It don’t get any better than that ! Good dogs, good hunt, good food, good scenery, and very good friends. I remember them days. Very glad I still can. Thanks for taking us along.👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🙏🏽
Nice video, dog work and shooting. That first crossing grouse shot was great! Nice marks and retrieves too. I’m stealing that Grouse grill cheese and bacon with Rosemary recipe as well. Yum! Thanks for sharing.
Is there any better feeling like you get when you see your dog coming out of thick cover with a dropped bird you have no clue where it was? Priceless. Heading up to the U.P. this weekend.

Always trust your dog, a few years back I took one of my friends from the RGS local chapter here in nj for some Pheasant hunting...after hunting for about a hour in a overgrown field we reach the end of it ! When we hit the woods along the field there was a huge briar patch. My Yellow lab Katy worked that patch for twenty minutes...finally found away through it and came out with a Cockbird in her mouth! I had the biggest grin 😁 on my face
That reminds me of my Brittany spaniel, who was very small when grown. We were hunting calivally quail in the foot hills around Bakersfield.A wounded bird ran down a squirrel hole and before we could stop her she went after it. Twenty minutes later, we are standing around wondering what to do, when she emerges with the prize. She came out some random hole about a hundred yards from the entrance. It was amazing. True hero.😉
I'm 52 and this is the first time I have ever seen a GSP that hunts close enough to be effectively used to hunt grouse and woodcock. I've pheasant hunted with many different guys who owned GSPs and they just range out WAY too far. Big reason why I would never own a GSP. That said, you have the exception to that breed IMO. I'll still stick with my Brittany's though. Nice video.
Thank you Keith. I work hard at keeping my GSPs at a close distance. I use "vibrate" on my ecollar along with whistle commands to train them to stay close. When it is working it is a thing of beauty. Of course every line of GPSs are different, some are rangers and some are close workers. Good luck with your Brittany's

Ok! So this is the best bird hunting video I have ever seen! Beautiful dog work, a wonderful rapport between our convivial GoPro protagonist and his buddies, human and canine and solid shooting. Three things: that grouse sandwich looks delicious (I think I’d add some gruyere cheese.). And what kind of double is that? Also what are those puppies named!😊
Thanks for the kind words Paul. There are a lot of great bird hunting videos out there. Substituting gruyere cheese for provolone sounds great. The SxS is a Ugartechea 20 ga. The GSP are Java and Mocha, the lab is Baloo.
I’m a grouse hunter from PA. 62 years young. Love the side by sides. Wanna get up there before I’m too old.
I learned to grouse hunt in central PA. The U.P. is worth drive from my home now in MO.

Yup, you hit all the highlights👍💯
looks like it was a great time!! nothing like hunting in the UP with good buddies!!! the sandwich made me hungry!!! thanks for sharing
Yup, it was a great time. The grouse sandwiches have become a tradition and so far we have been fortunate enough to have fresh grouse for them.
Those fried sandwiches at the end just looked SOOOOO delicious!
They were and are a Grouse Camp tradition
Great video! Nice SxS as well. I love hunting over my dogs in Michigan in October.
Thanks Brad. Yes MI in October is really special.
Nice video, dog work and shooting. That first crossing grouse shot was great! Nice marks and retrieves too. I’m stealing that Grouse grill cheese and bacon with Rosemary recipe as well. Yum! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. The sandwich has become a tradition at our grouse camp.
That was a helluva shot sir! Congratulations on a great hunt!
Thank you. Sometimes luck is on my side.
Great video. Love watching the dogs do what they were born to do.
That's why we hunt.
Thanks for sharing the awesome video of your trip. Great dog work and some really good shots on grouse!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the shooting compliment, sometimes I get lucky.
Great video! Hunting with the dogs and good friends. Man, that's the life.
I agree 100%

I totally agree. I'm also headed to U.P. this weekend. Have a fun hunt.

Great video Dave! Some impressive cross shots. Love Java watching you make those sandwiches, looks familiar to me. ;)
Thanks Dave, unlike me as a shooter, Java does not miss a thing, especially when it comes to food.

Sincere thank you for sharing this, great to see amazing dog work. One question though: what is that beautiful side by side?
Ugartechea 20 gauge.
May birds hold tight, the dogs point true, the hunters shoot straight, and these old farts keep up too.
Great video!
Hey, I resemble that remark. Thanks for the compliment.

FAAAAANTASTIC!!!
Great video , love grouse hunting, love side x side shot guns, Just not with dogs
What shot size do you use? 1 1/8 #7.5?
Usually 7 1/2, 3/4 oz or 1 1/8 oz. I think 2 3/4" shell with 3/4 oz is plenty.
Just curious what time of your you guys go up? Big quail and pheasant hunter wanting to grouse hunt with my pups too
Mid October when leaves are falling usually.
What part of the UP is this?
Western
Upper Peninsula Grouse numbers way down this year. Terrible. Sad to see.
You have better eyesight than me.
Ha ha, sometimes I shoot with my eyes closed JK
The only bad part of hunting the western U.P. is it just takes too damn long to get there.......
Ha Ha, that it does.😄
I'm a beginner and wanting to train my dog. He's a 1.5 year old retriever. Do any of you think it's too late to train him or will it come naturally?
Derek, I feel it is never too late to train a dog. I have an 8 yr old GSP I still train.
What part of the u.p
Western
Hey Y’ALL ,
