    This channel is one of a few that have been a breath of freshsir for the duration of The Acolyte. I enjoyed the show and appreciated watching channels thst could st least remain neutral and discuss the lore and what the show was actually doing. I must say, thsnk you for that, it's not all doom and gloom. Star Wars can't die... it's immortal!

  • @Vulcanerd
    @Vulcanerd หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    I love, love, love Ken (and Joseph and Jen at FC), but I found myself disagreeing vehemently on a point.
    Bc we tend to think of the Jedi as the good guys, we automatically assign nefarious motives to the senator who wants more oversight for the Jedi. Why? Do we know he had nefarious intentions? I would argue that we don’t know him well enough to say, one way or the other. Or are we assuming he’s acting in bad faith simply bc he’s opposing “our guys”?
    I would argue that you can’t have a genuinely free and just society without accountability and oversight. In fact, irl, we (well US in particular in this case) is having a massive issue with individuals wanting to be “above the law” and a certain body who has tremendous power and influence being accountable to no one but themselves.
    I don’t mean to get political, but these are core principles to a successful, free and just society. And that’s not just opinion. You need things to be accountable, you need things to be transparent and you need that type of oversight to a group that is answerable to the public/citizenry via elected officials. Can’t have a genuine democracy without it (channeling my inner Obi-wan).
    What’s more, doesn’t having two opposing sides which are sincerely and earnestly working for the good of the republic at large more interesting and nuanced than simply saying Senator X is a bad faith actor who is simply being unfair and mean to the Jedi? Isn’t it more interesting where you have two sides genuinely working to make the republic better, but coming at it from different angles?
    I would even extend this to Ep 2: AOTC. When Dooku captures Kenobi, I always, always, thought they missed out on a huge opportunity: what if Dooku wasn’t a Sith, but simply thought that the Separatists had a real and genuine grievance with the Republic? What if you had Kenobi and Dooku both sincerely thinking that they are on the right side of history?
    We would lose out on a fantastic villain during TCW, but other avenues would have opened up /and/ it would show how powerful and manipulative Palpatine was even more than he’s shown to be by being able to manipulate two genuinely good sides to fight each other.
    We know the Jedi are good so we have a knee jerk reaction to people who oppose them, but we just watched a whole series that show that, yes, while good, the Jedi aren’t flawless. They are good, but they aren’t perfect. And if that’s the case, they need oversight to people who are answerable to the public.
    Otherwise, you risk a massive blind spot in your system with a tremendously powerful organization answerable only to themselves. And while the story is written that “gubment oversight bad” - like in MCU’s Civil War and Stark - irl, it’s the only way to ensure a just, free society.

    • @jcsmith333
      @jcsmith333 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Absolutely! I don’t like this superficial application of US centrist managerialism in the analysis.
      I’m not deeply soaked in the lore but I think the take away was about this isn’t just about good and bad, it’s about power and control. The idea - a Lucas concept - that institutions can be flawed and should be held to account, shouldn’t be that controversial or immediately dismissed as ‘politicking’ rather than just being held to democratic account.

    I like the extended movie/mini-series as a format, but 6 or 8 episodes is too short for the stories they are trying to tell here. It was perfect for Kenobi but The Acolyte and Ahsoka needed more. If The Acolyte had been a few episodes longer or if they had been guaranteed a second season before starting then they could have fit in everything they needed better without cramming the main story points into limited runtime at the expense of other aspects. Despite that I have no complaints about the season (apart from losing Jecki and Yord) and look forward to a second season. I'd rank Ahsoka and The Acolyte above Andor.

    I really enjoyed the acolyte, but It did have a lot of writing issues. I disagree with Molly, though, because I think there were more questions than answers. Here are a lot of questions I had after the show.
    1. How were the girls created?
    2. Who is Kiamier really and is truly a sith?
    3. What is really the vengeance? Tree, planet, or the twins?
    4. How were Kiamer scars created? Was it done in a fight or done as punishment?
    4. Did Vanestra tell Yoda the truth, or did she tell him her truth
    5. Was that plagues, and does Kiamer now him, or was he just observing them from a distance?
    6. Did all the witches die, or did they just pass out? We see no skeletons when they return. It didn't burn down, so there still should be skeletons.
    8. Who was Vanestra talking to when she says tell him I know who he is?
    It doesn't seem like she would give Master Yoda that news and not in private.
    9. Why did they play Kylo Rens music on 3 different occasions & why did Leslie say there was a reason and not show it.
    10. What did Master Toben do so bad, that he would take the vow for 10 years and then take his life?
    11. If they thought May was dead, why Master Tobin act like he was expecting her?
    12. Why did Endsra say " you, what are you doing here, instead of " omg your alive, we thought you were dead"
    13. Why didn't Soul tell Osha that her mom turned her self & May into some kinda smoke monster?
    14. Why didn't Soul tell Osha that May said they were going to sacrifice them?
    15. Who trained Kiamer?
    16. Why did Kelnocca draw all the witch symbols on his wall?
    16. Did Kiamer know about the girls being created?, cause it looked surprised.
    17. Why did Yord says he gets in his mind and stays there as If he is a witch like her mom?
    18. Why didn't they just tell us the name of Kiamer's island,?

      What always made Luke interesting to me in the OT was how flawed he was, yet overcame things in the end because he always struggled towards his values, helped by his friends. He displays so much fear, anger, grief, disappoint. His desire to do the right thing while experiencing the full range of emotion is compelling. I've listened to Ken discuss each episode of the show over on force center and he DOES like the show and in no way wants to "crush" it. HE admits that he struggles with some ideas it presents and that it's more about issues he has to grapple with than what the show is trying to say.
