A friend of mine was really impressed with the family dynamics in Avatar. I guess pretty pictures and all aside, it's also extremely refreshing to see a man act like a man, and more importantly, a dad acting like a dad.
Yes I love the family dynamic where the mother threatens to kill her adopted son than never apologizes or addresses it. Meanwhile, the villain cares more for the kid than his mother who raised him.

I remember at the end of season 1 in GoT when that unexpected thing happened to Sean Bean, From that point on for 4 seasons you couldn't do anything but hope your favourite character survived the show. It was brutal and how random people got Blipped. Anything movie related these days you can almost guess who is what. The glass onion was so obvious. (spoilers) When I saw the Cast, 3 white people and a benneton advert. Daniel craig is discounted as he's playing Foghorn Leghorn the detective which leaves 2 white actors. instantly I said out loud bet one is the killer and the other is the victim. The defence rests your Honour. The Clint Eastwood pale rider = Logan.
Long time follower and usually quiet observer here. The one genre that I truly love is detective fiction, especially fiction written during the golden age (between the two world wars.) I knew the 10 commandments by heart, I literally gave a 45 minute speech in high school about crime literature. I have somewhere between 200-300 crime books (Agatha Christie, John Dickson Carr, Elery Queen, G.K. Chesterton etc, Dorothy L. Sayers just to name a few) in my home and probably read at least one good murder mystery per week. And I do not think that I have ever felt so insulted by any movie that claimned to be a detective story, than by Rian Johnsons movies. The simple fact that he even dares to proclaim that he is telling a detective story almost gave a stroke. If this movie had come out during the age of crime fiction, heck, if this entire travesty of a murder mystery (because that is all that it truly is. A travesty) would have been released during this time, this talented egomaniac would have been laughed out of any publishing house. And yet here we are, in 2022 and this absolut shitshow of a movie gets lauded as a great murder mystery. It is neither great nor a mystery, it breaks half of all the commandments you should follow with the nice addition of shoving a good dose of political agenda down our throat. The only thing R.J. deserves is to go bancrupt and never be hired again, I shudder to think what this incompetent clown tries to write next.
I think Rian Johnson has put forth some interesting ideas in his movies but he really needs to let someone be co-writer with him as every one of his movies falls apart (even the "good ones") as nonsense if you start to poke at the writing and whether the screenplay makes sense. The guy isn't near as good a writer as he thinks he is.

Once upon a time, I loved buying DVDs. When they were first released, they only contained the movie and I would wait weeks if not months for the Special Edition to be released. I loved all the extras included on the disc from behind-the-scenes/making-of footage, to gag reels, to cast commentaries. At some point - probably around the decline of movie quality, maybe 2016ish - I started caring less about all that. Instead of buying DVDs, I would find copies of movies from...alternate sources. And even when a movie I was excited about was released, I didn't care enough about it to shell out $35 for a case with a DVD, Blue Ray disc AND digital copy with only shit extras like "Alternate Lines" and "Director Commentary".
I love scanning for dirt cheap quality at thrift stores. A while ago I found original special edition Hellboy 2 blu-ray, for one euro. Some dvd's I've bought for one euro sell for 50 online. The point is, because of streaming, old used discs are really cheap, and seems like people haven't figured out the value of physical media yet.
Reean Johnson wanted to be one of those directors that are misunderstood geniuses whose movies weren't loved at the time. That's why he wants people to hate his movies. But those past directors never meant for that.
They spent so much money on the cast, sets and the marketing but I would place Glass Onion in the same category as Murder Mystery with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. It's your straight-to-streaming movie for a lazy Sunday.

It's at the end when Helen burns the Mona Lisa that Daniel Craig says "disruption" and smiles like they just did a good thing by destroying a beloved classic. that was Rian Johnson's defense of burning Star Wars.
Mulholland Drive too for sure. So many pretend to know that they understand it. Yet it was really a TV pilot (which naturally did not have a complete plot but instead was totally open-ended as it was meant to go on for many seasons) which was rejected, which Lynch then made into a film by adding some scenes to it. Lynch refuses to give any explanation about its plot, and I'm sure it does not have one.

I watched the glass onion without knowing it was a sequal or the real premise of the film. Untill the halfway mark I honestly though it was a satire or comedy for how bad it was, which made it good. Untill the reveal of the twin, then the curtain for me dropped and it went to shit, fast.

I can't belive that people say that Glass Onion is a good mystery film. I genuinely thought it was a parody when I watched it. I mean the movie starts with a puzzle box. And then you're introduced to all the cliché characters movie... Even the title of the movie is referenced throughout.
I'd already written off the movie after seeing the previous one, but after they arrived on the island, I started to have a bit of hope for a mildly entertaining parody ending. That it was going to have an endless friendship-destroying search for the killer and then it would be revealed at the last moment that everyone had forgotten that random friend of Miles on the island and he would be the one who did it. The twist being that he had obviously done it based on a barely noticed factoid in the middle, but everyone was wasting time investigating their friends due to each "disruptor" having a clear motive while the down-on-his-luck friend had none and was barely remembered by the cast.
A few cliche characters is fine in a mystery, but literally every character was super dimensionless. I hated everyone on screen for all 30 minutes I watched.

I remember when Knives Out came out. I heard so many good things, the cast was great and I held no ill will towards Johnson for TLJ. (Now I do) I was genuinely looking forward to seeing it. In his best stories wasn’t un-killable he was just insanely tough and could take a lot of damage, then they took it to the cartoonish extreme of him surviving nukes to the face. Logan did a really good job of showing how lethal and savage he can be while still being vulnerable.

I ended up missing this on Thursday... and I really felt it's loss, which also made me realised I'd been watching them all everytime and looking forward to the bar opening - far more entertaining and engaging than all of the shows written for "modern audiences".

I've only ever seen the twin thing work once and that was in Columbo when Martin Landau played twins. It's the only episode where, at the start, we don't know who did it - the twin concept is used ironically to undermine the usual format of the show.
I'd argue the prestige worked well enough. Its hinted at throughout and the whole point, gimmicky as it is, is that the twins have wrapped their entire lives around the act (magicians taking their acts too seriously is kinda the theme) so i makes sense that noone knows about the twins, not even one of thems wife.

One interesting thing about Logan and the nerfed healing factor. There were multiple plot related things impacting his ability. Age, the metal poisoning, the parasite effects from Wolverine, the wear and tear he took over the years, plus the company (forget the name) was putting mutation suppressing chemicals in the food and water. Which just goes to show how powerful his healing factor was. To be impacted by that much and yet still able to continue.
“I don’t understand this so it must be really smart”. That’s why the original Twin Peaks was so over-hyped. When people realised it wasn’t this massively super-smart show it was just a rather surreal fantasy show, the popularity crashed.

Did that also happen with Lost as well. It seemed like a clever mystery but became apparent that not much was ever going to be resolved and it made little sense.

For a couple of decades now, I've wanted to be a jester. I've watched so many companies make so many mistakes... When I worked at RIM I thought, "If only I was in the room with Mike Lazaridis when he made that choice, BlackBerry might not be imploding." I've had a career of trying to explain to people how they were making mistakes, being told to know my place, watching things fall apart, and having to work harder to clean up the mess while they blame anything but themselves for the failure. It's hard being intelligent in the modern world. Everyone thinks they're on par with everyone else. They don't know they're not as smart as you. They refuse to believe it when it's demonstrated. When someone is physically massive, people recognize it visually and there's a certain amount of deferrence in physical situations. When your brain is equivalent to the physical presence of Arnold Schwarzenneger, there's no way to demonstrate it. People refuse to believe they're not as smart as everyone around them.
Yah, the ego of these people is too massive to entertain the thought that maybe, just maybe, they should let people who know better do their jobs instead of trying to influence other peoples works with their bullshit. Then there's those who get a job in a position they're clearly not meant to fill (all the writting team of She-Hulk), which leads to disasters, all because of hiring politics being fucked up. Hope you at least get to participate from time to time in projects where the crew is competent and the higher-ups let you do your job
Speaking of directors we'd like to see on certain films, while I'm ambivalent at best when it comes to Dead Space, I feel like Paul W.S. Anderson would be a decent choice as a director (or at least producer), due to Event Horizon and Pandorum both being solid underrated dark sci-fi horror films that have the same kind of atmosphere. Hell, Pandorum already pretty much IS Dead Space with the whole "protagonist navigates derelict space ship while battling mutated monsters" premise, minus the totally-not-Iron-Man-armor engineer suit.
In my day, ~Thursday was student night. And it was awesome. 50p vodka cokes and £1 lemon hooches. Thursday nights at the garage were better than anywhere else in the Glasgow city centre on a Saturday night.
Fun fact I work in finance, within film/tv won't say which co. Avatar 2's theatre/cinema release they had a bit of an open window as cinemas filled it with all their screens; and nobody wanted to release a film against it in that window... unless it's one you're sending out to die... That definitely would have helped the box office figures, and it needs to perform as if it bombs Avatar 3; won't get the same "window"
I will admit I found the anchor baby line funny in Knives Out, but mostly because there was a running joke in my family that the reason great grandpa and great grandma had 13 kids was to make sure great grandpa didn’t get deported.
It's really interesting having Disparu on the panel, because of the opinions he brings. He cares more about characters and fun than a tight plot. He likes the prequel star wars because there are more jedi fights, and he didn't enjoy Logan. I think it brings a different perspective on what makes a good and bad movie. It also shows just how horrible some series like willow, she-hulk, etc... really are as no one enjoys them. People who want tight scripts hate it, and people looking for a good time hate it.
Disparu is definitely the weakest reviewer of the group. He has a poor internal movie library, he hasn’t seen many films by the sounds of it. He’s out of place and out of his depth in a lot of these discussions.

Honestly, Imhotep got kinda fucked in the second one. If he somehow DOES come back, I doubt he'll be happy about it. Definitely won't be motivated the same way he was, since his waifu abandoned him at the end of 2. Might make for a cool 'the enemy is now your ally' thing though, especially if we get to see him go mano a mano with another heavy magic user. That kinda shit can get very fun, especially with the sort of ridiculous that he can do.
Never saw glass onion. But listening to those rules I’m reminded of Columbo in double shock. The twins were revealed appropriately, and all the clues were out in the open for anyone to put together. The tv going out, for how long, what that means, the fact that two people had to be involved once you out other clues together. They could have done that in glass onion. Also Columbo proves that lots of rich people suck :) of course, speaking of twins, in the eyewitness there was a surprise twin reveal but it was done very well. The audience was along for the same ride as the murderer. We were thinking as well that Columbo staged a scene to make it look like a blind man wasn’t blind. Until he started reading. Brilliantly done. As you lot describe the contrived nonsense in these movies I’m forced to think back to way better writing 50 years ago.

BBC used to be a powerhouse. The OG _House of Cards_ about the Parliament in 1990 was a masterpiece. The main actor had a sly gallows humor about himwhere he could mock someone to their face and the person think he was complimenting them, and then he cheekily turns to the camera and explains exactly how to dismantle this person's psyche, and then goes right back into wishing that person a good evening like they're the best of friends. Peak British satire and biting political commentary that's well-earned. And this is not to mention _Blackadder_

The reason the Terminator franschise doesn't work anymore is because we live in a diffrent world than 1984. The first movies are about fears of a post-industrial society, where then-robots and computers started to run everything. Now we live in Information Age, where people want computers to shut down other people.
Bear McCreay did the theme for Defiance (Game and TV Show) and while some might find those productions forgettable, the theme is pretty damned good. - very much in the vein of his Battlestar work.
He also did the music for The Walking Dead, which is extremely iconic if nothing else. (I don't know if he did work on the show itself but the score is pretty forgettable outside that). He also did the soundtrack for King of the Monsters, which was especially great because he got to use Akira Ifukube and Yuji Koseki's themes for Godzilla and Mothra, the former of which he praised as being the oldest leitmotif still in use in film. The soundtrack is fun and it's obvious he gave a shit; seeing him attached to a project gets me a lot more interested in watching it.

TARANTINO! You need to give him more respect, he’s one of the few “auteur Directors” still working today, with an unmistakable writing and directing style and a track record of quality. He excels and is more rounded at every aspect of filmmaking, perhaps more than anyone. Tarantino can disassemble and reassemble a story, make it nonlinear, but still have it make sense and all of the story beats and plot points line up perfect. It’s insulting to Tarantino that Rian Johnson gets to call himself a filmmaker, because it’s almost like a completely different medium altogether.

They didnt just come in and immediately beat down the people with the racist views and be elevated to pillars of the community. Holy cow, you overcome issues without vitriol, sticking up for yourself and perseverance to build a better community? Whaaaat the fuck kind of messaging is that?! Notice that just because they look different, and have specialized differently, doesnt make them less capable to save your ass and help you protect your own... We need more movies that try to build different people together, acknoledge differences but show that they dont matter or in fact help. So much of today's media and mindset is seperationist and it's dumb... The thing that really bothered me was the Spider saving the Col. I didnt feel like they built up the character, nor the relationship enough for that save...

I propose a Starwars movie competition. Any director can throw their hat in the ring and create a Star Wars sequel, however only the best grossing movie will be considered cannon. All the other movies will be considered non-cannon fanfiction, moreover, if any movie outsells the Episode 7 it will replace it as cannon and invalidate ep. 8 and 9.

My missus was watching glass onion last night and I can safely say that even sat there on my phone, with it just on in the background it sounded shit. She also fell asleep 2/3 way through so I turned it off lol.
I found Glass Onion entertaining until the third act, it's enjoyable as a dumb parody of a classic murder mystery. I argue that it's supposed to be less intelligent than it appears to some decree, Beatles made the song Glass Onion to mock the people who tried to find deeper meaning from things that just don't have it. The last section of the film just ruins my impression of it. First you have the triple coincidence of the diary blocking the bullet, the detective having the hot sauce and no one coming closer to check the body. Awfully convenient, but I could've stomached it. But then you have the entire section where the guy burns the handkerchief and the woman just commits arson in front of half a dozen people and somehow both gets away with it and wins the sympathy of the guests. It would've felt conclusive to just have the perpetrator get caught when the evidence was found, but I think Rian Johnson thought that you really need an explosion at the end.
43:27 this can also go too far, Game of Thrones for an example. Later seasons the writers wanted to surprise the audience so much that the writing started to take damage and the end product became mediocre.
My wife had put on the glass onion movie, I only half paid attention to like a quarter of it but what I saw seemed pretty dumb (and as soon as I saw Edward Norton, I knew he was the bad guy). A while after the movie, my wife and I were talking about mystery movies and she brought up the knives out movies (I haven't seen the first one). I said, sure they're "mystery movies" but they're not and they're just silly. She replied that they're supposed to be goofy, kinda like clue.... Now, again, I'm not a knives out expert seeing as I've only watched part of the second, but I've never thought they are comedies, which my wife apparently believes they are. I always thought they were supposed to be taken as a serious murder mystery. If they are, then they've made the story so baffling and goofy, my wife thought it was a comedy.
Isn't the ending of Knives Out too serious if it was meant to be a comedy satire. The maid got everything and said "F you all" to the victim's entire family. The revelation of her not being the murderer, but was set up to kill the old rich man's death also was framed to be a cathartic scene. Inb4 Rian pulled The Room situation with Glass Onion and says "it was all meant to be comedy".

I don't think it's that surprising Knives Out and its sequel did well, dumb people love to feel smart and poorly written muder mysteries is basically the perfect genre that fits the niche.
They could have explored so many things in Avatar 2 Earth dying Settlements on Pandora The moral dilema of doing to Pandora what killed Earth None of that was even glanced over. It was barely mentioned, even bringing back the Colonel was low effort. Avatar 3 will either have to be part one and two or be as shallow as this one.
It brought me physical pain to hear Disparu shit all over the character of Chuck from Better call Saul. He’s one of the greatest characters of all time. He’s meant to be both hated and sympathetic and if you only watch him in season 1 no shit you don’t like him you didn’t give any time for his development. His arc was one of the best in the whole show imo.
I love the character development of Drinker. Last stream he didn't know polls existed. This time he jumps at it before ANYONE. Absolutely masterful writing

I remember at the end of season 1 in GoT when that unexpected thing happened to Sean Bean, From that point on for 4 seasons you couldn't do anything but hope your favourite character survived the show. It was brutal and how random people got Blipped. Anything movie related these days you can almost guess who is what. The glass onion was so obvious. (spoilers) When I saw the Cast, 3 white people and a benneton advert. Daniel craig is discounted as he's playing Foghorn Leghorn the detective which leaves 2 white actors. instantly I said out loud bet one is the killer and the other is the victim. The defence rests your Honour. The Clint Eastwood pale rider = Logan.

The one genre that I truly love is detective fiction, especially fiction written during the golden age (between the two world wars.) I knew the 10 commandments by heart, I literally gave a 45 minute speech in high school about crime literature. I have somewhere between 200-300 crime books (Agatha Christie, John Dickson Carr, Elery Queen, G.K. Chesterton etc, Dorothy L. Sayers just to name a few) in my home and probably read at least one good murder mystery per week.
And I do not think that I have ever felt so insulted by any movie that claimned to be a detective story, than by Rian Johnsons movies. The simple fact that he even dares to proclaim that he is telling a detective story almost gave a stroke.
If this movie had come out during the age of crime fiction, heck, if this entire travesty of a murder mystery (because that is all that it truly is. A travesty) would have been released during this time, this talented egomaniac would have been laughed out of any publishing house.
And yet here we are, in 2022 and this absolut shitshow of a movie gets lauded as a great murder mystery. It is neither great nor a mystery, it breaks half of all the commandments you should follow with the nice addition of shoving a good dose of political agenda down our throat.
The only thing R.J. deserves is to go bancrupt and never be hired again, I shudder to think what this incompetent clown tries to write next.

I think Rian Johnson has put forth some interesting ideas in his movies but he really needs to let someone be co-writer with him as every one of his movies falls apart (even the "good ones") as nonsense if you start to poke at the writing and whether the screenplay makes sense. Once upon a time, I loved buying DVDs. When they were first released, they only contained the movie and I would wait weeks if not months for the Special Edition to be released. I loved all the extras included on the disc from behind-the-scenes/making-of footage, to gag reels, to cast commentaries.
At some point - probably around the decline of movie quality, maybe 2016ish - I started caring less about all that. Instead of buying DVDs, I would find copies of movies from...alternate sources. And even when a movie I was excited about was released, I didn't care enough about it to shell out $35 for a case with a DVD, Blue Ray disc AND digital copy with only shit extras like "Alternate Lines" and "Director Commentary".
I love scanning for dirt cheap quality at thrift stores. A while ago I found original special edition Hellboy 2 blu-ray, for one euro. Some dvd's I've bought for one euro sell for 50 online. The point is, because of streaming, old used discs are really cheap, and seems like people haven't figured out the value of physical media yet.

Reean Johnson wanted to be one of those directors that are misunderstood geniuses whose movies weren't loved at the time. That's why he wants people to hate his movies. But those past directors never meant for that.
They spent so much money on the cast, sets and the marketing but I would place Glass Onion in the same category as Murder Mystery with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. It's your straight-to-streaming movie for a lazy Sunday.

Yet it was really a TV pilot (which naturally did not have a complete plot but instead was totally open-ended as it was meant to go on for many seasons) which was rejected, which Lynch then made into a film by adding some scenes to it. Lynch refuses to give any explanation about its plot, and I'm sure it does not have one.

I watched the glass onion without knowing it was a sequal or the real premise of the film. Untill the halfway mark I honestly though it was a satire or comedy for how bad it was, which made it good. Untill the reveal of the twin, then the curtain for me dropped and it went to shit, fast.

I can't belive that people say that Glass Onion is a good mystery film. I genuinely thought it was a parody when I watched it.
I mean the movie starts with a puzzle box. And then you're introduced to all the cliché characters movie... Even the title of the movie is referenced throughout.
I'd already written off the movie after seeing the previous one, but after they arrived on the island, I started to have a bit of hope for a mildly entertaining parody ending. That it was going to have an endless friendship-destroying search for the killer and then it would be revealed at the last moment that everyone had forgotten that random friend of Miles on the island and he would be the one who did it. The twist being that he had obviously done it based on a barely noticed factoid in the middle, but everyone was wasting time investigating their friends due to each "disruptor" having a clear motive while the down-on-his-luck friend had none and was barely remembered by the cast.
A few cliche characters is fine in a mystery, but literally every character was super dimensionless. I hated everyone on screen for all 30 minutes I watched.
It is a parody in a sense. It’s absurdist satire. It’s a mediocre movie but one that never meant to be taken seriously nonetheless

2:04:00 nerfed wolverine is the best wolverine. In his best stories wasn’t un-killable he was just insanely tough and could take a lot of damage, then they took it to the cartoonish extreme of him surviving nukes to the face. Logan did a really good job of showing how lethal and savage he can be while still being vulnerable.
This was definitely the worst take from Disparu. Especially, when he then had trouble remembering the name of PROFESSOR X!!
The instant Disparu stated he couldn't stand Logan.... I knew Mauler would press him on why. I shared the reaction he had....the "ooohh...what was that?"
I ended up missing this on Thursday... and I really felt it's loss, which also made me realised I'd been watching them all everytime and looking forward to the bar opening - far more entertaining and engaging than all of the shows written for "modern audiences".

I've only ever seen the twin thing work once and that was in Columbo when Martin Landau played twins. It's the only episode where, at the start, we don't know who did it - the twin concept is used ironically to undermine the usual format of the show.
I'd argue the prestige worked well enough. Its hinted at throughout and the whole point, gimmicky as it is, is that the twins have wrapped their entire lives around the act (magicians taking their acts too seriously is kinda the theme) so i makes sense that noone knows about the twins, not even one of thems wife.

One interesting thing about Logan and the nerfed healing factor. There were multiple plot related things impacting his ability. Age, the metal poisoning, the parasite effects from Wolverine, the wear and tear he took over the years, plus the company (forget the name) was putting mutation suppressing chemicals in the food and water. Which just goes to show how powerful his healing factor was. To be impacted by that much and yet still able to continue.

I've had a career of trying to explain to people how they were making mistakes, being told to know my place, watching things fall apart, and having to work harder to clean up the mess while they blame anything but themselves for the failure.
It's hard being intelligent in the modern world. Everyone thinks they're on par with everyone else. They don't know they're not as smart as you. They refuse to believe it when it's demonstrated. When someone is physically massive, people recognize it visually and there's a certain amount of deferrence in physical situations. When your brain is equivalent to the physical presence of Arnold Schwarzenneger, there's no way to demonstrate it. People refuse to believe they're not as smart as everyone around them.
Yah, the ego of these people is too massive to entertain the thought that maybe, just maybe, they should let people who know better do their jobs instead of trying to influence other peoples works with their bullshit. Then there's those who get a job in a position they're clearly not meant to fill (all the writting team of She-Hulk), which leads to disasters, all because of hiring politics being fucked up. Hope you at least get to participate from time to time in projects where the crew is competent and the higher-ups let you do your job
Speaking of directors we'd like to see on certain films, while I'm ambivalent at best when it comes to Dead Space, I feel like Paul W.S. Anderson would be a decent choice as a director (or at least producer), due to Event Horizon and Pandorum both being solid underrated dark sci-fi horror films that have the same kind of atmosphere. Hell, Pandorum already pretty much IS Dead Space with the whole "protagonist navigates derelict space ship while battling mutated monsters" premise, minus the totally-not-Iron-Man-armor engineer suit.

Avatar 2's theatre/cinema release they had a bit of an open window as cinemas filled it with all their screens; and nobody wanted to release a film against it in that window... unless it's one you're sending out to die...

It's really interesting having Disparu on the panel, because of the opinions he brings. He cares more about characters and fun than a tight plot. He likes the prequel star wars because there are more jedi fights, and he didn't enjoy Logan.
I think it brings a different perspective on what makes a good and bad movie. It also shows just how horrible some series like willow, she-hulk, etc... really are as no one enjoys them. People who want tight scripts hate it, and people looking for a good time hate it.

Disparu is definitely the weakest reviewer of the group. He has a poor internal movie library, he hasn’t seen many films by the sounds of it. He’s out of place and out of his depth in a lot of these discussions.

Honestly, Imhotep got kinda fucked in the second one. If he somehow DOES come back, I doubt he'll be happy about it. Definitely won't be motivated the same way he was, since his waifu abandoned him at the end of 2. Might make for a cool 'the enemy is now your ally' thing though, especially if we get to see him go mano a mano with another heavy magic user. That kinda shit can get very fun, especially with the sort of ridiculous that he can do.
Never saw glass onion. But listening to those rules I’m reminded of Columbo in double shock. The twins were revealed appropriately, and all the clues were out in the open for anyone to put together. The tv going out, for how long, what that means, the fact that two people had to be involved once you out other clues together. They could have done that in glass onion. Also Columbo proves that lots of rich people suck :) of course, speaking of twins, in the eyewitness there was a surprise twin reveal but it was done very well. The audience was along for the same ride as the murderer. We were thinking as well that Columbo staged a scene to make it look like a blind man wasn’t blind. Until he started reading. Brilliantly done. As you lot describe the contrived nonsense in these movies I’m forced to think back to way better writing 50 years ago.
I told you guys, they will produce sooo much sht movies and shows that eventually people will be satisfied with nice looking crap that plays some relaxing music in the background.

@@nsaylor9 In general, yes. In an industry that is (or was?) packed with the best talent in the country and the most resources, no it shouldn't be. Hollywood is famous for a reason, but you wouldn't know it from today's movies.
BBC used to be a powerhouse. The OG _House of Cards_ about the Parliament in 1990 was a masterpiece. The main actor had a sly gallows humor about himwhere he could mock someone to their face and the person think he was complimenting them, and then he cheekily turns to the camera and explains exactly how to dismantle this person's psyche, and then goes right back into wishing that person a good evening like they're the best of friends. Peak British satire and biting political commentary that's well-earned.
And this is not to mention _Blackadder_

Avatar 2 is a movie for people who don't really watch movies and don't really like Scifi in general.
It’s a meh movie that was made to looks pretty and not much else, just like the first movie.
Glass Bunion was a chaotic mess, a classic example of someone trying to be clever when they are not.
The reason the Terminator franschise doesn't work anymore is because we live in a diffrent world than 1984. The first movies are about fears of a post-industrial society, where then-robots and computers started to run everything. Now we live in Information Age, where people want computers to shut down other people.
People start 3D printing Hunter-Killer drones and sending them after randos who piss them off.
Bear McCreay did the theme for Defiance (Game and TV Show) and while some might find those productions forgettable, the theme is pretty damned good. - very much in the vein of his Battlestar work.
He also did the music for The Walking Dead, which is extremely iconic if nothing else. (I don't know if he did work on the show itself but the score is pretty forgettable outside that). He also did the soundtrack for King of the Monsters, which was especially great because he got to use Akira Ifukube and Yuji Koseki's themes for Godzilla and Mothra, the former of which he praised as being the oldest leitmotif still in use in film. The soundtrack is fun and it's obvious he gave a shit; seeing him attached to a project gets me a lot more interested in watching it.
Bad white villian tries desperately at the end to save one of the worlds great pieces of art while our black heroine gleefully burns it to shreds losing it to the world forever ,,and we are meant to be cheering for her !!!

TARANTINO! You need to give him more respect, he’s one of the few “auteur Directors” still working today, with an unmistakable writing and directing style and a track record of quality.
He excels and is more rounded at every aspect of filmmaking, perhaps more than anyone.
Tarantino can disassemble and reassemble a story, make it nonlinear, but still have it make sense and all of the story beats and plot points line up perfect.
It’s insulting to Tarantino that Rian Johnson gets to call himself a filmmaker, because it’s almost like a completely different medium altogether.

I mean this is a kid that grew up with her kids, a friend of them, and she still considers It a disposable/detestable being. It also allowed for overcoming racism through actions, holy shit dude. They didnt just come in and immediately beat down the people with the racist views and be elevated to pillars of the community. Holy cow, you overcome issues without vitriol, sticking up for yourself and perseverance to build a better community? Whaaaat the fuck kind of messaging is that?! Notice that just because they look different, and have specialized differently, doesnt make them less capable to save your ass and help you protect your own... We need more movies that try to build different people together, acknoledge differences but show that they dont matter or in fact help. So much of today's media and mindset is seperationist and it's dumb...
The thing that really bothered me was the Spider saving the Col. I didnt feel like they built up the character, nor the relationship enough for that save...

I propose a Starwars movie competition. Any director can throw their hat in the ring and create a Star Wars sequel, however only the best grossing movie will be considered cannon. All the other movies will be considered non-cannon fanfiction, moreover, if any movie outsells the Episode 7 it will replace it as cannon and invalidate ep. 8 and 9.

My missus was watching glass onion last night and I can safely say that even sat there on my phone, with it just on in the background it sounded shit. She also fell asleep 2/3 way through so I turned it off lol.
I found Glass Onion entertaining until the third act, it's enjoyable as a dumb parody of a classic murder mystery. I argue that it's supposed to be less intelligent than it appears to some decree, Beatles made the song Glass Onion to mock the people who tried to find deeper meaning from things that just don't have it.
The last section of the film just ruins my impression of it. First you have the triple coincidence of the diary blocking the bullet, the detective having the hot sauce and no one coming closer to check the body. Awfully convenient, but I could've stomached it. But then you have the entire section where the guy burns the handkerchief and the woman just commits arson in front of half a dozen people and somehow both gets away with it and wins the sympathy of the guests. It would've felt conclusive to just have the perpetrator get caught when the evidence was found, but I think Rian Johnson thought that you really need an explosion at the end.
43:27 this can also go too far, Game of Thrones for an example. Later seasons the writers wanted to surprise the audience so much that the writing started to take damage and the end product became mediocre.

My wife had put on the glass onion movie, I only half paid attention to like a quarter of it but what I saw seemed pretty dumb (and as soon as I saw Edward Norton, I knew he was the bad guy). A while after the movie, my wife and I were talking about mystery movies and she brought up the knives out movies (I haven't seen the first one). I said, sure they're "mystery movies" but they're not and they're just silly. She replied that they're supposed to be goofy, kinda like clue.... Now, again, I'm not a knives out expert seeing as I've only watched part of the second, but I've never thought they are comedies, which my wife apparently believes they are. I always thought they were supposed to be taken as a serious murder mystery. If they are, then they've made the story so baffling and goofy, my wife thought it was a comedy.
Isn't the ending of Knives Out too serious if it was meant to be a comedy satire. The maid got everything and said "F you all" to the victim's entire family. The revelation of her not being the murderer, but was set up to kill the old rich man's death also was framed to be a cathartic scene.
Inb4 Rian pulled The Room situation with Glass Onion and says "it was all meant to be comedy".

It brought me physical pain to hear Disparu shit all over the character of Chuck from Better call Saul. He’s one of the greatest characters of all time. He’s meant to be both hated and sympathetic and if you only watch him in season 1 no shit you don’t like him you didn’t give any time for his development. His arc was one of the best in the whole show imo.
