Haha I defiantly see your point, I'm also a casual gamer and own a PS5, Nintendo Switch and gaming PC. But I don't play competitive like in my childhood - early 20s. I just jump on to play some of the latest titles like the New God War or Pokemon Violet coming out soon or some backlog games which there are a ton of thanks to Playstation Plus. What I'm getting at is I defiantly space out my gaming, like I can play a game, beat it and take weeks or sometimes months off just to avoid that nonstop gaming routine addiction I use to have.
I'd say my worse addiction time period was from EverQuest then World of Warcraft for sure.
Anyways, enough of my rambling 🤣

8:26 if you want some clarification. its upscaling the resolution from 800p to 16:9 4k. if ya set it to 720p and upscale. it would've solved the bits of aliasing a bit.Theirs some weird bugs when forcing a game from 16:10 to a 16:9 screen and vice versa too.
but 720p to 4k. that is upscaling it by a factor of 8 (4k is roughly 8 times more pixels then 720p). soooo isnt going to be the prettiest thing from the get go/aliasing.

    • @Dracossaint
      @Dracossaint 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

16:9 is what ya want if ya don't want issues with inhome streaming, resolution doesn't matter . you can also set manual option via in steam settings for remote play on the host machine and tell it to match the display its streaming to. its dumb that isn't the default.
Keep in mind I am not trying to say 'oh your dumb blah blah'. nawwwww I just wana share the knowledge, wouldn't be surprised if ya even aware of it and was more focused on keeping it interesting instead of dredging the pacing down with technical crap.

    • @DiogoAzambuja

Valve "killed" the steam link because there was no point in having dedicated hardware for it, since it can be done in a simple app (Steam Link App or Moonlight) in another company's device like a Chromecast or FireStick

    • @LugiThePainDrinker

Valve makes games, any time they try with hardware, some few idiots purchase it and a year or two later, a much cheaper and user friendly option releases. Imagine wasting so much money on Valve index or Steam Deck and then all the competitor’s completely oversell and outshine. There’s a reason most VR users use a Quest 2 and now with all the portable PCs, the Steam Deck will fall behind and be forgotten.

Realizing how to activate FSR has been a lifesaver in docked mode for a few titles like Elden Ring and Monster Hunter world. It's not perfect, but you can get something that looks a lot closer to 1080p from titles like that and still running at a decent framerate due to setting the resolution to something like 720p or lower. Hopefully in the future they can implement some way to have community settings for all of this stuff (similar to the controller inputs) to help maximize performance without you personally having to play around with it all yourself on every game. Even as a PC gamer I find the fiddling to be a bit much as is.

It really is surreal watching Steam Deck Videos on a Steam Docked Steam Deck.
My view is that with the issues you have, you only ever have to have them the one time. once you get it working how you want it to, it's perfect. The Linux & Steam Deck forums are super helpful too. I love this thing so so much, but then again i am also saying this as someone who is upgrading from a 2012 MacBook Pro.
I could only play around 10% of my game library before. Now almost everything works even if a few tweaks are needed here and there.
The Mac also gave me a LOT of experience with Wine.

I dont have a steam deck but when I want to blow up a game on my TV from my PC I use my Chromecast with Google TV. I pair a controller, download the steam link app and stream from my desktop. Alternatively, if you wanted to use that Dock you got for the steamdeck, I bet that it, or some other dock like it, could plug into any newer mid/high end Android phone. Use the steam link app on the phone and stream away from your desktop/laptop. Of course this only works for someone with a gaming desktop/laptop to begin with so your mileage may vary.

Imagine if you had a CFWd device that you mainly use for homebrew, and your standard device used for playing games, they can now link your usage of a CFW device because its been used in the same network.

The basic one does compare in price to a Switch with the same size memory too.
It's a nice thing. They really couldn't make it any cheaper I wouldn't think. On the bright side games on PC are way cheaper than Switch games so if you buy a lot of games you will save the money you would spend easily

I mean, you can stream games to your tv with basically Steam Link app, if your tv supports it. Works really well.

The steam deck has been one of the best purchases for me in a long time. It's so good I ended up selling my switch. Why? Cause my deck can play everything including switch games and the switch games that I do care to play run fine on the deck. Also, I don't have to deal with Nintendo anymore.

I just finished God of War with my Steam deck. Smooth, smooth gameplay at 40fps. I can't wait to play Ragnarok if it ever gets released on Steam. 40fps is the new 60fps.

There is a way to fix the resolution in steam docking mode but you have to go to desktop settings and change the resolution that way, but it should fix your problem. At least, that's how I fixed mine!

I play my steam deck portably. I have a beefy PC for most of my power-hungry games. I haven't really touched my Switch in a while but once I Pokemon is out, I'll have more reasons to get back to it. The dock is neat and I'll probably get one so I can play PC games in my bedroom.

I have a PC dedicated to my tv so instead of docking I just take advantage of steams cloud saves and use my dedicated tv PC for a super duper switch pro experience. I love my deck and some games are great docked on it like emulation but the PC is the big brain move.

Steam Deck is an 800P system. IT can do amazing things at that resolution and play most games at a pretty high level AT THAT RES. just because it supports 4K doesn't mean you should push it that high. The dock should bed used for indi titles, older AAA and emulation and only at 1080P or bellow that in my opinion. Any higher than that defeats the purpose of Steam deck.....

So I discovered something pretty sick with my odin pro. I got to thinking what would happen if I got a USB c to hdmi converter and just plugged it in. Ya know what, it just worked! You can use the odin itself as a controller, no need to mess with anything. I paired that with a simple port hub and found a way to charge the odin while it's linked to the TV.

It wouldn't be a pro model for switch because a pro model would increase the frame rate and resolution and the steam deck runs it the exact same as a switch although for 3rd party games that is true!

The steam deck isn't perfect and is a work in progress. It is always improving with protons. With that said it isn't for everyone. You have to be ok with learning and troubleshooting. However, if you are willing to put in the time the community is always willing to help. We aren't elitest. And in terms of stuff getting improved to put this in perspective. People where changing the boot animation on the deck, valve sees this, and makes changing the boot animation EASIER in a patch less than a month later. Then a week after that some doof put the ENTIRE sherk moving as his boot animation and had issues because he has to watch a 2 hour movie before his deck will load. Valve sees this on reddit and in like a week they pushed a patch that allows you to skip boot animations. This is a company that cares about user experience and isn't going to put stuff in the way on purpose. The deck will get better and thats the best part. You buy it for what it has, but the future is still bright.

  • @piitii8348

About the Steam Link, I really wish people would let that narrative die.
First, they didn't stop supporting it. We have one that we bought second hand it kept getting updates. The last update was in december 2021, even though the devices were discontinued in 2018.
Second, they just realized everyone has a smart tv now and they developed a Steam Link app that everyone can download FOR FREE.
So they support their old hardware for years while giving everyone that didn't buy it the same options for free. How is that not supporting something?
I just don't get it. Do people want them to keep creating e-waste even though they've made a software based alternative that works just as good (or even better, in my experience)?
