Aidan starts podcast saying he never really understood Pink Floyd...then proceeds to describe a lot of the story behind "The Wall" with all the school stuff! :P
I usually skipped the Skillshare ads in other channel. But Aidan narrates it very well I ended up watching the whole section 😂 Good Job mate, happy with the progress you made on this channel. And welcome back, survivor.
I'm 32, I trained at 16 in mechanical and maintenance engineering, got told by everyone I needed experience, spent years doing shitty warehouse and factory jobs but got experience in everything I wanted to do and I have recently got a job doing what I want to do in a company willing to teach me thanks to my brother who has helped me learn over the years, I can relate to the "we need someone with experience" bullshit
I read his book How To Build A Car, it a fantastic read and goes into lots of detail about his life as well as some of the cars he designed . He's a true legend of our sport!
I read Adrian Newey's book and used it as research for my EPQ at school. I'm sure you've been recommended it before as you mentioned it, but it really is brilliant.
But my favourite McLaren livery has to be the MP4-31, that just looks amazing, but that was after Newey left for Red Bull and also the last of the McLaren MP "series" cars.. I love the Rich Energy slander at 14:39 as well.
Y'know, your -Story Time- Racing History podcast actually inspired me to make my own car-related science/history/knowledge podcast series on my other channel. I even went the smooth jazz route. Somehow it fits better than some fancy electronic music. So thanks for inspiring me, Aidan.
"Newey is the only DESIGNER who has won titles with three different teams" - 1st - Newey is not a designer since 1998. He is technical director since he has left Williams in Nov. 1996. 2nd - Ross Brawn has won titles with 3 different teams. Even before Newey. Brawns role was TD, TD and Team Boss, but Neweys role, like i already said, was also not Designer when he won his 3 titles. He was Designer when he won his Williams titles only. After that he was TD.
A couple of quick notes on the Indycar days. The title in '85 was won by Al Sr., not Jr. (who was driving a Lola). For '86 he moved over to the Kraco team and was engineer for Michael Andretti, finishing runner-up in points. He spent '87 as engineer for Newman/Haas (Mario Andretti) and the fast but teething Chevy/Ilmor engine.
On the one hand: Oof indeed, writing off those cars. On the other hand: Better they be sent to Valhalla doing what they were designed for than sitting in a garage!
I know the whole school bully thing is awful. But there's a hilarious short movie called "Tomkinsons school days " from the TV series Ripping Yarns I think it's called.
One trait that was explained in the original version was Newey's rampant left-handedness. It is often said that great figures in history tend to be left-handed - people like Mahatma Gandhi and Mystery Science Theatre 3000 creator Joel Hodgson. But neither Gandhi or Joel had the balls to redecorate Ron Dennis's office when he wasn't looking. And all this from a fellow Warwickshirista. So the question is - where the hell did I go wrong?
I recently read his book (how to build a car) And i found out about in a ferrari bad meme. And its started my f1 reading habit,i’ve read his book, webbers book, will buxtons book and im currently reading brundles book,( and how dare you say disco is bad)
I’d like to say that as an amateur musician and proud metalhead I totally get why you aren’t into Floyd or Zeppelin. People that intentionally play Pink Floyd in earshot of other people are either A: actual fans, or B: trying too hard to impress people they don’t know.
Shouldn’t Newey leave RB for a team that actually appreciates his genius? Since Verstappens arrival, the car seem to be solely accepted as an excuse not to deliver. He seems to have singlehandedly reduced Newey from being by far the most celebrated designer of his era to some shady backdoor garagista, only capable of making dodgy one-dimensional cars that still would lack the speed...
Seriously? He enjoys it at Red Bull. So - Why should he leave? And to his cars - its not like his cars are always the best ones. In the 90's his cars probably were always the best cars, with Rory Byrne challenging him, and literally "overtaking" him, because Rorys concepts were better and more balanced in the early 00's. Since the late 00's all teams have the infrastructure and the tools to build good cars. And Neweys cars often were weaker in certain areas, especially in the hybrid era. So its not like anyone had wrongly inflicted him when his car was made responsible for not winning...and in F1 the short comings have to be adressed, there is nothing wrong with that, as long as it is not adressed in a negative way. So its not like Red Bull had done him wrong. Its a fact that Rorys cars were better than Neweys from 2001-2004. And that Mercedes Collective Design Team designed better cars than Newey since 2014. But finally - its wrong anyway to say that Newey DESIGNS the Red Bulls. Newey has more of an overviewing role. He is not really designing the Red Bull Cars since many years....
No he didn't. He felt responsible since Newey didn't want to change the overall design of the FW-16 since it was still quite aerodynamically effective by the time the 1994 season came around. Listen to the words dumbass.

You know you've made it when Skillshare is the sponsor of the video. Congrats man, well deserved!
Someone should make a tier list of TH-cam sponsors.

These are all extremely good podcasts, well researched, written and presented.
Very good news with the sponsorship.... he is a real TH-camr now - well done

I could listen to this guy all day long. Keep it up, mate! 👍🏻
Yes. The Jedi Master of Aerodynamics himself that is Adrian Newey. GOAT of car designs.

More Story Ti- I mean Racing Podcast, good way to kick off the weekend
Why nobody just make a Gentleman race of all Adrian Neweys cars? Just a Gentleman race.
Im glad you clarified "Loud mouthed South Yorkshireman" ....i thought you were talking about me for a second lol

Great stuff Aidan. Your scripts are a great advert for Skillshare ;)
Great episode. Top work
Glad ya feeling better. Keep up the great work!
Subbed purely on the fact that you never got into Floyd or Zeppelin. Being a musician. In Britain.
Nice.
3 indy 500 winning cars, and countless f1 cars.....

Glad you are feeling better and congrats on the sponsorship.
‘Newey almost signed for jaaaaaaaaaggggggg’
Having grown up in the Stratford region, I can confirm the Shakespeare thing, they are a wee bit obsessed with the fellow.
Ayyyy a sponsor get in Aidan
I think it's hilarious that Newey skirted the dress code with his shoes as if they were part of an F1 car xD. Genius
Now you need the Map Men inspired Skill Share adverts.
Not his style i think.
@@Eroadmodel very true, but would be a very interesting twist.
Finally. Aidan is sponsored.
although i won't use Skillshare and i don't like add, i am happy that you can monetise your videos and make money out of it.
You deserves it.
Why would you ever thumbs down this video? Haters gone hate
Great video as always
It would be cool if you could use analogue vu meters as your background.

my geriatric connection from down the road managed to crash his MHR back '94. Parts still available - but I have to check first.
Wow shillshare! Congrats man 👍
Aidan Millwad I have a cool recommendation for you. What if you ran the FIA.
hi Aidan! When will your podcast be on Overcast?
At the time, nobody noticed why Capelli took the lead at the 1990 French grand prix.

Ah, that oft repeated myth. Vettel didn't actually break his wing at Silverstone. The part failed and just collapsed mid-corner.
