Mushrooms need minimal, if any, light. They are not plants and don't technically use it. They know which way up is. IF you want, a LED rope light from the dollar store would be sufficient. My wife got me a seed starting light a few years ago that has white, red and blue LEDs. My first whack at growing and the intensity of the light prevented growth. Main things to focus on when fruiting is fresh air exchange (FAE), temperature...low 70s and relative humidity...90-100% And yes, you can absolutely put two fully colonized bags side by side in a monotub. Now, if you have a specie that prefers more FAE then you'll run into issues with one of them, so make sure if you have two blocks they will both perform relatively the same in your tub. Otherwise a separate tub for one that needs more or less than the other. Does this make sense? 🤔 Not all mushrooms are created equal so you may have to do a little homework and design modifications as you go. Mush love friend 💙🍄

If you want to take advantage of the phototropic effect and get them to grow in a certain direction, I'd recommend pointing a light directly above. I wouldn’t recommend that. You don’t want any grain that’s not yet colonized to be exposed to outside environmental conditions. Contamination would be likely.

I have heard that it will not increase your yield unless when you do break the all in one grow bag up that you combine it with a veryyyyyy clean bulk substrate. only will increasae yield by adding surface areas meaning more substrate and you will have to wait to have your bag broken up stuff colonize the bulk substrate which can be a window of contams. Hello First timer here . Took forever to see mycelium! my first bags that I bought did nothing I mean nothing.. wasn't the bags I'm pretty positive about was the culture they did replace and I now have a mycelium bag / cake . put in a tub but I'm wondering what the shiney. stuff is I have no one I can show it to! is it vermiculite ?? can I send a pic in some place ?? 0r just on here... sigh
Yes, once I've got the holes covered and the lid latched on with the cake inside, I typically don't touch it until it fruits. Well, aside from the occasional check around nce a week to make sure its hydrated and healthy.
I like to keep them taped until harvest. I’m using micropore tape here. I haven’t needed to fan at all up to this point. If I see too much fuzziness, I’ll start to fan later on.
If your FAE is good you don't need to fan. Before Yoshi Amano's channel got taken down he had just got some tubs from Microppose. Think he was showcasing the medium size 🤔 Anyway, I asked a similar question and he'd replied that keeping the holes covered (which allows for the build-up of CO2) until fruiting was antiquated and that he had not seen any difference between that and leaving the filter patches (or micropore tape) on through the entire process. Hope this helps 🤷
That is very normal but not in a good way. It means that your bags have been contaminated and another fungus is growing on the grain. Green is a classic sign of trichoderma. Sorry :(
@@HappyMayCope this is quickly becoming a classic question in mycology. Its hard to say. Usually trich only takes 4-7 days before it shows up and turns green though. So if your bags were fine for a long time before you inoculated, it was probably an error in sterile procedure.
The material inside the pads are plastic, a sort of plastic that can resorb water and hold it for a long time. The diaper industry are a real environment struggle no one talk about. But also the vermiculite are hazardous to inhale and the industry are not that environmental friendly so I would say that diapers are better to use.
Great video. Just some constructive criticism. Did you really have to show how you covered EACH HOLE with tape? One or two would have been sufficient and it would probably cut a few minutes off of your post.
Puppy pads are also more plastic and trash, unfortunately. 😢🤷♀️ I know compromise needs to happen. Please don't jump down my throat (commenters). 🥺🥺🥺 We also can't get better in any area if we conveniently "forget" that "better" is a goal. That's all. Also, he mentioned in the video that he IS concerned with environmental impact (not those words, but that message). So I'm NOT trying to "preach", ok?🤞 Edit: I didn't post this originally because I honestly do not have much experience. Question for those who do, though - what about a small, non-linty cloth like a cloth diaper pad that's been soaked in hydrogen peroxide or something similar? Wash and sanitize between uses? I've actually thought of trying this myself and might, with a bit more experience. For now, I've just been sticking with a humid environment and/or perlite, though. Maybe? What do you all with experience think? Thanks!
I've been growing for 20 years and I'm dumbfounded now I can't grow anything in this house I get trachoderma in everything I do I mean I can get green spawn all the way to beautiful fully colonized Grange fun without trichoderma minute I put it in a mono tub even with a simple substrate like coconut fiber and a little bit of vermiculite and even if I fully sterilize it rather than just pasteurize it I get trichoderma every time I have not been able to grow anything successful for 6 months I don't know what the hell I scrub every inch of the room down with bleach I run a big industrial ozone machine all the time I mean at all the time but every chance I get I don't know what to do at this point it's fucking ridiculous. I mean it's funny in my last house I never got trickaderma The occasional Jeremy if I was using jars I'd get a little trich has anybody ever used chlorine dioxide treatment for a room? I'm going to try that next I'm running out of ideas. I even sterilized a giant rubber maid tub and tried growing inside that filling my bins inside a really high-tech ozone and alcohol clean still air box I mean I could not have been any more sterile with this procedure and I still get trick inside a tub that's inside a tub never touched when I open it up it's gone. I've even tried to hold back a couple of cups of grain inside the original bag to see if it goes and it always stays fine so it's the air it's everything I don't know I'm at a lost at this point it's the most depressing thing I cannot grow anything
I feel your pain!! As a beginner, I had the best luck and never had issues for about a year. I kept things clean, but I could've been more sterile about it. Then for 9 months I had a horrible issue with the C word. I would do 10-20 projects hoping one would work, but ended up tossing them out. It was very frustrating. The only difference was I was being extra clean. I'm sure that wasn't the issue, but that's the only thing I switched up on. I had to take a 3 month break and now things are doing great. I did extra just in case they went bad,now I have more tubs than I do room.

@@saeawn that what caused me so many issues, just way too many variables i would rather skip for my personal medicine growth.
0r just on here... sigh
Just subscribed. Thank you
Awesome, thank you!
Could the shinyness be coming from the cake being pressed against the bag?
That's quite likely. Now that it's been in it's new home for a few days, it looks exactly how you'd want it to :)
The water lock material should be sodium polyacrylate and cellulose
Can I do this with a growkit?
Hand model over here
Do you just leave the lid on and let it fruit that way? Just about to do the same. Hoping the holes will be enough for fae
Yes, once I've got the holes covered and the lid latched on with the cake inside, I typically don't touch it until it fruits. Well, aside from the occasional check around nce a week to make sure its hydrated and healthy.
Drill in reverse. You wont crack the plastic and it will melt right through
Good tip!
Step drill bit, the bit you cut your holes with that's what it's called
Thank you!
Why fruit from 1 surface when you can fruit from 5 surfaces? Surface area is king.
Do all holes stay taped till harvest? And are u fanning daily or at all¿
I like to keep them taped until harvest. I’m using micropore tape here. I haven’t needed to fan at all up to this point. If I see too much fuzziness, I’ll start to fan later on.
If your FAE is good you don't need to fan.
Before Yoshi Amano's channel got taken down he had just got some tubs from Microppose. Think he was showcasing the medium size 🤔
Anyway, I asked a similar question and he'd replied that keeping the holes covered (which allows for the build-up of CO2) until fruiting was antiquated and that he had not seen any difference between that and leaving the filter patches (or micropore tape) on through the entire process.
Hope this helps 🤷
I think I will do this, I need to find a way to stop using those plastic bags I just can't accept wasting that much
So how did it go? How did this tub do???
It went well! Here is one update video if you'd like to see: facebook.com/601170763/videos/1336268207093323/
Damn fungus gnats ate the root structure of my “indoor flowers” bastards
Bro how did it go? I see no update videos?
It went great! I don't post fruiting content though.
So i inoculated 2 bags..And they both have green spots among the white mycelium..Is that normal?
That is very normal but not in a good way. It means that your bags have been contaminated and another fungus is growing on the grain. Green is a classic sign of trichoderma. Sorry :(
@Comyco ok so are they completely ruined? Can you spot treat it some how?
@@HappyMayCope you can try but trichoderma is vicious. I'd recommend just starting over.
@Comyco damn that sucks. So does this mean it got infected while I was inoculating the bags, or is it possible the bags were already infected
@@HappyMayCope this is quickly becoming a classic question in mycology. Its hard to say. Usually trich only takes 4-7 days before it shows up and turns green though. So if your bags were fine for a long time before you inoculated, it was probably an error in sterile procedure.
You could be like George Costanza.
danke
The material inside the pads are plastic, a sort of plastic that can resorb water and hold it for a long time. The diaper industry are a real environment struggle no one talk about. But also the vermiculite are hazardous to inhale and the industry are not that environmental friendly so I would say that diapers are better to use.
Great video. Just some constructive criticism. Did you really have to show how you covered EACH HOLE with tape? One or two would have been sufficient and it would probably cut a few minutes off of your post.
I just fast forwarded that part.
I recently had to deal with fungus gnats 🤮
They're the worst :(
Ohhhh yes incontinence pads! I'm curious how you figured this out??? You pee the bed don't ya friend??? Its okay, me too 😁😁😁. Great idea!
are these magic mushies ?
Puppy pads are also more plastic and trash, unfortunately. 😢🤷♀️
I know compromise needs to happen. Please don't jump down my throat (commenters). 🥺🥺🥺 We also can't get better in any area if we conveniently "forget" that "better" is a goal. That's all. Also, he mentioned in the video that he IS concerned with environmental impact (not those words, but that message). So I'm NOT trying to "preach", ok?🤞
Edit: I didn't post this originally because I honestly do not have much experience.
Sorry you’ve been having such a rough patch! I hope things improve for you soon!
What do you use to heat the tub with?
The first 12 minutes is something that could have been edited
