The tow rating is because of the softer off road oriented springs which lack the stiffness to combat resonant trailer sway in certain very unlikely situations.
Is it a simple upgrade need? What would a replacement option be to safely increase towing capacity? Is it as easy as the spring materials? It's hard to find small campers. Fabric sided pop-ups are not ideal for us. 🫣
I bought the 2022 Ford Bronco Sport Auto Banks, 1.5Lts. Engine last July 2022 and now have 4.5k kilometres. Paid $47k before tax for it and yes, its pricy here in Canada. After watching your channel, I didn’t hesitate to pull a trailer. I pulled a 12’ x 6’ all steel heavy trailer borrowed from my son, to move a friend to their new apartment, so mostly furniture. It was very impressing with the performance. It took only .2 Lt. per 100K more for the full day we use it. Went up-hill toward the Sudbury old water tower without lacking power. Ford did it good again. It my second Bronco, my first was a 1978 full size Bronco. The best built by Ford in my opinion. Thank you guys for your channel.
I am sure the lack of towing capicity is due to the off road focus of this vehicle. Ford wanted it to be great off-road so I am sure they sacrificed towing for off-road capability.
2200 lbs is good enough for me. It you want a rv trailer you need 7500-14000 anyway so it is not the goal here. I think for an off road trailer or a small trailer it is perfect. I agree it is the short wheel base that is limiting but this is also the factor the bronco sport is good in off road.
The Escape with the 2.0 is about 3500lbs, the Wrangler and the Bronco, I think are around 3500lbs max, so you can say they are sacrificing towing for offloading also.
@@CC-gt3ro it just doesn't make sense that the same basic vehicle with a different body and some different terrain modes would tow 1/3rd less. The problem with that is you never really want to tow any your max limit. You subtract max tongue from that and not too much else can be inside before you are over the limit. That is what they noticed was a huge problem on the Wrangler diesel also. If you towed at max weight you could only have two people, cargo before you were over the limit.
@@MrBillsfishin they are not the same vehicle, wheel base size, suspension, 4x4 transmission, the vehicle is designed differently for different purpose. An escape has not the off road capabilities. These are NOT the same basic vehicle..
About $10k less here in the US for the Badlands Bronco Sport. I've seen a few other videos on the Bronco Sport showing a bit of trail driving and its more capable than you'd think.
It is not that bad. Currently all taxes included the badlands edition with all options, including trailer 360 assist badlands luxury package and safari roof and bicycle carrier, off road tyres, roof bar, orange cyber extra, you get it at 56000 canadian dollars and soon ford will probably do an employer price -4000 so around 51/52000 and their rates is around 2,99% so far better than a rav4 you cannot get anyway because they cannot build the battery. You have an off road vehicle capable to harsh condition. For me it is good. And the vehicle is good on road as well confortable seat, good tech camera, good interior ideas. No for me it is not that expensive.
@@CC-gt3ro I guess we all justify our spending differently. To me $52 000 for that is horrible. I can buy a decent bungalow for $100 000. I was really shocked at the 2 door Bronco. That, with Sasquatch, $52 000.
@@TheBeatenPaths try to find a car at less than $30000 canadian taxes included today..You will have the very very basic small sedan...not an suv capable to go off road..the major number of suv car (not even off road) are around 40000/45000 + taxes and these are city suv (sometime with more luxury interior) but not real off road capabilities. We cannot find a good hatchback car like my Pontiac vibe 2009 at 21900+taxes. This does not exist anymore. Everything is above 30000$+ taxes with few equipment necessary and minimum of comfort. And please don’t give me crap Hyundai and Kia examples..i don’t want a crappy korean car that take fire. I agree with you that today prices are high, but this is inflation. Finally somebody says the bronco sport is a direct competitor with the Jeep COMPASS and NOT the Jeep Renegade. All other reviewers are saying Renegade, but I’m proving them wrong
Agreed with the tow rating. I am an advocate for trailer brakes regardless of the weight. The trailer brakes definitely takes some wear and tear off of the tow vehicle. Agreed with the price too. Not kind of expensive. Expensive!
If I recall trailer brakes are required over 2,000lbs here in Idaho...with a vehicle that small you'd definitely want trailer brakes on any trailer you'd try to tow...first time down a long grade without trailer brakes and you'd never want to try it again.
Well, it has rear vectoring AWD with 2 manual selectors to close clutch in middle and rear, something i wish ivtm4 would have and that is why it's probably pricier, so in theory that is much superior to Renegade awd which has only center clutch selector and brake traction... but Cherokee has proper rear mechanical locker and 2 speed transfer case
Unless the 4RUNNER is discontinued, Ford have no chance with mediocre offerings. As I said previously, they need to make it ladder frame and inline 6 or at least a V6 naturally aspirated engine.
Toyota isn't discontinuing the Runner, the only product I would even consider from Ford is the F-150 this Bronco bullshit (I'm talking about the real one, not this Ford Escape) will be full of problems, you'll see
@@RagingBad Totally agree with you. At least even wrangler have a deep heritage and they are protecting the brand really well except for those turbo engines but Bronco is lacking continuity in heritage. Like you said they borrowing a platform from another vehicle and riding on Bronco nameplate. Ford did the same BS few years ago with a Taurus name. The most recent Taurus they discontinued have no heritage to the original last generation of the previous Taurus. Get the point Ford? Get up and rise up, once you rise up then you can charge 47K for Bronco until then reduce the price to maybe at the most high 20K. 😂
We don’t want another dip with our American car brands like what happened in 2009. This is their chance to survive another dip with deep heritage vehicles. People who are in the market to buy these nameplates like 4Runner, Wrangler, Bronco, Tahoe buy with emotions so giving people the best reliability is crucial. These folks are spending far more than 30K for these vehicles so don’t disguise with mediocre platform. Give them the best so they will return to the brand buy the Grand Wagoneer, Surbuban, Landcruiser (LX570 now) and Lincoln Navigator.
Pretty sure this competes with the Rav4 not the 4Runner. Initially Ford had some issues with all the Turbo engines but they have seemed to iron out the major issues over the last decade or so and although I wouldn't buy one it appears they might actually have a head start on what many will have to do to meet emissions. We can hope with this little hint of recent excitement from TRD and such that they have been paying attention. Maybe the new Tundra will actually have a locker and at least 33" to 35" inch tires and the Tacoma will have the same locker in the rear but now at least a Torsen or Full Selectable front locker like the Colorado. They need to bring a top model truck this time. Also with at least 33" to 35" tires on top models.
Very good review! It IS way too expensive for what you get and I believe Ford is going to find that out on their bottom line. For that price, I could get a new full size P/U and tow and go anywhere I want.
A full size supercrew F-150 is going to run you a lot more, similarly equipped. To get the same kind of price, you would need to spend $48,000. And that's just a 4x4 with the FX-4 off road package, trailer hitch, 2.7L EcoBoost (required with the FX4 pkg) and cruise control. It doesn't have the cameras, interior, etc. So, no. You can't get a pickup for the same price, unless it's pretty much a base unit.
@@JamesPhieffer $41,475 for a supercab F150 4x4 XL 4L V8. I can buy an F250 4x4 XL 7.3L V8 for $43,695 with rear locker. Once again all I need is a work truck not a family sedan...and still have almost $5k left in my pocket. @@9-seven yeah, it's just a sport. The sport has been out for a month at least, and most if not all ford dealers should have some in stock. It's still a nice looking small suv, i saw some at Ford last week, but not the big burly one everyone (outside the city areas) is waiting for.
I was very excited for the Bronco when it was announced. When I looked closer at the price/value and realized I could get a decked out Wrangler Rubicon for the price of a mildly equipped, mid tier Bronco, I started thinking about another Jeep instead. Now I'm back and forth between new Jeep and that new Frontier. I'm hoping Nissan doesn't follow suit with Ford and price the new Frontier too high because I reallllly like that truck.
I couldn’t wait any longer and drove a 2021 Jeep Rubicon. I couldn’t believe how nice it was. I waited a week to think about it and drove back to buy it. Got $4800 off sticker price on a loaded Rubicon. I AM IN LOVE!!!
@@DUNEATV Yeah, I was not even looking for a new vehicle but the Bronco got me so excited, I went and bought a Silverado Trail Boss haha. It makes no sense but I have no regrets! Nissan's timeline for their Frontier is a bit more reasonable...

Every time I see the Bronco Sport I think of the Jeep Renegade, at least in the trail hawk trim. They seem to be the only off road focused midsize "SUVs", and seem to have very similar capabilities all around.
I drove one and the outside looks and seating position reminded me of my beloved Land Rover that I no longer own. However, nothing was was broken, the switches were not oddly placed, and there was a Ford power train certainly gave me more confidence than the Land Rover. I think if it were an inch wider I would have it in the driveway right now. My wife drives a Ford Edge. If this was the same interior width as the Edge with this seating position, my decision would be easy. However, no decision was made as of yet. Sadly, for Ford, I decided to compare it to the Chevy ZR2, but then for the price of that I could get the Custom Trail Boss, and now I’m looking at the LT Trail Boss. So, while I’ve yet to rule it out, I may have moved on to much more vehicle. But I do love the seating position of the Bronco Sport. Huge props to Ford for copying a selling point from Land Rover on that.
I was hoping for a little bit more trailer capacity to rig up a nice little teardrop camper too. I haven't trouble finding anything this lightweight that's more than a glorified tent.
@@GH-to7xt I have a hyundai santa fe which is much bigger than a renegade, and the bronco sport really didnt look that much smaller next to it. About the same height, maybe a little less wide and a foot or so shorter. Pretty much looks the same size as all the rav4s and CRVs you see in the real world.
@@carguyeyedoc Height isn’t really part of the equation when deciding tow rating or picking what class of vehicle it belongs in. The width and length is much more relevant. So if it’s less wide and a foot shorter, than it’s a smaller vehicle
I really like the idea of the Sport for most people but not at that price. Sure it will go more places than a Crosstreck or a Forrester but not $10000 more places. Heck its about the entry price of a 4Runner, ZR2, and more than Wrangler Unlimited. They will still sell a lot of them to people that only go soft roading. Once the Bronco is for sale, they won't sell the Sport much and will have to lower the price considerably.
They will keep selling it to all the posers that can't afford the real Bronco, they are crazy with those prices, I'll rather pay a little more and get a real 4x4 that's reliable like the 4Runner
That's why I bought a Ecosport for half the price. It is rated at 2000 lb towing, no turbos to fail, most owner reviews say the vehicle has been very reliable, and its a little smaller so it will tuck into those smaller parking spots. I have trucks as well but was looking for something that could haul two quads on a 12ft trailer and fit better in those lots that my f250 and 20ft trailer have trouble with. I liked the styling of the bronco sport but it just didn't bring enough to the table to justify the price. Better to have the higher tow capacity of the escape unless you really do expect to offroad in the vehicle.
Its an ecoboost 1L 3 cylinder yes it has a turbo....wait...they have a 2L 4 cylinder non-turbo in the high end model...good to know, thanks. I looked at the base model only so my initial comment is only somewhat true LOL. Thanks for making me go look up the information. As for your Ecosport and 12' trailer I'd hope you would find it fits better in places your F250 and 20' trailer have a hard time with LOL. The Ecosport & 12' trailer is about half the length HAHA!!!
@@wildbill23c Yes, I got the SE AWD version which has the 2.0 non-turbo motor and 6 speed trans. I specifically went for the SE model because its was the highest trim model that kept the 16" rims. The titanium and SES both go to 17" with those thin low profile tires that ride like crap and ding rims in pot holes. I did get a chance to try it out on a trip to some wisconsin trails and it towed the two atvs (Honda Rancher and Honda Rubicon) on the trailer pretty good. It was very stable but I did have to put it in select shift mode and lock out 6th gear to keep it from shifting so much (very hilly drive on the way there). When I got there the lot was packed and some dummies parked their truck and trailers blocking the exit of the parking lot. While some people had to do the slow reverse out of the lot I was able to backup and do a 180 with the room that was left. Plus its much easier to judge how far back your trailer is since your whole combo is shorter. Overall the ecosport has been fun so far. For kicks I looked up the pricing and for the same price as the bronco sport badlands you can get a ford ranger crew cab XL 4x4 with the 101a and STX package (about $36k). That is going to be a much better vehicle for towing and off road plus for a couple of extra bucks you can get the electronic rear locker. If bronco sport with the 2.0 could be had for $29k then maybe but I can't find a reason to buy it over a ranger.
Ford is loosing Ground in Germany to Hyundai/Kia in big steps but seems to ignore it or realise that. There are not even Rumors to Release the Sport in EU Markets. We have no need for the Big Bronco - but the Sport will sell like Hot Cake. Hmm...
But Ford is still doing better that Opel. Besides that Ford is still selling more to fleets than Hyundai (car rental, Post, Telekom etc. And so do the other top brands. In 2019 the Mitsubishi Outlander had more private customers than the VW Passat).

I think the Bronco Sport is going to eat into the Subaru market. People that need all wheel drive because of where they live, or activities they participate in, and identity themselves as outdoors people. They need something a little more capable than a 2x4, and want something that looks rugged. A base model Bronco is only slightly more expensive than a base Jeep Wrangler, and the Bronco comes with AC, absolutely mandatory in my book. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

The 2020 Escape 2.0L has 3500lbs tow cap. My wife's does but we will never tow with it. I have a 2020 6.7L powerstroke. The reason the tow rating, may be because of a higher curb weight and taller tires to start. The load on the rear power transfer unit is higher. The higher tow rating is based on the on-road only nature of the Escape. Try towing 12k on a Silverado or Ram 1500, or F150 I. An off road situation. Lol broken parts
Does anyone out there actually know why the escape can tow more than this? Doesnt make sense to me. Maybe the off road capable suspension is worse for towing?
I think they are just looking at stress on the hitch. The Bronco is an off road capable vehicle so the 3500 lbs is reduced to 2200 lbs for off road because 3500 lbs off road would overload and damage the hitch.
@@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 so then how can a Jeep cherokee trailhawk tow 4500 lbs? That’s the direct competitor with the bronco sport and tows twice as much.

You have to upgrade the motor to a 3.2L V6 and buy the Max Tow Package to get the 4500 lbs tow rating. The 2.0L (turbo) is rated lower at 4000 lbs with the Max Tow Pkg. On the Jeep it will state in the manual only tow X% when towing off road. I think it's 50% or 60%.

Kind of...I think it may be a bit shorter even. The new Bronco is supposedly closer to between the size of the Bronco 2 and the original Broncos....smaller than the 79-96 full size Broncos, but with the offroad capability of the original Bronco, Bronco 2 and full size Bronco. The top of the line edition looks good inside. But the lower versions look real cheap. Especially for the price. Also that thing has next to no ground clearance. Off reading that would not go well. Unless your talking about dirt roads. Fords GOAT system is just stupid and I bet will be costly down the road. All it is is a clutch pack in the transfer case. And that means wear. @@wildbill23c it’s a miracle you can change the fluid in it. Ford put out a bunch of SUV that were sealed units and they were failing like crazy. Built in service revenue or just really poor engineering Take your pick....
I test drove one and then ordered one. Demand is high enough that special orders are taking five months and longer. Ford has a baked in market after years of pent up demand for anything Bronco, surely the price will either come down or incentives will be offered next year or the year after. As for the Jeep products, Renegade is cute, Compass is bland and the Cherokee looks good but too wagon like for me. I'm also puzzled by the low tow rating, but Ford has low tow ratings on everything except their trucks and that may be the answer. Look at the Explorer, full frame, big power, mediocre tow rating.
Nice to see someone do a towing review. It’s curious why the Sport tow rating is so much lower than escape, it’s only a couple inches shorter in wheelbase than the escape, I think nine inches overall shorter. I keep hearing it’s because of the more off-road tuned suspension. After having mine out the other day in an off-road ‘park’ nearby I was blown away by how soft it felt and absorbed all the bumps. That must have an effect on towing? I’m a complete newb to this stuff but learning as I go is a lot of fun. Video to my latest adventure is here if you want to check it out. Loving the content and seeing Ontario plates! Lol th-cam.com/video/Vq9lPGIuT9w/w-d-xo.html
Softer suspension for the offroad capability means you get less towing capability....softer springs means you can't hookup a heavy trailer and still have cargo capacity and not be rubbing the fenders on the tires LOL. They built the Bronco Sport as a compact offroader across the line, even the base model, so they compromised towing capacity. With a vehicle that size you don't wanna be towing much with it anyways, too heavy of a trailer would take control of the tow vehicle in high winds, going down hills, etc.
Way overpriced. Hopefully these don’t sell and they will get heavy discounts. I have seen only 1 on the road so far around me and I do a lot of driving on the 401 and 403 here in Ontario. I think the pricing is definitely scaring people away from this vehicle
With a CVT transmission no less. Not too sure I’d try it but the tow rating of the outback is about right. Too bad the Forrester doesn’t have that rating or many other SUVs.
Drove by a dealer and saw this in the parking lot. Looks cheap. Wouldn't be in my driveway. Too many other mini SUV's that are much better designed. Lots of hype but nothing more.
The tow rating is because of the softer off road oriented springs which lack the stiffness to combat resonant trailer sway in certain very unlikely situations.

About $10k less here in the US for the Badlands Bronco Sport. I've seen a few other videos on the Bronco Sport showing a bit of trail driving and its more capable than you'd think.
Canadian pricing is outrageous. Even after you calculate the exchange rate.... we're getting gouged.
I can buy a decent bungalow for $100 000.

true. direct competitor with the Jeep COMPASS is Ford Bronco Sport , direct competitor with the Jeep Renegade is Ford Bronco.
It looks like it would compare to the beep renegade! Especially with the tow rating and look also! Great video
The Jeep renegade is a Econ shot box this can actually function on the highway even with the 3 banger the compass is a far better match
@@wildbill23c Agreed! Like I said, I personally like brakes on all trailers I tow.
Besides the "naturally aspirated" v6 part, they are making that competitor. It's called the bronco and will be out next year or later this year
Toyota isn't discontinuing the Runner, the only product I would even consider from Ford is the F-150 this Bronco bullshit (I'm talking about the real one, not this Ford Escape) will be full of problems, you'll see
@@RagingBad Totally agree with you.
My Tundra was 4 grand CAD more last year. I have a whole truck...like you said.

I was very excited for the Bronco when it was announced. Straight to the rental fleets with this!
I'm having the same issue. Any luck?
Bronco sport has 4 doors yes. Big bronco coming later has a 2 door and 4 door option.

You are not alone in that feeling.
But I will buy a fully loaded Bronco Sport Badlands.

The full size Broncos from I think 83 till end of production in 96 were based on the F-150 pickup, same exact vehicle just chopped the bed off threw a back seat in it and a cover over the cargo area.
The Bronco Sport is even smaller than the original 60's and 70's Bronco. The Bronco 2 is a close size to the original 60's and 70's Broncos, and the 79-96 Broncos were full size trucks.
The new Bronco is supposedly closer to between the size of the Bronco 2 and the original Broncos....smaller than the 79-96 full size Broncos, but with the offroad capability of the original Bronco, Bronco 2 and full size Bronco.

I can hope in 2025/2028 a bronco sport with solid state battery and 500 miles and 10 mins charge with the off road quality. Or a phev with both gas engine and a small solid state battery with 150 miles autonomy and more than 1000kms autonomy total It would be incredible.
Just put a 4x4 switch in there. 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. 3 cyl or 4 cyl.... Your not going to tow much with a 3 cyl engine
Yep its all fun and games till that PTU fails and has to be replaced, its non-serviceable as far as repairs, all you can do is change the fluid in it.
@@wildbill23c it’s a miracle you can change the fluid in it.
Ford put out a bunch of SUV that were sealed units and they were failing like crazy.
Built in service revenue or just really poor engineering
Take your pick....
This is a jeep renegade competitor, as per what Ford calls it
It looks like a Ford Exploder and Edge had a baby.🤪 No thanks. Hopefully the regular Bronco will look more off-road.
Nice 👍🏼
The only problem with the Bronco sport is the price
I test drove one and then ordered one. Demand is high enough that special orders are taking five months and longer.
Ford has a baked in market after years of pent up demand for anything Bronco, surely the price will either come down or incentives will be offered next year or the year after.
As for the Jeep products, Renegade is cute, Compass is bland and the Cherokee looks good but too wagon like for me.
I'm also puzzled by the low tow rating, but Ford has low tow ratings on everything except their trucks and that may be the answer. Look at the Explorer, full frame, big power, mediocre tow rating.
Only 2200 pounds 🥺pop ups for camping are etleast 3,ooo pounds ,there goes that🙃🥺
So what you're saying it's a Ford Escape? It's about what I expected. I had high hopes.
That's exactly what he said, also the Escape tows more
for that price we can get a Sahara real 4x4
GM for me. Prices of current ford lineup way to high...for me the fad and hype is way over. Mat first awesome then the pricing was announced........
Lol

@@wildbill23c thanks man, kinda what I thought and makes sense
99.9 % of people will not tow with this SUV 🚙 so they don't care 🤷♂️ what is tow rating.....2500..,,,,3500 they don't care 🤷
Great looking SUV....but...I would never pay that kind of money for a small SUV....thats full size pick up truck money
Way overpriced. Hopefully these don’t sell and they will get heavy discounts. I have seen only 1 on the road so far around me and I do a lot of driving on the 401 and 403 here in Ontario. I think the pricing is definitely scaring people away from this vehicle
40K for an disguised Escape? let me think, NOP!!!!!
new boss, it's all about the $$. look at rust in the f150. build cars people want to own, not just drive. the money will come.
I have to say no way is it worth that kind of money but I live in the dirty south of you so your prices always scare me anyway. Lol
$47000 not a chance!! That’s F150 money!!
Way too expensive for what you get
its a great car for the wife about it
It too expensive and I agree it can not tow very much
It's sad when you can be outtowed by a Subaru outback shit crazy
With a CVT transmission no less. Not too sure I’d try it but the tow rating of the outback is about right. Too bad the Forrester doesn’t have that rating or many other SUVs.
I'll take an older bronco any day over these new plastic boxes they have coming out.
Did you get your old Broncos yet?
If I'm getting a piece of shit I prefer to get a better piece of shit, so a Wrangler is a better choice, besides, wtf with that price? Smh
$47,500!!??? No thx...
Its cute though lol
Worth $35k
Drove by a dealer and saw this in the parking lot. Looks cheap. Wouldn't be in my driveway. Too many other mini SUV's that are much better designed. Lots of hype but nothing more.
You looked at it while driving by? That's some seriously thorough evaluation! Thanks for that valuable input; I have no more questions.
This is just another pavement princess for those that want a status symbol
Get a 2012 V6 Ford Escape it’s better than this and can tow more
Looks like a reskinned Ford Explorer. Not sure if I like the looks of this version.
The want is strong with this one. Damn that color combo is fire 🔥
Ford got a winner on their hand for sure.
Not worth the moneyJeep still number one in my book
Stupid decision on ford's part
Rip off city no thanks. Especially the first gen which will most likely have issues.
Already has 2 recalls.
Truthfully it looks a lot like the crappy ford flex
