Hi Dennis, I’m a diyer trying to refinish my cabinets. When speaking with the Waterbased finishes sales department today I was told that I needed to use 643 and 851 at 10%. Is that not the case? I saw in several of your comments about using just 5%. Thanks in advance. I know this is an older video so I hope this reaches you.
great video, great comment section. I'm shooting 851 10 sheen now and have to match sheen to partial kitchen. Can I blend the 1321 30 sheen since they are both 1k/2k? I need a 15 sheen..🙄
Thanks for taking the time to share you knowledge. What was cleanup of the T5 like? I am currently using paints and HVLP, but looking to transition to both TriTech T5 and 2K. Worried about cleaning the airless alone. Moreso with a cat finish like 2K.
That's all that needed for benefits of coatings that's what this coating calls for maybe if I wasn't gonna run primer maybe id.do. 10% but other then that no need
Thanks for the informative video. I have been painting cabinets with Pre cat Kem acqua and am happy with 8t but have heard a lot of good things about Renner 2k. Maybe a stupid question but how would you compare the two? Also what stain blocking primer do you use with it? Would Shellac based BIN work with it? TIA
Hey Dennis, I saw one of your cabinet painting videos and I think you mentioned you were using a Graco X5. Did you use the X5 with the TriTech spray gun or were you using an entire TriTech airless sprayer with the TriTech gun? Also, you mentioned you CANNOT spray vinyl sealer using the X5...I have a Graco ProX17 and I'm going to assume I cannot spray vinyl sealer through it either. Am I correct? Thanks in advance for your reply.
Hi Dennis, I appreciate finding this video today. I love Renner stuff but I haven't tried shooting a 2k product yet ( 1094 and 1374 primarily ). The pot life is 4 hours on the Renner Catalyst - cleaning out your gun I imagine should be completed within that 4 hour window ?
Well yes. When your done. Spraying you have to clean out rig. Or take chance of material getting hard and curing in your. Pump. That would be catastrophic nobody wants that. If Nothing else. Save material on sade and flush. One 60 oz water bucket. Thru. And then if material hasn't hardened up. You can try to use. It. If you keep coatings cool. They will give u lil longer pot life. Good luck
@@dennisrodriguez9700 Thanks... I was thinking more about between coatings... I am in the northeast so it takes the full 2 hours for the 851 to dry sandable most of the year. That means I can't get my 3 coatings down before I have to worry about the gun... but just flushing the system is good and then go ahead with the 3rd coating and do full cleaning at the end of the job ( new wood , not refinishing which is why I prefer 3 coatings. )
So. Fans will extremely help. The issue of drying some small box fans. And possibly some infrared heaters. I use them all the time. Onsite and in shop. It will cut dry times down bye half. On 1st and 2nd coat now on final coats you can just let them be this will alow you to achieve best finish. So while fans or going on 1st and 2nd coat. Incase a lil nib or something gets in coat not a worry. It can be sanded out for final coat then spray and just let em be. So they can dry naturally. And this will give you best results
Isolator is a bonding blocking coating that helps to encapsulate issues that you might see in some refinishing projects or a substrate that has issues with adhesion this will do both. We use it for cabinets that are plastic as bonding element and for doors that are giving us concerns of bleed or adhesion this will promote bonding and blocking
Hey Dennis, thank you for the knowledge, it’s a huge help. I’m doing 643/851 in a 1k coming up and I’m curious, you ever mix it right up in the 5 gallon bucket? Like instead of doing small portions, just mix the full 5 gallons at once?
Na man you will destroy the batch unless u gonna shoot all of it in one shot typically we do gallon or half gallons in pump. Or. A cup gun you can.mis as little ad 6 oz
stupid question, are you using the 1K or 2K isolator or I don't know is there such thing as a solvent isolator? I've had sap issues before never thought of using the isolator! Thanks for that👍
Great job Dennis. Look forward to the next video. Quick question when you run smaller tips such as a 308 do you find that you have to increase your pressure to get the best atomization. If you are running a 310 tip at 1200 psi when you switch to the 308 would you need to increase your pressure or are you still finding out that you are able to atomize at the same pressure? Just curious I have had weird issues recently with the Renner and having to turn the pressure up to around 1600psi to get the proper atomization
851. 2211 765. 718. And a couple others typically 1300 more then enough but sometimes when catalyst is added you need to bump it up. Also depending on. Temp of coatings with the tritech and because of the pump efficiency not really as bad as other pumps. So can run at alot lower preasure
@@dennisrodriguez9700 first, you make spraying look so easy! Second, I'm new to 2k. I'm running Renner 643 with 10% catalyst through a Graco with FFLP 310 tip. I had major problems with fingering. I'd have to go unclog and it would go back to normal. Do you think I need to thin out? If so, what do I use to thin and how much? Keep up the videos brother. You give a lot of great info!
@@anthonym2504 no thinning required really depends on what. Airless your using some of the smaller units just don't have the push you need for these coatings but typically u can turn up pump and eliminate alot of these issues. I never thin material the issue with thinning in my Opinion your cutting the coatings. So. If I can avoid it I do at all Costs. Maybe your tip. Is bad. That could another issue or an old tip that's blown out.
So 5 % is typical of Renner coatings just for instance 40oz material would be 40× 5% 2 oz. Pretty simple how many oz your using just multiply bye 5% that's it that will give u ratio
@@dennisrodriguez9700 I can relate. Im learning this stuff ( on my own cabinets not a customer) I didn't want to ruin the gallon of Sayerlack by adding cross linker. Sayerlack asks for 1% crosslinker--- because I was practicing with small batches, I would mix up 250 ml at a time and spray, its a pain in the ass trying to pour out 2.5 milliliters of cross linker. I struggled with this aspect of finishing- but finally, I figured our a system using small cups and baking spoons.
@@John33gfed the nice thing about crosslinker is most times it can be used in coatings up to 3 times. I'd look at the data sheet. Even with sayer lack. You should be able to use it and 8 hrs later crosslink it again. Well that's how it is with all other European style coatings and can be crosslink up to 3 times
Where did you get that mixing paddle?

I was wondering the exact same thing.. I've seen some cabinet sprayers go as high as 15%.

Do you usually stay at 5% catalyst with all renner coatings, why not at 10% as recocommended? Does is flow better off the gun at 5%?

Not really comparison these water-based 2k on a whole other level. Durability and stain resistant. 643 2k is one of better blocking primers
Went to training to start using this kind of products, I’ll be working with ICRO, I think almost same process, thanks for sharing
Good luck getting product they have had issues keeping supply. Might be better option envirolak Renner or centurion with much better supply chain

Yes originally I was using x5 with tritech gun still do from time to time works well
How much time do you have to spray the product after you mix the catalyst .. and can you reuse the leftovers?
Typically about 4 hours. And after coatings starts to gel it's no good
how you dont get dust in the finish with sheetrock stacked there and construction going on in the other room?
Mixing catalyst with Renner 5% by volume or by weight? I see some people use the weigh to measure 5%. Is it ok measure with measuring cup?
Thanks, have had that problem with knotty pine. What was your isolator?
Tf 1525. From ilva. Good stuff solvent.
Whats the ratio of catalyst per gallon? Thank you!
Just depends on coatings some 5% and some 10%

You only have a 4-hour window after adding the catalyst depending on how hot it is where the product is used...
Is the yc 403 catalyst Same as tge yc 1400 hardener?
There both compatability with all Renner coatings
Love the video!!! Really helpful actually. Curious, why the 851 instead of the 688? Please keep making videos.

What would the ratio be for one gallon of material to catalyst.
128×5% equals 6.25 oz
