recreate until Marvel finally takes over the movies. Maybe just maybe, Dave "destroyed cinema".
@@gersonkphone😂
It's also the first movie scored by Danny Elfman. Pee Wee had a hand in launching many an actors careers. Most of the Playhouse (Lawrence Fishburne, and Natasha Lyonne amongst others) aas well as Tim Burton and Danny Elfman (Pee Wee's Big Adventure)
To think Tim Burton’s next movie was Batman!!
@@gersonkphone Without Big Adventure, Burton would likely never have had the opportunity to do Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, or any of the other zany offbeat comedies and dramas he did. Beetlejuice was a direct result of his popularity with Pee Wee ...which then opened up the world of opportunities to last the rest of his career.
I loooooved Pee-wee since first seeing him on Late Nite in the 80’s. Thank you, Paul! ❤️🙏
Pee Wee had a huge positive impact on my childhood (and adulthood...that Bicycle movie is beyond hilarious...)
I know for sure many others feel the same
I used to wish I could be in that crazy house!
What a performer. That voice...iconic laugh...Pee Wee Herman will live on forever
For the big smile that I had on my face for the entire interview, thank you very much Pee-Wee
Me too.
Me3!
Never realized how funny he was. So quick.
Me 4!
He was one of a kind
"So funny, I forgot to laugh".
Great movie.
RIP Paul Ruebens. Thank you so much for the laughs, memories, and your unique entertainment approach.
A world without Pee Wee… *sigh*
Until
❤
A sweetheart of a human being in a cruel world. Such a bright light. You will be missed 👏😭❤
I was at his last Letterman appearance and he stopped to 'greet" everyone after the show. Totally nice of him RIP
2 geniuses going at it , now that’s comedic timing
A talented man that left us enriched with unique, hilarious, poignant, and thought provoking material. He will be missed. No entertainer like him today.
One of a kind! RIP Pee Wee and thank you.
One of the best movies ever made💯
RIP Paul Reubens! Tell them LARGE MARGE sent ya! 😱❤
Absolutely crushed, but am so grateful for all the joy he brought over the years.
5:35 “DID SO! DID SO!” Priceless - RIP
Dave: you'll have to dress like that forever.
Also Dave: basically wearing the same suit as Pee Wee 😂
RIP Pee Wee.😢
@jjryan - same suits as long they where super expensive and paid by the production...any bum could look smart in a 3k suit.
lol. ikr
RIP paul... i'll never be able to count the laughs you have given me. thanks man.
Thanks for the memories Pee Wee. Rest in peace Mr. Paul Reubens!!!
I used to watch Pee-wee's Playhouse with my young kids back in the 80s, and we all enjoyed it very much. It was pure genius how we would stealthily intersperse adult humor into the shows -- something for everyone.
Not really though. The HBO special was adult humor. The TV series was not.
@@jjryan1352 If you were unable to recognize the hilarious but infrequent interjections of adult humor in Playhouse, that's your great loss.
@@jjryan1352 There are several videos on youtube of his adult humor in Playhouse.
@@JoeyDiphard yikes, you ain't kidding.
@@johnwohara i see. I just watched the tv series randomly. Missed a lot of episodes. I saw the HBO special when it came out.
Paul took this character to such heights…
Paul was a huge influence on my sense of humor. I can't believe he's gone.
Farewell Pee Wee. Thank you for all the laughs you gave us.
I like you Dottie. LIIIIIKE!
It's the little things sometimes. At the very beginning when he goes into the voice "Yea I've been away making the film..." and someone laughs...the glare he gives the audience. Hilarious
I absolutely loved Pee Wee's Playhouse as a kid. It was so much fun, was so darn funny, and it had tons of heart, just like Paul. It's hard to lose good people. Rest in peace, Paul. ❤
Oh that biker bar scene was GREAT!!! THANKS FOR SHARING IT
Can anyone imagine a conversation between Pee-Wee and Roseanne Roseannadanna?? They have so many of the same vocal inflections!
When I was young, I took him for granted. Now I realize that there will only ever be one Pee-wee Herman. And we got to see him in our lifetimes.
Great and Grateful Memories! Pee Wee's Playhouse would come on, my 3 kids would sit down to watch it. I would go back and forth as I cleaned thinking what a silly show it was. My house would be filled with gut wrenching laughter that echoed above the vacuum as it all but shook the windows. He delightfully made kids all over spontaneously combust with hysterical laughter! Thank you Pee Wee Herman, Paul RIP and God bless you!
RIP Hamburger Guy.
"You're the guys from the Hamburger Train, right??" 😂
R.I.P. Paul Reubens. You've meant so much to me.
The 80's was the "Golden Era" for comedy --- you had middle-of-the-road comics like Letterman and Gary Shandling --- then you had the ultra-offensive guys like Dice Clay and Sam Kinison --- then there was the sugary sweet folks like Pee Wee and Steven Wright --- great variety of laughs!
Pee wee Dance😂😂😂
I’m still doing it.
Look how happy Dave is during introduction, he LOVES it.
With some guests Dave really had to work hard to get them to be interesting. Not Pee Wee!
I love Pee Wee's big adventure. RIP Paul.
When I was first told this morning that Paul Reubens(Pee Wee) had died, I didn't want to believe it. I still don't and I want to wake up and find out it was just a nightmare. But it's not. Someone who I first started watching when I was about 3 is really, truly gone.
Godspeed, Paul, I mean Pee Wee. See you in the Playhouse in the Sky.
RIP Pee Wee...thanks for the laughs! 🥰
Super-duper seriously, humorously, fun movie star⭐️dude!
Man, Rest In Peace, Mister Pee-Wee Herman!
R. I. Pee wee!!! so original and hilarious. thank you Paul for the laughs and positive energy over the decades !
RIP to literally one of the best characters ever created by a comedian. Fly high Paul! We love you.
One of a kind ❤
He was a hoot! R.I.P. Paul!🙏
RIP Pee-Wee
RIP Hamburger Man. "I'm NOT sorry I took the money"
This is how I remember Dave’s audience. Classic. 😂
RIP Pee Wee Herman
Comedic genius
May we all not forget his small movie parts such as, The Blues Brothers, Midnight Madness, and 2 Cheech and Chong's before pee-wee.Happy trails Paul Reubens
Dave's line about Eddie Murphy probably hanging out with Prince is kind of prophetically funny.
One of my favourite guests over the years.
I remember when Letterman was on at 1am back in the old days before the 11:30 slot. I was 14 and stayed up late every night to watch him and was always running late for school, he had the best guests and the wickedest sense of dark humor. Larry Budd Melman, Teri Garr, all of the guests through the first years, and later lol Krispin Glover and his "I'm strong and I can kick" Pee Wee had a great interview here, he nailed it perfectly and made me laugh all over again.. Thanks P.W, the loner, the rebel, the guy you just won't understand.
A truly one of a kind talent. RIP
Dave really went out of his way to provide a platform for truly original offbeat Comedy. Not just Pee-wee… You had Brother Theodore, Andy Kaufman And even Chris Elliott, who worked on the show. In looking back, you can see clearly how Dave enabled their humor on the show and played the straight man for them. I think he really relished the idea of paying it forward while showcasing what he thought of as truly original comedy. And it was. And he did.
A true comic genious of our time !!!
This gentle creature will live in our hearts forever !!!
Pee-Wee and Dave together was always magic. RIP Paul Reubens, you will be greatly missed
I loved Pee-Wee, his movies, and his TV show when I was growing up.
Rest in peace Paul Reubens I'm so bummed out
A true legend of comedy. RIP Paul.
Early. Rest In Peace, Paul 🙏🏻
Thank you and bless you Paul Reubens, you have gifted us with so many iconic legendary film and television characters including your most famous live cartoon character Pee Wee Herman. I love how eccentric he is, stands out wherever he goes. One of my fave interviews of him is with David Letterman. See you in the big huge playhouse in the afterlife. He is already dearly missed. ❤ ♥️ 😍🥰😘🤩🌟✨😆😂🤣😇♾️ 🚲
A true one of a kind and a comic genius.
Seeing this clip brings a smile to my face 😂
I have been so sad since the news...still can't believe another great is gone...yes Pee Wee was one of a kind 😂 Hilarious character...I also miss Robin Williams and Joan Rivers...
All gone before your time 😢
RIP 🌹 Paul Rubeans 🙏 💞
The luckiest boy in the world!
Thanks for the laughs and memories.
Aww, team, thanks for sharing this. I had a chance to meet Paul while he was filming Big Top Pee-Wee out at Disney Ranch.
This is gold.
"Do you wake up in the morning and ask yourself, 'Did I take my medicine'". Well, Dave, just watch the first few minutes of the movie and see how Pee Wee starts his day!
Mr. Rubens was such sweetheart!! He will be truly missed
Thank you Paul Reubens.
Rest well Paul. The long nap every one takes eventually
💗☮️💗
Damn this is great stuff
I miss him already
OMG this is classic. RIP Pee Wee.
Air date: July 30, 1985. Prince’s birthday: June 7.
“About a month ago”, indeed!
RIP PEE WEE HERMAN YOU WERE A VERY FUNNY ENERGETIC MAN YOU WILL BE MISSED BY YOUR FANS YOU WERE SO FUNNY IN THE MOVIES THAT YOU PLAYED IN ALOT LAUGHTER AND TEARS THAT MADE YOU FAMOUS GOD BLESS YOU DEARLY
Cool to see his career develop over his appearances. My favorite is his disgruntled face when people aren't laughing enough 😂
Paul Reubens /Pee Wee Herman always made me laugh. Everything about was unique and I'll never forget him
I spent last weekend watching Pee Wees Big Adventure, old episodes of his television show and interviews on my favorite Late Night Show (Letterman). Ive been flooded with nostalgic thoughts long buried in the adolescent part of my mind. There's nobody like Paul. Truly an original and very appreciated by me and obviously Dave.
It could be that he left the world in a better place than he found it. Rest in peace
He seemed to get annoyed whenever Dave wasn't playing along 😅
Because a lot of primetime folk were expecting the actor lol not the character! I know this man had to make the groundlings theatre VERY PROUD
Nice of you guys to do
The two biggest comic geniuses of the second half of 20th century: Paul Reubens (Pee Wee) and Andy Kaufman. Unique and hilarious.
RIP Pee Wee.
RIP Paul Reubens 😔
Pee Wee Herman RIP 😔
PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE is literally one of the most unique movies ever made! Truly an original masterpiece.
This was actually part of Paul's comedy routine - props from a bag.
