    For those who have enjoyed this video over the years, my wargaming club started a channel with the best historical wargaming videos out there. They are much more highly produced than this one, which we used as inspiration. Stop by at Little Wars TV, or www.LittleWarsTV.com!

    Truly amazing battle report. This is possibly the best I've ever seen. The camera work, sound quality, narrative, graphics, and insights are all top notch. Well done. I hope to see many more of these in the future.

    I really love the format of this batrep. The narrative, the interviews with the commanders, the overviews, more people should adopt this.

    Nicely done. It was terrific to be "let in" on what each side was thinking and how they tried to adjust. Good stuff!

    Really excellent video - thanks so much for uploading. The commentary, and insight into what the players were thinking, was excellent. I really enjoyed finding out what the rival commanders were planning as regards the battle.
    I bought "Altar of Freedom" a week back, and haev really enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to presenting a game at my local club using my Irregular 2mm ACW figures. The video you've uploaded will really help, enabling me to point my club mates in this direction for more information. Thanks again!!

    Excellent report. I think this approach (neutral commentary over general pictures plus the graphics showing the progression of the battle and the plans, coupled with brief interviews of the commanders) ought to be the template for the replay sections of your littlewars tv videos. Can't recommend the overview graphics enough to producing a comprehensible story of the battle.
    Well done.
    Cheers
    Andrew

    I disagree on the ref's "calling it" too soon. Both sides looked spent, and when two sides are spent in a protracted fight, the one that can stick it out just a little bit longer, wins.
    Shoulda continued this until one actually broke.

    • @aanler
      @aanler 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's not how the battles of the period tended to pan out. A spent army is an army full of tired soldiers with low ammunition. Pushing them on would be skirting catastrophe. It's why the Battle of Gettysburg concluded when it did. The ref made the right call in keeping with the attitude of the war up to this date in time.

    • @TheFirstFlip

      Thanks! Everything you listed is a type of "wargame," but there are differences in how those games are each played. We have another channel dedicated to wargaming, and one of the videos talks about this question: th-cam.com/video/eHgLWPjQ_M0/w-d-xo.html

    Hello, I do a vlog called Jon's D&D Vlog. In it we discuss Dungeons & Dragons. Recently I've been going over some of the history of the game. The creators of D&D, Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, were both very much into wargaming. Wargaming is where D&D came from. Before D&D, Gary Gygax and another man, Jeff Perrin wrote the rules for a wargame called Chainmail. To help illustrate how the game is played, I refer to your video above and I also show some of it. I hope you don't mind, but, your video is a good example of wargaming and most people who play D&D really have no idea what actual wargaming looks like. I give you full credit. I show the name of this page and I also show the URL where people can come and look at it if they so choose. I believe I am obeying all of the rules of "Fair Use." If you object, I guess I can change the video. I have not monetized my vlog and I have no plans to do so. I'm not making money from this. I'm just trying to educate people on the game. The title of my video where I use your footage is called "Jon's D&D Vlog - Chainmail - Part 1". I also plan to use some of it in another video that will be called "Jon's D&D Vlog - Chainmail - Part 2". Anyway, I hope you don't mind. Thank you.
