Nice cuda! Glad it recovered. The issue you are having is actually a feature of the Honda engine. The Rev Limiter is kicking in. It is there to limit damage from excessive engine speed when the prop loses “grip”. When the prop ventilates which can be caused by excessive engine tilt, sharp turns at speed, going over rough chop which briefly raises the prop close to the surface, grass kicking the motor up just enough to cavitate and so on it will cut power way back until it’s safe again. It seems to be the nature of these short shaft engines since they ride close to the surface. When it happens because you’re low on fuel it’s just getting starved. Time for a 3gal direct connect tank, oops, my bad, I see you did get the tank. I have been researching it as I get my FastCat and Honda 20 rigged. Some people that run offshore or in chop often with Fully inflatable Catamarans install a foil like the Permatrim Performance Foil or something similar. It helps with ventilation and is supposed to get you on plane quicker. I have used hydrofoils on my 85hp and 200’s to get on plane quicker and they work well for that but this is the first short shaft I’ve had😂Ha I said short shaft, so I don’t know if it will stop the ventilation completely in every case. Hope this helps.
It's all of the above! Check out the 5HP sea trial video I posted today. The rev limiter is there to protect the motor. Believe it or not, seaweed can get inside and clog them up - ask me how I know! 😉 I was also going fast with heavy waves on my Tuffy with the 15HP, and it would rev when the boat was basically airborne, so that happens too. Once, with the gas tank half full, it shut off on me, heavy seas. I had to prop the tank up, and boom, it kept working like nothing happened. Hope you love your Fastcat14 with the 20HP! That thing will be awesome!
What size D-rings did you get for your trolling motor mount. I got my Starboard in today so I can start making mounts for the steering and Throttle controls but I want to get the same size D-rings that hold the FastCat 12 benches down. I want to do a bolt mount with starboard up front.
@@FreedomYak not on this motor but the jet angler once, my buddy has issues with his 20 and skiff and seaweed all the time, the jet angler almost got toasted once lol
I think the problem is caused by cabitation and it usually happens with inflatable boats , your boat has no keel ! Aliex , sería buenísimo si pudieras hacer algún review a Saturn Kaboats .
Working on the Saturns, soon, it is a small boat/Small outboard problem, it is caused by seaweed, heavy chop, or not enough gas, I encounted the problem in all those situations, with this boat and others liwk the tuffy, also have a friend with a skiff, has the same issues.
@@jasonsanders211 only rated for 6hp, 65# weight limit, but can a 9.9 HP work? Probably, if you put a cooler on the bow? I'm concerned about the transom mount maybe it is not designed for the 9.9, 20 Mph torquiness lol 😂
The motor is “ventilating”, you’re not having a problem with fuel. The prop is getting closer to the surface when the boat bounces and it pulls in air causing the motor to lose its “bite” and causes the revs to shoot up. Hydrofoil fin on the motor will improve that
@@mikemart3443 it is fuel too, I tested all this stuff several times, different boats, if there is little fuel in the gas tank and the boat jumps, it does the rev thing, I saw it happened with my 15hp and this. Also seaweed gets in there, it is all of the above
@@AliexFolgueira I never really use the built in tank because it’s a pain to get it started after any extended storage time. The external tank is first pull every time because the pressure forces the fuel in the carbs. Plus I don’t deal with too many weeds in coastal NJ. I put a hydrofoil on my Mercury 6HP and it made such a difference going through the chop.
Sweet set up, love the fishing in the rain
Was epic, the thunder though, was pretty close ha ha
I like the Fastcat....TY
it is extremely NICE! my only complain is, I wish it was rated for a 9.9 HP, but you don't wanna deal with the 110# outboards haha lol
When a fish does that slap the water near it and it will snap them back they get winded and pass out I find it works every time
Probably passed out yup
You gotta move your fish back and forth to get that oxygen flowing 👍👍 it helps them wake up faster 👍👍

Oh no. Seaweed got inside the drive!? That would suck. I guess as long as it’s still sticking out you won’t have to take apart the foot to clear it.

You have to pay attention to how much weight is flopping around on the transom, 9.9 may be pushing it
