  • Honey season is fun. Clean-up after harvesting honey, especially if you're a small honey producer, can be a pain. That is - unless you let bees do what bees do. I have grown to love clean-up because it gives me another moment to watch bees at work. #beekeeper #beekeeping #honeybee #harvestinghoney

I have the same “Hive Butler” uncapping box. I am amazed at how much honey moves to the lower drain box during uncapping. It looks like you had a good season. After the bees get through cleaning,” I use a high pressure hose to scour the tools first then soap and water. My hardest to clean tool is the strainer. I wish someone would invent a quick way to clean them. I only have a few plastic queen excluders left because I find them very hard to clean. Let us know your secret for cleaning excluders. Good video.

I really like the butler. Yes, this was a really good season in North Texas! The strainer is definitely tricky. I have found that cold water is best in most instances. Hot water just makes the wax hold tighter. The only exception is that I have occasionally boiled it to get wax off. For queen excluders, I exclusively use metal. That way I can use a torch and a wire brush if the grates are clogged.
