This guide is what I needed when I started. Of course I knew the route but for most of the harder jumps and strats I didn't had an explanations so I made my own strats. Watching this now shows me that there are easier or more consistent ways. Really looking forward to kingdoms where I still struggle with a lot. Good job!
I think it would be quite interesting if you would put a timer in that everybody can see what would be a good gold for a beginner. It's kind of frustrating when you compare your first times to the ones of top runners even when you know that they do way better than you and have a lot of practice. A beginners gold time would be a good first goal to work towards. You could also say how much the beginner time is off of top runners golds. When you did guides for all kingdoms you could easily sum up all times to show a good SoB goal for beginners.
Once I finish all of the beginner's guide videos I'll be making a full beginner's route video with split times and such. I chose not to include them with these videos because they would be IL timings instead of what a regular run would look like and I figured that would be confusing to new runners.

Man I grinded so hard on this today, I really want to start doing runs, and I can now do Jaxie skip mostly every time, this level is so good for speedrunning because of how open it is.

On Jaxi Skip, if you're having trouble doing it consistently, you can boot around the the opposite side of the tower and crash there. There's a narrow ledge you can stand on to jump to the top.

@@DerkDurski Dude!!!! Me too!!!! I am also starting to learn metro kingdom, but decided to go back to try to optimize my times on past kigdoms, at the moment i am able to end lost kingdom at 33:12, its not that great, but i think its ok taking into account i just started.

I really do appreciate that you would go through this trouble. I'll try to keep practicing it, but it is really hard, especially since I don't know how to do many of those cap jump moves.
I know you probably won't see this, but a for a cap jump, you press X, ZL, then Y. If you want to jump off of the cap, you hold Y. you can do two of them in a jump, but can only jump of the first one. Hope this helped.

When you get up to jaxi ruins, you can stand behind the chest and open it, to clip you through the chest, saving time. Like so others can see

Hey smant I know you won't see this because this videos 5 years old but I just wanted to thank you for inspiring me to commit to getting good at the game, speedrun and commit to a full run. I am a kid and I do have school so it was hard for me to fit it in but I managed a time of 2 hours 6 minutes. Your tutorials have helped me. smallant please start making smo content again
Huh. I got down to a 1:15 without ever learning that you could just smash the bullet bill onto the jaxi tower. I've been timing the un-capture and dying to that trick a lot. Thanks for the tip! I love all the little detail that's added here!
I had so much trouble with jaxi skip until I figured out it could be crashed into the wall too! Definitely a helpful one!

Just wanted to mention that on the odyssey ride cappy opens the action guide for you, if you press b to continue the dialogue it will save about a second or 2 because it just has the loading animation and doesn't actually load it

Thank you so much for the tutorials, Smallant, they are a huge help! One question, though. For the jump with the cheep cheep, I almost never have my Z input go through the first time. For some reason, I almost never uncapture the cheep cheep the first time, but it works very often when I go through for a second attempt. Am I doing something wrong?

Because of this video I was able to make it from the beginning of the game to the end of sand kingdom in 17:52 on my first attempt

I’m still learning this. For the life of me I can’t get onto the Jaxi building! Anyway a question - after collecting a moon, what determines whether you throw cappy or not to change direction?

I've been doing a slightly different run. I find it a bit inconsistent jumping out the bullet bill to where the Jaxi is so I generally skip it. Once you capture bullet bill and grab the star at 3:57, ride the bullet bill to the cactus. You can always grab another moon to replace that if you want (ie the moon behind the shop).
You're not supposed to jump from the bullet bill though! Just crash it into the wall as the video describes and its much easier!

That’s actually what I did yesterday. I decided I wasn’t good enough of Jaxi skip, so I did what you did. Instead of grabbing the shop moon, though, and grabbed the Sphinx moon.
I managed to perfect Jaxi Skip on my first try!
I was wondering why I was seeing that annoying cutscene when I warped in sand, didn't know it was because of the checkpoint. Thanks! Is that true for all kingdoms?
Yes! it applies to all kingdoms. The only other kingdom that this generally happens in is metro when you warp up to the tower.
3:34 you can grab the bullet bill, get the moon on the pillar, then get the one in the block without needing to recapture the bill

If you can’t do jaxi skip then you can get the taking notes moon after the where the birds gather moon
I've seen koopa freerunners do that fish jump without a fish, which looks like a good backup strat if I miss it the first time. Do you have any tips for doing that consistently?

How are you supposed to get onto the ice pillar to the archway? I can never seem to do it right. I always end up hitting the ice pillar, soaring over it, or just sliding off.

I don’t know but thats a great question. I’ll have to experiment timing for both routes
Edit: I tested it out, and the notes save around 5 seconds (not exact). Plus, if you motion control roll from the “notes” moon to the odyssey, it is quicker than warping to the odyssey so that saves some time.
Edit 2: It actually does NOT save time to do the notes, in 1.3 the warping animation is quicker. I also realized I had done the timing wrong. The luggage moon is around 10 seconds faster (again, not exact).
hey, i've played this game for around 200 hours and have a lot of experience with the movement, should i incorporate things like spin-pounding or not
I'd start learning spin pounds once you get a sub 1:10 or so. It's up to you though!

I have a lot of trouble beating the boss in lake kingdom. A lot of the times the When I do the backflipping jump I end up not hitting his head and taking damage. Any tips?

I'll be making video tutorials for this strat and many others in the future which show inputs. I'll describe it here for you now though. Backflip, cap jump, and dive from the thin wall onto the higher part and long jump across. Once mario is in front of the hole in the wall, do an upthrow once mario is low enough that it won't immediately capture the bullet bill. Dive as fast as possible over to the moon making sure not to wallslide. Shake the controller right before getting the moon. After the moon cutscene, if everything was done correctly, cappy will home in onto the bullet bill and mario will be teleported up.

When you warp to the odyssey in sand in the first show off, you start warping with 1 moon short and arive with all moons. I dont get it, dont you need to take the music notes moon first?
I noticed the same thing, but I’m assuming that the one moon that your missing doesn’t matter and that you can still move on without it.
@@quakertheadventurer9796 no, before he warps he has 15, and when he arives he has 16, so its impossible. I think it an error with the editing, becouse normaly at that point you do have 16, but he edited the wrong things on the wrong places so when he starts je hasnt anough but when he finishes he dous. And its impossible to leave with less then 16 moons btw.
At 2:50 he loses a moon. It's because he wanted to show a semi-optimal run so it's a couple of segments spliced together.
It’s a spliced run. He puts clips from the optimal sections of the run.

The lonely pillar one, my bullet bills keep dying just before I get there and it's just out of reach. Yes I am shaking the controller.
Try to exit the bullet bill just before it disappears and then dive to the platform. Worked for me
Does anybody know a setup for the cheep cheep jump? I can’t ever get it in the right spot as the camera doesn’t look straight up. I can’t even reach the platform to attemp the jump to the fight.
Jump BEFORE the peak of the jump. After the peak, it won’t allow you to jump out of the cheep cheep. I had trouble with it too but try to time it right before you reach the bottom of the platform. Then wall jump and dive

Hold b about a second before you crash into the wall. Also, crash. The b hold, at least for me, feels like I get more height from the forced exit out of the bullet bill. Might just be me though.
Edit: I think b actually helps for the wall jump so you can wall jump quicker. Idk if it gives height. B helps so when you crash, all you have to do is move toward the area where you can wall jump (shown in the vid) and then let b go. If it is too confusing just don’t hold b.

I can’t do the jump at 18:45 ish can someone help ?
To make the jump, you want to hold Y to keep your cap in place, then press Y in midair, then press Z and Y while holding Y to bounce on your cap, then Z and Y to dive. Doing the jump like that can be a little bit tricky, so you can wallkick by pressing A, then throw your cap at the peak of your jump while holding toward the wall and press Z and Y to dive. It's a little bit difficult, but gets a lot easier with practice.

This is a beginner's guide, and the corner clip is a very difficult technique and only saves a little bit of time so it is not in the video.

Well no matter which one you do first, you still have to do both. Lake is just faster because you don’t have to switch the kingdom while selecting it, you can just mash A or B

It was an editing mistake. He wanted to get a good run so he edited two runs, and at the end he put in the second one. It looks like he missed a moon, but then he edits the first run back on.

Not at all. It has areas to improve though. This comment was 2 years before my comment though so you’ve probably played a lot more and improved

He got the bird in the oasis on that run, and then spliced together a clip from a different run from when he got the bird at the start

Dang. The ice crystal to gate part is so hard just got it after three hours of trying and can’t get it again if anyone has some tips it’s much appreciated
The tiny hill that goes up and then goes down right before the pillar, jump near the peak of that hill. I do triple jumps to get more height. Then, at the top part of the pillar, face the gate, do a ground pound jump, throw and dive, bounce, then dive again. DONT move the joystick. Hope this helps :)
why does none of the sand kingdom variations have the store moon
I’m not sure if you’re talking about the one you buy but generally takes too long for most players and you need enough coins. There is a moon in a secret area behind the counter called “employees only.”

No, it looks like it at the end due to an editing issue. When I was recording the end of sand I forgot to get the bird moon earlier which made it look like a moon disappeared after sphinx and reappeared after warping. I did collect enough moons in the video, the total at the end just doesnt reflect that!

Just out of curiosity, do you not need to get all moons in sand? With some of the routes, you would be one short but the game would let you leave.

I have a bunch of challenge ideas for you and one them is mod Zelda Botw so if take damage you permanently lose that Peice of health that you lost and if you die you just restart the run so it’s like a purmideath but without healing
