Last time I'll have to write these Trivia Notes: Ashley Johnson, who portrays Ellie in The Last Of Us video games portrays her mother Anna in the flashback of Ellie's birth. Also, 1 of the nurses is portrayed by Laura Bailey, who also portrayed a nurse in The Last Of Us game in The Firefly Lab Level, as well as another character in Part 2. Finally, the giraffe scene is close to the version of the scene from The Salt Lake City Level of the game, which ties back to how every Level in The Last Of Us had at least 1 giraffe referenced in it.
I'm really hoping they address this in the 3rd one. I'm a microbiologist so I know! A cerebral biopsy is a NON-LETHAL procedure! If it is done right. And all that crap about hacking Ellies head open to get the cure is BS! The doc was either incompetent or lying!
Another parallel… At the end of episode 8, Joel soothes Ellie by holding her/rocking her back and forth (almost as you would a baby) and telling her “It’s okay, baby girl. I got you.” At the start of episode 9, in a flashback, we see Anna comfort a newborn Ellie, who’s screaming, by holding her and saying “I’ve got you, it’s okay.” In Ellie’s most vulnerable moments of her life (just being born and after experiencing the trauma of nearly being SA’d/murdered), she is comforted by a parent/parental figure. Anna: “I cut it before I was bit. BEFORE.” Joel: “They’ve stopped looking for a cure.” Parents lying to protect their kids.
The ending of the season/game is so good because it’s not a black and white situation. Is Joel wrong and selfish for what he did? Yes. But can any of us blame him? No because we’d most likely do the same thing in his shoes
The fireflies are just as selfish. Since they're a terrorist revolutionary group, even if they got a cure, they wouldn't use it for the benefit of mankind. They'd use it as a tool for conquest.
The shot of Joel walking into the room and flicking Ellie’s knife open is probably my favorite moment of the whole series from Pedro, his expression is so emotionless, but you can just see the terror and focus in his eyes, it’s so sad and so scary at the same time… this was such a good show, I can’t wait for season 2 and to see more reactions!!
It's extremely unlikely that the cordyceps could travel from the bite to the baby in under a minute, we saw from the chart in episode 1 it takes it at least 5-15 minutes to get into the brain even if you're bit in the head. It's far more likely she was infected because her mom cut the cord with the same knife she just used on that zombie.

as soon as she said the doctor "thinks", I was like nope you're experimenting and they're not even sure if it would work, if they had just told her what they thought, i agree with you I think Ellie would have said yes. But they never gave her a choice
Yes because they didn't even want to think she could say "no". They wanted to do the operation at every cost, they didn't care for her, she was just a tool for them
My issues: 1) How the Fireflies went about it: They should've let Ellie decide and they should've let that decision happen in front of Joel so he'd know the truth. 2) Marlene's argument about how Ellie will die in from clickers and raiders because "the world is broken and you could've fixed it." Lady, the world has always been broken. People have always have been doing evil, the only differences now are that there's no law and order to combat this. Human nature isn't gonna change just because you find a cure for cordyceps. Also, how are you planning on distributing this cure if it even works? I didn't hear any guarantee that it would work. 3) Joel ain't in the right either with how he handled it, but I get it. If there's one thing that I am, is loyal to those I care for, even to a fault.
Totally agree about whether the Fireflies could actually do it. Yes, I get that the show doesn’t really dive deeply into the pragmatic aspects of pharmaceutical research, manufacture and distribution, but it’s highly unlikely that they had those resources. Today, it takes huge multi-billion dollar multinational pharmaceutical companies to even make a serious effort. No way the Fireflies had anything even close to those resources. The doc even asks if they have enough power when they’re in the op room. They could barely even keep the power on. But let’s even assume they could do it practically. Do we really believe they would just give it everyone just like that? The Fireflies lost the military and political fight. This was their last effort to be politically relevant. They would just have used it as a tool to leverage their power against the other factions.
the fireflies are trying too hard to be humanity's savior, in the game, it's kinda like their hail mary, they have already took too many heavy loss from Fedra after years of fighting.
@@ZizouZico i think its less that the show is showing those pragmatic aspects and more so that the fireflies truly have not thought about any of that. they only care aout making this cure, to fix things like they think it will, but it wont. and if it did, it would probably take yeaars to "fix" the world.
I agree with your points regarding Ellie's bodily autonomy and Joel not being a hero, but I disagree with your opinion that this is a broken world. I find this common with christians ( not assuming you're christian). The view that the world is a fallen, broken place, and humans are inherently corrupt and bad. This makes it necessary for a "savior" to redeem humanity, and compelles people to accept that savior. It's just a gross way to look at the world and humanity.
This is a great story. The creators themselves talk about how the theme of the story is the good and bad things love can make you do. Joel potentially doomed the human race because he loved Ellie like his own daughter. Objectively he's the villian but most people would say they would do the exact same in his shoes.
Laura Bailey, a VERY prolific actor in the world of games & animated media, played one of the nurses in the operating room in this show. She also played a nurse in the operating room in the original game (along with a survivor in the Boston QZ, and a news reporter in the prologue of the game). She also went on to play a key part in the game's sequel, The Last of Us Part II. She is VERY good friends with Troy Baker & Ashley Johnson, who play Joel & Ellie (James & Anna, respectively, in the show), and a frequent collaborator with Naughty Dog (also starred in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy)
I remember Neil Druckmann (the creator of the game) say that the first game is about love. I think both I and a lot of people interpret that as "love and what it can make you do". Joel had been very emotionally closed off for 20 years, since his daughter was killed. Ellie came into his life and he learned to love again. Then, as you said, he couldn't face losing another daughter. Love is great but it can make you do f'ed up things.
Great reaction I love this episode so much because it really show how far Joel is willing to go for her. He doesn’t care anymore about the rest of the world just about her
On one hand, the vaccine could've saved the world. On the other hand, there's no assurance it would work, they weren't honest with Joel or Ellie, and they didn't give Ellie a choice. If she, herself, said she was okay with doing it, then I 100% believe Joel would've allowed it to happen. Since they didn't give either of them a choice and decided to lie and be shady about it for some reason, Joel wasn't having it. I can't blame him.
An absolutely incredible adaptation of an amazing game. So many parts of this episode were shot-for-shot. And through all 9 episodes, the filmmakers and team proved how much love they had for the video game and its sequel. I am very much looking forward to you playing the first game!
Having just found out his daughter was about to be murdered, he was only ever going to do one thing: Attempt to rescue her. The Fireflies handled the whole situation terribly. Regarding the lie, it's worth remembering Ellie is currently in a very poor state of mind after everything that happened with David. I can understand Joel wanting to take the pressure of her shoulders and give her the best chance of making a fresh start in life. If she'd found out she was the only chance of making a cure and it had been taken away, she may well have become suicidal at that exact point in time. It's a burden Joel chooses to carry, whatever the consequences.
Great point about Ellie’s state of mind. Even if you think that a 14 year old should be asked if she’s willing to give her life to supposedly save the world (set aside for now how unlikely it is that the Fireflies had the resources to do it), the show did a great job showing us her state of mind. She was probably and understandably depressed. Even in jurisdictions around the world that allow euthanasia, it’s not allowed for people who are depressed or in a similar state of mind.
That is exactly how the first game ended, very nearly word for word. From the moment Joel steps into the elevator carrying Ellie the show matches the game, not just the dialogue, but the editing, the timing of the cuts, the music, the pacing. Why? Because as show runner Craig said "Whether or not you agree with what Joel did, the ending is correct" and "If you want to change the ending to The Last of Us, you're a fucking idiot." I jokingly wish they would have added the sound for the 'finish game trophy' (No Matter What) in the background, as seeing people finish the game and hearing that sound after the screen goes black is just a part of the experience now. I highly recommend watching the game/show side-by-side videos (IGN channel has the best ones), for all the episodes but for this one the most, as seeing Bella and Ashley's delivery of some of the lines together just emphasizes how good both were. Game creator Neil said that this is a story about love, the wonderful and terrible things people will do in the name of love. I personally love that there is such a strong emotional reaction to the ending, but not a simple one emotion feeling, a complex one that hurts to think about. Joel knew he had to lie to prevent her from going back to the hospital (both Ellies, Ashley and Bella have said Ellie would 100% choose to sacrifice herself for a chance at a cure) and Joel was not about to lose another daughter. I think he knew the damage to the relationship he would cause but desperate times... Other fun facts: -The giraffe is real and you could feed Nabo too if you visited him. When they were feeding him they were in his pen at the Calgary Zoo with blue-screen behind him. Any shots of the giraffe with more than the head and neck were CGI. -The hospital is a real one, but decommissioned. No idea how the location scout found it as it's in a city way the hell away from everything else in the province. -There are behind the episode videos on the "Max" youtube channel (~5min each) that are great. -There are companion podcasts for each episode hosted by the original voice of Joel and have the game creator and the show runner, and sometimes other guests. They are excellent and run from 30min to a little over an hour for the finale.
Awesome reaction. Amazing finale. Looking foward to your gameplay. Understanding the past of both Ellie and Joel is key to understand their decisions and ... their consequences (*eerie music plays*) .... For Ellie everyone she's been closed to died (most of 'em because of infected), so her immunity and this whole mission was her opportunity to make justice for them and for humanity. In this context maybe what she ment by "scared of ending up alone" was everyone but her getting infected. On the other side Joel lost everything not cause the infected but the people, for him humanity means nothin, on top of all Bills letter saying "Thats why people like us exist to protect the ones worth saving", the world means nothing to Joel without Ellie in it. You can say Ellie is naive cause humanity isn't that worth saving, you can say Joel is selfish for putting Ellie over the rest. Man this story is so good, sorry for the bible tlou gets me. Edit: Lets leave the decision of playing part 2 after you've finished part 1. Personally I feel that the game hits different cause it makes you "do" whaterver is happening, in the show you just watch it happen as a third party. Anyway regardless of what you choose it'll be great.
Easy call to be on Joel’s side. They don’t know for sure it will work, they didn’t ask her (or him cause she’s a child), they didn’t even let them see each other one last time if she then wanted to cause again didn’t ask, even if worked how is everyone everywhere gonna get it, and there still would be infected and bad guys everywhere to kill would take forever but yes would help get things better eventually. But basically Marlene was wrong.
It was the umbilical cord that "transferred" it to Ellie. It didn't matter how soon she came out of her mom, it mattered how quickly the mom cut the cord.
"Ellies's mom look like Ellie, they did a great job with the casting" Haha. Ellie's mom on the show is the actress that play Ellie in the game. (Ashley Johnson) James on the last ep is the actor who play Joel in the Game. (Troy Baker) And the second of Kathleen in ep 4-5 is the actor who play Tommy (Joel's brother) in the game. They all are "cameo" ^^ PS : The actress who play Marlene in the game is the actress who play Marlene in the game too! Bonus : Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker actors singing song for TLOU2 : th-cam.com/video/L6iophDSWJ4/w-d-xo.html
The ending is especially more powerful and crazy for us playing the game for the first time when it came out. Imagine going through this whole journey for hours to have the cure made. Only for Joel to murder everyone and doom the world forever. And no sequel for another 7 years 😂
joel, tommy, and ellie the actors from the game all played someone in the show. joel was james. ellie was ellie’s mom, and tommy was the soldier with the grey beard who got killed by the bloater(big boy zombie in episode i wanna say 5?)
I put off watching the finale for 2 weeks because I didn't want it to be over. Silly me. I can just watch it again. All of it. And then watch other people watch it. For months. I've seen a lot of great TV in my life. Never been this obsessed. Need an intervention.
She doesn't know he's lying, but she's CHOOSING to believe the only person she trusts. She's heartbroken that everything she's been through was for nothing. Her life means nothing now.
Idk what's worse... Knowing someone that you love is lying to you, or only being able to assume that someone you love is lying to you, but because you can't prove it you're forced to act like you believe them.
But… you also have to consider that they are also dealing with 20 year old post-apocalyptic medical equipment and one SMALL sample. How can they synthesize the sample enough - assuming that they were even able to make it work - to be able to give it to the world? Also, that would give the Fireflies all of the power. They could wield it as they would.. and the majority of them were seen as “terrorists” as it was. And they didn’t give Ellie the choice. She wasn’t able to give consent to a surgery that would kill her… even if you believe that it is what she would have wanted…. She STILL should have been told… and given ALL of the information… before making the choice. The fact that they were just willing to kill her without even offering her that… whether they knew it would work or not… says a heckuvalot about the moral compass of the Fireflies. You have to look at it from all sides.
I think firefly was totally in the wrong. Sure they had good intentions (allegedly) but the road to hell is paved with those. In reality Joel was being thrown out to the wolves without his weapons, likely to his death, without even getting to say goodbye to someone he loved. If they’d have just given him a chance to say goodbye and let Ellie talk him into letting her go I’d see thing going completely differently. You also have to remember that Joel has experience with firefly’s fucking him over, and they’re terrorists, Along with giving him his stuff back. Also the show conveniently leaves out the fact that **video game Easter egg spoiler** Joel isn’t actually lying in the end. He DOES actually find proof that they’ve failed with other subjects to make a cure. *video game Easter egg spoiler** Yes he’s twisting the truth and yes she’s somewhat of a unique case but not an out right lie, the firefly’s were the ones lying about the sure fire chance to develop a cure when they’d already failed like 11 times. They are the victims of circumstances they created themselves by being assholes.
Awesome ending that makes you think. In Joel's mind, the people in the world are the fascists in Fedra, Violent murdering people who overran QZs, groups of raiders, cannibals, and his brother and Ellie. To him what's really worth saving? It's just like Bill's letter to him that said "I used to hate the world and was happy when everyone died but there was one person worth saving... and that's what I did.... that's why you and I here....we have a job to do and god help anyone that stands in our way" Joel is living out that letter. I think Joel's thoughts are "If she dies and saves the world... are any of those garbage people worth saving vs the one person I finally care about since 2003?"
Since you finished The Last Of Us, I think you should definitely watch & react to The Sopranos, Succession, Mr. Robot, Peaky Blinders, Band Of Brothers, Chernobyl, HBO’s Rome, and The Godfather Trilogy at some point, I’m also glad you’re still continuing this journey of Better Call Saul, and we also can’t wait until Season 2 and Season 5 (final season) of Stranger Things
I'm firmly in the camp that both Joel and the Fireflies suck. We been 20 years without a real shot at a cure, we can't wait a couple hours to give Ellie the option of informed consent and a chance for her and Joel to say goodbye? I get their desperation to find that cure, but that's messed up. And for Joel... I think anyone who knows Ellie could agree that she would choose to go thru with the surgery for the chance to cure the world, but we'll never know bc Joel also didn't give her the chance to choose any more than the fireflies did. And again, I get he simply could not lose another daughter. Everyone made choices that I understand, but they were all bad choices and they should all feel bad about them haha
Had to rewatch this man cause this reaction is really amazing, seriously love that opening with ELLIE playing Ellie’s mom that’s just perfect, we Stan Ashley Johnson.
It is important to understand that Joel did what he did for one reason: He didn't want Ellie to die. He didn't do what he did cuz he had an issue with what the Fireflies were doing or their scientific methodology or their philosophical goals. He literally says, "find someone else". He's basically saying, "you can kill someone else or smoeone else's kid... but not MY kid." I ultimately land on Joel's side in all this. I can understand why he did everything that he did (the killing and the lying). But I also recognize it for the morally dubious (at best) and morally fucked up (at worst) decision that it is. Still, I wholly get it. When I played the game, I killed every Firefly without qualm because that's what Joel would do, and I didn't want Ellie to die either. I did leave the nurses alive as they weren't threats (and aren't required to be killed). Joel's lie, imo, is the worse part. Still, I get it. I will say, tho... There is definitely some hypocrisy in the fans. Some folks will be complete Joel apologists and absolutely demonize the Fireflies. They will begin listing every bad or questionable thing they've done to justify why they are bad or whatever. They will say how very wrong what they're doing is. I am not saying that what they did (in the many fights they've been involved in) and were about to do (murder a kid without telling or asking her) is wholly correct or good. All I am saying is... Some people give Joel a LOT of affordance to make fucked up decisions, but give NONE to the Fireflies. So, it is okay if Joel makes some morally quesitonable choices to save Ellie. But if Marlene and the Fireflies make some morally questionable decisions in order to try and solve this Cordyceps they are completely bad or their intentions are incomprehensible? I fully understand someone not wanting their (surrogate) child to be murdered for some cure. I also fully understand wanting to do this surgery (even if it means the death of this child) in order to help humanity. I fully get both sides here: Joel & Marlene + Fireflies. I don't know what I'd do in that situation if I was there. I find these exercises to be a stupid one. All of us can sit here and state "oh I'd do xyz". But we cannot know. So I never say, "I would do xyz". I truly don't know what I'd do. But I FULLY UNDERSTAND both sides and the morally grey, fucked up, questionable decisions that they make. All I will say is that I am glad that Ellie is alive, but I am heartbroken for her, too.
Love right at the start "Ellie's.... Mom?" When it is in fact, Ellie. AND Ellie's mom! Ashley Johnson was the actress for Ellie in both games. Its fantastic that they chose her for this series to be her mom! I kinda wanna say "spoilers for the game" but since the show pretty much hit up every story beat from the games, when you go and play you wont be surprised by them, but man did they do a fantastic job in the show of capturing those key moments. Of course there are certain choices that you can make in the game, like you dont HAVE to kill the doctor. But yep, the show has the exact same dialogue as the game in those last lines, and thats where the credits roll in the game. I really hope that you do upload your playthrough of the game on youtube man. I really would love to watch you play through it!
Yes, a tragic ending, the lying undermines their relation. A great first season; I'll be there for season 2! See you then. By the way: not to split hairs, but, not a virus, a fungus.
I’m with Joel. When Marlene said the doctor “thinks” he can reproduce the chemical messengers, I’m like...nope. No guarantee and Ellie could end up dead for nothing...no...just no. Humanity, especially at the point it’s at in this series, can figure something else out.
Excellent writing. Marlene fells like she couldnt have taken the chance by giving the choice on a maybe. Joel knows damn well what Ellie wouldve chosen regardless, which is Why he does what he does and then lies about it. He couldnt lose another.
17:08 always makes me laugh like bro wasn't even looking at him and just ended his shit lmfao. Your playthrough of the 1st game will be interesting, I haven't watched anyone who watched the show first before playing the game also 24:20 it was because her mom was bit while the umbilical cord was still connected. That's why the first thing she does after realizing she's been bit is cut the umbilical cord. At least that's how I interpreted it, idk if that's what actually happened
The only reason the series is so good is that because they had the freedom of the video game writing. "Hollywood" wouldn't have tolerated a script like that 10 years ago - even now. Never played the game myself but in that first episode you could tell - yep - this is video game writing, they don't hold back.
You should probably just play the 2nd game since they’ve confirmed it will take multiple seasons to adapt it, so it’ll be a while to get that whole story in show format.
I would recommend playing the second game before the second season comes out. Itll prepare you. Alot of people that havent played the game are gonna be pissed about pretty much everything that's coming.
He had no choice but to lie to her, she'd likely try to go back and sacrifice herself, and he KNOWS he cannot survive that. I'm with Joel 100%. I wouldn't sacrifice my child for the off chance the theory would work.
I would recommend playing The Last Of Us PS5 version. PC port is known for its poor optimisation, you might need a very powerful rig to play it. Just to avoid any unnecessary issues and to have the most pleasant experience, PS5 version would be the best. I'm planning on purchasing it myself closer to Christmas Eve😏
TW: SUICIDE I think Joel lies to her for 2 reasons: 1.) He knows deep down that Marlene is right: had Ellie been given the choice and been told the ramifications of the surgery (she’ll die), she would have still gone through with it. And he can’t bear to lose again-so he lies to her. 2.) He can clearly tell that Ellie is emotionally not okay after the events of episode 8 (most likely traumatized and depressed). So to comfort her, he shares with her about the time he was depressed and attempted to take his life but failed and how happy he is he failed (in a way, saying “I’ve been there too and you’ll be okay). I think he lies to protect her from herself-he’s probably afraid that if he did tell her the truth, given her headspace right now, she would go off and try to hurt/harm herself in some way. So it’s both out of a protection/parental nature and selfishness.
It is recorded separately but after it’s uploaded the way copyright works on TH-cam you can either take it down re edit and reupload or mute all audio during the time and not have to reupload which is almost always the better option if it’s already up
People lean into the argument that the doctor didn't know for certain he could reproduce the immunity or the the Fireflies couldn't be trusted with a cure in the first place but those are excuses. They want to justify Joel's choice and Ellie's life being saved. My take is that this cheapens the stakes here at the end. It's more interesting to finally see the Joel we've been hearing about since the first episode of the show, when black market dealers are afraid of him, when a FEDRA guard says that he would know if drugs help you sleep after shooting lots of people. Joel told us himself that the world ended long ago and now all you can do it protect the things you care about. It's gut-wrenching when we see him live those words when the stakes are potentially reversing a situation that is slowly chipping away at civilization and humanity one bite at a time. It's a great ending, all the more because a man chooses one girl over the world.
You’re absolutely right. It really annoys me when people try and act like Joel definitely did the right thing. It’s better because it’s morally grey, and mostly that Joel did the wrong thing. The point of the game is showing why
imagine in 2013 finishing the game (same ending)... and have to wait 7 years to play the second episode :P. Ellie is immune but nothing is sure about a potential cure. they are risking Ellie's life maybe for nothing. And even if the surgery was successfull, the world is already dead, back to babaric time... also in the game it's mentionned 60% of the world population are dead ( or infected) from the virus at first. and, they are now 20 years after, im pretty sure half of the 40% died from starvation/virus/murder. Joel's choice was the best choice, family come first...
HELL NO. I'm with Joel 100%. She's his child, he's her father now, we don't allow traumatized children to make these decisions. It's HIS decision to make, and they didn't give her or Joel an option. AND who the hell knows if it'll even work?! NOPE. I'm with Joel. We'll do anything of our kids.

We're all the hero of our own story, but we either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.
The woman who played Ellie's mother in the show is the woman who voiced the character of Ellie in the games. Beautiful symmetry.
Not just voiced her. She did the performance capture.
oh wow that's sick
Not just voice, full mo-cap full acting performance as well.
Capture compared with actual game scene (changed in series, as they meet Bill)

Ashley Johnson, it’s been a long time
Primate bruh, you killed me w/ that cut to violent giraffes 🤣💀
😂
Giraffes bopping and weaving😭😭😭😭
Nah literally I lost it 🤣
Giraffes from The Owl House are scary
Another parallel…
At the end of episode 8, Joel soothes Ellie by holding her/rocking her back and forth (almost as you would a baby) and telling her “It’s okay, baby girl. I got you.” At the start of episode 9, in a flashback, we see Anna comfort a newborn Ellie, who’s screaming, by holding her and saying “I’ve got you, it’s okay.”
In Ellie’s most vulnerable moments of her life (just being born and after experiencing the trauma of nearly being SA’d/murdered), she is comforted by a parent/parental figure.
Anna: “I cut it before I was bit. BEFORE.”
Joel: “They’ve stopped looking for a cure.”
Parents lying to protect their kids.
"It wasn't time that did it."
Probably my favorite non-game line. The way Pedro delivered that was perfect
I love how it mirrors the line in the game too man so good
The ending of the season/game is so good because it’s not a black and white situation.
Imo not just one of the best video game ending’s but ending’s in general media, so powerful.
The shot of Joel walking into the room and flicking Ellie’s knife open is probably my favorite moment of the whole series from Pedro, his expression is so emotionless, but you can just see the terror and focus in his eyes, it’s so sad and so scary at the same time…
this was such a good show, I can’t wait for season 2 and to see more reactions!!
I totally agree he completely dissociated at the hospital and it was so scary to watch. Pedro’s acting is literally the best acting I’ve seen ever!
That IS why she's immune. Her mom didn't cut the umbilical cord until a minute later.
Last time I'll have to write 1 of these Trivia Notes: Ashley Johnson, who portrays Ellie in The Last Of Us video games portrays her mother Anna in the flashback of Ellie's birth. Also, 1 of the nurses is portrayed by Laura Bailey, who also portrayed a nurse in The Last Of Us game in The Firefly Lab Level, as well as another character in Part 2. Finally, the giraffe scene is close to the version of the scene from The Salt Lake City Level of the game, which ties back to how every Level in The Last Of Us had at least 1 giraffe referenced in it.
as soon as she said the doctor "thinks", I was like nope you're experimenting and they're not even sure if it would work, if they had just told her what they thought, i agree with you I think Ellie would have said yes. But they never gave her a choice
Yes because they didn't even want to think she could say "no". They wanted to do the operation at every cost, they didn't care for her, she was just a tool for them
It was so freakin cool to see Ashley Johnson appear as Ellie's mom in this episode!!!!
My issues:
1) How the Fireflies went about it: They should've let Ellie decide and they should've let that decision happen in front of Joel so he'd know the truth.
Like Maria said in episode 6, "The only people who can betray us are the ones we trust."
Not only the strike before season 2, but Pedro also has Mando to film
17:23 oh....how right you are unfortunately. That life that Joel took set him and Ellie on the path for TLOU 2
I think Ellie is most likely immune because her mom cut the umbilical cord with the knife covered in cordyceps. So Ellie got a tiny dose at birth.
Great reaction I love this episode so much because it really show how far Joel is willing to go for her. He doesn’t care anymore about the rest of the world just about her
Ellie giving birth to Ellie, nice little Easter egg
I would have done exactly what Joel did and wouldn't have thought twice about it. If humanity doesn't survive oh well, a reset has been long overdue
You know it’s a good day when Itsaprimate uploads
✊
On one hand, the vaccine could've saved the world. On the other hand, there's no assurance it would work, they weren't honest with Joel or Ellie, and they didn't give Ellie a choice. If she, herself, said she was okay with doing it, then I 100% believe Joel would've allowed it to happen. Since they didn't give either of them a choice and decided to lie and be shady about it for some reason, Joel wasn't having it. I can't blame him.
not ashamed to admit I would have done exactly what joel did, even with the fate of humanity’s survival at stake
It’s an impossible decision
Mofos should have stayed home if they didn't want to die. Once they decided to take his baby girl from him, their fate was sealed.
An absolutely incredible adaptation of an amazing game. So many parts of this episode were shot-for-shot. And through all 9 episodes, the filmmakers and team proved how much love they had for the video game and its sequel. I am very much looking forward to you playing the first game!
The actress that plays Ellie's mom (Ashley Johnson) voices her in the game.
Not just voice, full mo-cap full acting performance as well.
Fun fact those giraffes are real not CGI
Other fun facts:
-The giraffe is real and you could feed Nabo too if you visited him.
"Ellies's mom look like Ellie, they did a great job with the casting"
Haha.
Ellie's mom on the show is the actress that play Ellie in the game. (Ashley Johnson)
James on the last ep is the actor who play Joel in the Game. (Troy Baker)
And the second of Kathleen in ep 4-5 is the actor who play Tommy (Joel's brother) in the game.
They all are "cameo" ^^
PS : The actress who play Marlene in the game is the actress who play Marlene in the game too!
Imagine how we felt after playing the game and it ends like that bruh 😭😭😭😭insane ending man I’ll never get over it.
I put off watching the finale for 2 weeks because I didn't want it to be over. Silly me. I can just watch it again. All of it. And then watch other people watch it. For months. I've seen a lot of great TV in my life. Never been this obsessed. Need an intervention.
16:47 Joel was on speed run + new game+ lol
She doesn't know he's lying, but she's CHOOSING to believe the only person she trusts. She's heartbroken that everything she's been through was for nothing. Her life means nothing now.
Idk what's worse... Knowing someone that you love is lying to you, or only being able to assume that someone you love is lying to you, but because you can't prove it you're forced to act like you believe them.
@@MFBloosh well it was neither so...
When Joel said that they were attacked by Raiders, he's actually telling the truth 😂 He, a raider, one man army that wrecked everyone in that building
Bro that fool went straight up terminator model 101 on their ass.
We're all the hero of our own story, but we either die a hero or live long enough to become a villain.
Also the show conveniently leaves out the fact that
**video game Easter egg spoiler** Joel isn’t actually lying in the end. He DOES actually find proof that they’ve failed with other subjects to make a cure. *video game Easter egg spoiler**
Yes he’s twisting the truth and yes she’s somewhat of a unique case but not an out right lie, the firefly’s were the ones lying about the sure fire chance to develop a cure when they’d already failed like 11 times.
This was the happy season!
🎉 Ayyyy congrats on the 100k deserved my man 🎉
Since you finished The Last Of Us, I think you should definitely watch & react to The Sopranos, Succession, Mr.
Loved the whole seasons reactions! Roll on season 2
The woman who plays Marlene also plays Marlene in the game.
We have to see a playthrough of the game from you now that would be dope
Dude had one job.. cover the baby's ears...
It is important to understand that Joel did what he did for one reason: He didn't want Ellie to die. He didn't do what he did cuz he had an issue with what the Fireflies were doing or their scientific methodology or their philosophical goals. He literally says, "find someone else". He's basically saying, "you can kill someone else or smoeone else's kid... but not MY kid."
I ultimately land on Joel's side in all this.
This show is so good I can't wait till season 2
Ellie's mom IS Ellie (in the game)! Ashley Johnson.
I think so many would reject a cure at this point. Raiders and people thriving now.
Cant wait for your playthrough of the game
Voice actress of Ellie in the game gave birth to Ellie
in this episode. Brilliant...
that giraffe cut LOL💀
20:01 Wait till you see the second part of the game. It is way more devastating than the first one..
Let’s hope season two will give us some closure, especially from the second game
You mean the masterpiece that's somehow better than the first? I hope it's a direct adaptation, one of my favorite stories ever.
@@joshuabarnett88isn't season 2 & 3 are both going to be part 2 adaptation right ?
Yes, a tragic ending, the lying undermines their relation.
A great first season; I'll be there for season 2! See you then.
By the way: not to split hairs, but, not a virus, a fungus.
Show was amazing, seeing the original Joel and Ellie was chefs kiss.
The cast Ellie based on this actress who gave the voice and motion for the original character.
17:08 always makes me laugh like bro wasn't even looking at him and just ended his shit lmfao. Your playthrough of the 1st game will be interesting, I haven't watched anyone who watched the show first before playing the game
also 24:20 it was because her mom was bit while the umbilical cord was still connected. That's why the first thing she does after realizing she's been bit is cut the umbilical cord. At least that's how I interpreted it, idk if that's what actually happened
I guess Marlene just let him leave! 😬
The only reason the series is so good is that because they had the freedom of the video game writing. "Hollywood" wouldn't have tolerated a script like that 10 years ago - even now. Never played the game myself but in that first episode you could tell - yep - this is video game writing, they don't hold back.
Do you still plan on playing the game? It would be really interesting seeing the perspective of someone who saw the show first.
Yes!
He had to lie. She couldn't handle the truth. Telling he what really happened wouldn't have solved anything.
Do you plan on posting your tlou gameplay on youtube or will this just be on twitch ?
Not sure yet
its because if her umbilical cord wasnt cut until after the bite
I mean it is questionable science to kill your only test subject without trying other methods first
You should probably just play the 2nd game since they’ve confirmed it will take multiple seasons to adapt it, so it’ll be a while to get that whole story in show format.
At the end of the day Ellie should have been given the choice.
Question: Why 9/10? What didn't you like? You said you "absolutely loved it", why not 10/10? It's my favorite show since Breaking Bad.
🎉
You’ll definitely enjoy the game. It’s much much better than the show, in every way.
LETS SEE THEM LETS PLAY MY MAAAAAN
I would recommend playing The Last Of Us PS5 version. PC port is known for its poor optimisation, you might need a very powerful rig to play it. Just to avoid any unnecessary issues and to have the most pleasant experience, PS5 version would be the best. I'm planning on purchasing it myself closer to Christmas Eve😏
pls upload the gameplay on yt!! would be so fun to watch
7:14 Bro, you did not cover her ears!
TW: SUICIDE
I think Joel lies to her for 2 reasons:
1.) He knows deep down that Marlene is right: had Ellie been given the choice and been told the ramifications of the surgery (she’ll die), she would have still gone through with it.
Are you fonna stream the game when you play it or you could do like a playthrough. Would be pretty cool
Stream on twitch
21:01 @itsAPrimate....same, we all feel the same.
Love the reactions my guy!
I just wanted to suggest one thing on your mic. Have you thought to record your mic separately from the show audio? That way your voice is not muted when you have to mute the audio for copyright ©️ circumstances. We're probably missing on some funny commentary!
Other than that, I can't wait till you play the game(s) and see what comes next in the next story 😬
It is recorded separately but after it’s uploaded the way copyright works on TH-cam you can either take it down re edit and reupload or mute all audio during the time and not have to reupload which is almost always the better option if it’s already up
@@ItsAPrimatee understood! 👍
"They did a good job in casting" Bro that's literally Ellie 😅
I can’t wait for you to play the game
Will you play the game on the channel?
On twitch
imagine in 2013 finishing the game (same ending)... and have to wait 7 years to play the second episode :P.
Joel is my hero…
