This is a nice starter Selesnya +1/+1 Counters. There are so many ways to update this to be very scary very quickly.
I run Sovereign Okinec as my commander, with a Khalonian Hydra as my other combat counter doubler.

One of the cards that I am surprised you didn't consider was Deepwood Denizen. With how many +1/+1 Counters going around, he quickly becomes a {G}{T} to draw a card.

re: getting annoyed with saying "+1/+1 counter" repeatedly: I've taken to pulling some shorthand from Scryfall syntax, and often refer to them as PP counters. Not only funny, but also an effective abbreviation :D
