    Another well researched and informative video. Here's a comment for the TH-cam algorithm.

      I find myself caught up in a dam frenzy. So many dam ideas.

    Can you talk about the new Baiheitan Dam, for which AI was used to build it in just 4 years? Maybe the proposed Yarlung-Tsangpo superdam in the same video?

    8:14 I put little stake in Google maps' depiction of China for anything more accurate than 1km

      Just a classic case of someone looking too seriously at something. To me it’s just a basic image distortion from stitching together different pics.

    0:59 that dam is worth between 5 and 6 World Trade Center subway stations

    The mother river - yellow river is also insanely hard handed when it comes to slapping her kids.

    Good summary but should point out a slight mistake at the end where it claims the dam itself would cause the loss of natural levee buildup through sedimentation. Sedimentation along riverbanks actually increases flood risk by raising the riverbed. This is how deltas are built up and also how rivers change their course over time. What dams do sometimes cause is increased erosion down river from the dam by reducing sediment in river water, thus increasing the sediment carrying capacity of the water. This can over time potentially erode badly constructed levees, like packed earth levees. Otherwise, the impact is negligible.

    I was read from Quora page, a Chinese engineer says 3G dam so far is succesfull doing his job by lower flood damage to downstream city by control flood water because flood control is the main goal of 3G dam, irigation the second and producing power just tthe third.
    But if you focus on reduce 100% flood damage, Yangtze river need 5 or 6 more dam like 3G dam.

      he should made a video today, downstream and upstream they have high floods!!! and all livecam are blocked!!! why, something to hide?

    This gives a better idea of the ability of the TGD to discharge floodwater near its breeching level, however, some cracking gives concern.

    Has the TGD collapsed yet? You came across the speculation on the possibility of the dam collapsing...gosh, there's something you don't see every day, more like every 12 minutes would be more accurate.

    The dam stayed firm .. and stood the test of ultimate floods.

      But the test never ends, and the ultimate flood may had yet to come. Hopefully the dam was not felled by the flood it was supposed to control.

    The trouble with all this is that we know there was a lot of cost cutting/corruption when the dam was built, your diagnosis is fine "if" it was built as was specified..., the trouble is we know from lots of other inferstructure failures in China that this probably didn't happen.

    • @Asianometry

    • @Ezekiel903
      @Ezekiel903 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      this dam has a lot of problem, that's why they have shut down the 4 live stream camera!! all the garbage in the sea, they flooded entire city's, the water is more dirty then ever before and the satellite picture shows the dam is not more stable!! even the CCP admitted it, but they say it is still in the parameter, but no one knows what they mean with it!! Uber region has no more fish, this is a real propaganda video!
