ohhh my god, the jjt death egg motif does so much for this on its own, but the way you brought in the atmosphere of the original lbz, and the bass motif and drum line, along with emphasizing the higher synth line, while still preserving that more complex composition of the alt to make it not feel as “empty” as the original without ruining the vibe, makes this very very close to my ideal version of lbz in a way i didn’t think i’d ever see from anyone else. absolutely awesome job, just about the only thing i would change is the instrumentation to make it even closer to the original lbz, and i WISH this was in the s3air alt soundtrack mod
launch base is my favorite song from sonic 3 alternate's ost, so ive been waiting for something like this for a long time now. sounds sick. you definitely succeeded here.
Like, OG Alt Launch Base was a "aggressive" type of intimidating, but this one has more subtle vibes. It’s as if the music was screaming "this is too peaceful to be true, something catastrophic is definetly going to happen" To me it fits more S3K’s Launch Base than S3 alone’s considering it’s a mid-game stage
Similarities to the original LBZ aside, this is a pretty banger track. I absolutely love the Alternative Death Egg leitmotif inclusion to really hammer the continuity that this iteration is based on. I absolutely love this "quiet before the storm" take, too. Hope to hear Act 2 soon C:
Funny coincidence here, I started a playthrough of Sonic 3 and Knuckles on an emulator after not playing it in NINE YEARS. I stopped at Launch Base, and man, does this hit some nostalgia :D
I like how you did this to be faithful to the comment Woofle made about not originally doing S&K alternate because she added the OG Death Egg motif to Launch Base. Now the cycle is complete, excellent work.
Wait Woofle made a comment? I was only paying attention to her composition, just replacing the OG Death Egg motif with John Tay's motif instead. Thanks, anyway. And the cycle's not complete I need to do Act 2 one of these days
@@sakey2235 I had a feeling you'd say that lmfao But yeah, on another video, I believe it was on a upload of her music for the Alt. OST, she said that.
Considering the fact that Launch Base is pretty much what the Outdoor region of Genocide City was meant to be in MD '92 (in this case, Act II and III; most of Act 0I's elements would go over to Act 0I of Death Egg '94, if we're looking at Tom Payne's documentation correctly), I feel that this handling of Act 0I's music works substantially better as a means to inform the viewer on the severity of the situation while still retaining the atmosphere that was delivered by Michael Jackson's Sound Team, albeit at the cost of not having the Run DMC "Go!" sample from "Peter Piper"; one thing that needs to be noted here too is that if you are at all familiar with the YM2203, this Rescore would be a perfect fit in many a PC~9800 title due to how how well the FM and PSG presets are used, the I970s/I980s Primetime Sitcom and Crime Drama atmosphere to its instrumentation during the Chorus reminds me of select elements from plentiful notables from the era (Cannon, The Bob Newhart Show (I972), Taxi, Benson, Hunter, Everybody's Favourite Bagman (Law & Order Pilot, I988) and more; heck, even elements of Outrun (Arcade)'s music and Community's Law & Order Parody Opening Cinematic can be heard here) and in many ways it helps set the stage for what is the most important part of the Midpoint/Penultimate arc in the Death Egg Saga (and the end of the Future Saga in MD '92's original Time Travel plot), Genocide City would've definitely felt different if this were the track that was used instead of Retail Death Egg '92 (Track 0A (Retail)/Prototype 8A (Beta 04)) and that Chasing the Enemy~style feel that would typically be felt in the Act III or IV of a Crime Drama from the era truly brings it home with a track of this caliber playing all throughout. (:
I think it might make sense in some way. Considering that Knuckes' story happens after Sonic's story, seeing some kind of abandoned Launch Base zone would be fitting
Okay, so, because JohnTay’s Alternate Death Egg is a Remix of another song of theirs, this is technically an alternate version of an alternate that is an alternate of an original song

if Sonic 3 had level hubs like Sonic Advance 3 had, this would make for an excellent hub level motif for Launch Base.
a remix of my favorite theme from sonic 3 alternate??? fuck yeah
Launch Base alt is better because it actually sounds like a proper final level.
Imagine this version plays when going through Launch Base as Knuckles
Hmm... I was thinking of making an act 2 Knuckles exclusive song that sounds similar to this one
