Stock Mitsubishi Pajero 4x4 - First time off road

  • Throwback video of a Weekend trip through Beachport a few years ago.
    One of our first off road trips in the stock Pajero.
    All the 4WD's were challenged that day and almost all the cars (Pajeros, Prados, Landcuisers, Patrols) were bogged and needed recovery at some stage.
    Now a few years later, after some mods (as you can see in my other videos) the beast certainly doesn't look or drive like it does now!

    The tires were the issue here. Big difference to what the Toyota has, those tires look more for road than off road. Pressure also

      Pajero is the better truck than the land rover with the right tires and more capable

    Looks like your tyre pressures are way too high. With less agressive tread and more flexible sidewalls than your Mickey Thompsons and 16psi, your pajero should get through stuff like at 3:10 without even putting it in 4x4. I know, I have the same vehicle and I've been driving on beach and sand dunes for over 30 years in various vehicles (including an old Ford Transit van, which never once got bogged). On the Pajero, I've found Nitto Terra Grapplers and Pirelli AT+ to both be excellent on the sand and pretty bloody good elsewhere. Stay away from LT rated tyres for sand driving, you need more flex in the side walls.

    Turn of traction control i have a 2016 Pajero and it goes easy thru sand 14 psi no problems low range or high rear diff on goes thru everything.

      @@TabVentures no i turn it off by engaging the rear dif lock and or low range aswell both work I never installed tc wiring loom but just having correct tire pressure and momentum helps a lot as well we did the beach port trail and it’s a lot of fun got stuck once but with some practice and better tyres you’ll be set.

    • @pugnut403
      @pugnut403 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RILEY bell can’t turn off traction control in a Gen 4 Pajero, only stability control. The only way to turn off traction control is if you have a factory locker, engaging that disables TC.

    What tyres run better on sand?

    • @TabVentures
      @TabVentures  ปีที่แล้ว

      broad question.. but a set of good mud or ATs will do the job.. the more the surface area the better so the bigger/wider and make sure you deflate

      It’s not about the traction control it’s about the tire pressure, that paj would have done so much better with less air

    • @pugnut403
      @pugnut403 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stock standard you cannot turn traction control off, but you CAN turn stability control off, and if you don’t you WILL bog in sand.
      You can pull the ABS fuse which will also disable traction control, or if you have the optional rear diff lock engaging that will disable TC, or there is a wiring mod you can do to add a TC disable switch. Google “vlad mod Pajero” and you will find it.

      @@TabVentures I'm not familiar with how the sand is close to the beach ,but in the desert we usually bring down our LWB pajero tyres to 12psi , provided u have 16 or 17 inch rims 😀

    • @TabVentures
      @TabVentures  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kunalshetty7144 Good call bro. Yes i've gone down as low as 12psi when the sand is really soft. Driving on the beach is often above the hightide mark where the sand is dry but can also loose like it is in the dunes. The challenge on the beach is watching the tides and knowing when low and high is. I've been caught driving as the tide hits the sand, you instantly feel the ground give way when it is wet.

      Stock they lack clearance, but they are far from useless... I took mine up Old Hilux Hill at Landcruiser Mountain Park yesterday...red “extreme” track. Had to winch over one rock ledge that I got hung up on, but once the 2” lift goes in she will walk that too. Optional factory locker is magic, it went everywhere the big boys went except where I didn’t have the ground clearance.
      2” lift, bigger tyres, and rock sliders are on my list...
